Female Singers

Shirley Manson and Debbie Harry go alright. They know how to maximise the strong points of their voice and are willing to try alternate forms of music/singing. Versatility is something I find to be a strong point for any vocalist.

tbh I don't listen to many female vocalists usually because they are pop crap. There are some who have done a massive injustice to their singing ability and thus I detest them even more.

Good choices!! As a person who loves some quite underground creepy shit, I have a distinct liking for the Andrew Sisters and Caro Emerald - both have similar styles.

Kat Bjelland from Babes in Toyland can warm my bed anyday. Same as Brode Dalle from the Distillers.

Strangely enough, I hate tattoos on women, but just this time I'll make an exception.

I remember many years ago telling a mate of mine that I thought this band called Arch Enemy were pretty good. He proceeded to tell me the lead singer was a chick and I simply couldn't believe him until one night after a thousand beers a film clip of theirs came on Rage and my jaw dropped.

I still find it very difficult to believe that someone who looks like that can make that noise.

Have you heard Moya Brennan (she's Enya's sister but don't let that put you off) or Mary Black? If you fancy Irish/Celtic music you might like them too...

Well I had Enya on my list so that wouldn't put me off lol ;-) I have heard a bit of Moya Brennan but not Mary Black so I'll look her up. Thanks for the tips.

Ooops. Missed that.

Check out Black's vocals on a song called Calico Train by Steve Martin and the steep canyon rangers.

Saw Brody Dalle last night opening for QOTSA & NIN (great concert by the way, sore neck and hangover at work today not so great though!), there's something about her dirty-sexy look and croaky-screechy voice that makes me all tingly.

The original chick from Nightwish was epic as f**k. The new one isn't too bad either, but nothing on the original. I don't mind Lana Del Rey in short bursts, she goes alright. La Rouge goes good in her mainstream songs, haven't listened outside of that.

Also like that one album by Lily Allen.

Shes just a star f**ker mate. She'd bail on Homme if she thought she could further her career by sucking someone elses dick. Its what she did to Tim from Rancid.
