Fifita to the ????

Gun is an overstatement, but when you look at the current 5/8's, he is definitely in the top range:

Clearly better than Reynolds (IMO):
Thurston
Carney
Maloney

Level with Reynolds:
Foran
Widdop
Sezer

Behind Reynolds:
Walker
Townsend
Hampton
Soward
Norman
Anasta
Campo
Dobson
Hoffman

Foran, Widdop and Campese are all better than Reynolds.

18 teams, 18 5/8's lining up on a weekly basis and there are 6 better than Reynolds, plus 2 or 3 who have only played a handful of games and could also be better than Reynolds.

I'd say that places him firmly in the average range.

Foran and Widdop are a mile better than Reynolds. Sezer will be a mile better. As will Walker. As will Hampton.

f**k, I didn't know we were ranking on potential, rather than actual performance.

As for Widdop, he was great for the Saints on the weekend, but he showed very little down at Melbourne when he wasn't been spoon fed by the big three. Jury is still out for mine as to how good he will be.

And as for Campo DkoR, if we were comparing Campo circa 2009, then I'd agree with you for sure, but the 2014 version of Campo is a shadow of the man that scored a Blues jersey.

You mustn't have watched many Melbourne Storm games over the past few years...

Foran, Widdop and Sezer are all much better 5/8s imo. Forans one of my favourite halves in the comp.

Reynold is a gun five-eighth. Whether or not people like him that's their decision. He always lifts the team, plays with his heart on his sleeve, and finds holes in the defense.

He's a good, enthusiastic player and hole-runner, but that doesn't make him a good five-eighth. The reason the Dogs went so well in 2012 was because they had Barba and the forwards (Graham, Tolman, Kasiano) doing the ball-playing. Their halves were average. Pretty much like Parramatta in 2009.

LOL Fifita has had what one good season and he's now getting $800k?

Did they not learn from the T-Rex deal?

James Graham is a better player and they could of signed him and still had money to spend on someone else.

Foran is at least on par with maloney and in my opinion much better. He's close to Carney and would likely have played Origin by now if he wasn't Kiwi. Widdop would also be close to Maloney and much more consistent at least.

Reynolds is a great team-player, ultra competitive and always wears his heart on his sleeve but that doesn't necessarily make him a gun 5/8

My thoughts exactly. This deal is beyond a joke. We could've bought a quality fullback and retained Graham with plenty of cash left over, instead of paying overs for someone who's going to do nothing but be another forward.

Honestly I have them both above Maloney. Foran would be the second half I picked after Cherry Evans if I could pick any to build a side around right now.

That's what makes some players so hard to rank. DCE and Foran make a great combination, but we've never had a great chance to see just how good either would be without the other ( both would excel without doubt).

Maloney is a bit the same. Has played 5/8 along side Cronk, Johnson and now Pearce - all good players.

Widdop has his chance to shine how he doesn't have Cronk to lean on. 2014 will be a big year for him.

And the above is the reason that I rate Reynolds a bit higher than most on here. He's always had pretty average halves partners, so he has had to do everything himself. Scores a few extra ticks from be cause it too, even if he acts like an out and out knob.

Reynolds is the definition of an average half as far as skill is concerned, the only thing just keeping him afloat above the middle of the pack is his heart and effort. If he didn't have such a great pack to play behind I think he would receive much less accolades around here.

The Bulldogs spine has been average for the last couple of years, apart from Barba.

Barba's attacking potential matched with the ball playing ability of the Dogs forwards is what has got them over the line.

Reynolds has basically been the link between the two.

Now that Barba is gone and that threat is removed, I think everyone will see that Reynolds is average at best.

Probably have to agree with this.

Fifita to fullback will help.

Cheers Doggies. Overpaid for Fifita and now rumour is we're getting Graham for half the price. Much better value.

I'm hearing Fifita to Souths is a done deal. Around 700k a year. It doesn't hurt our cap position because he just gets the money Sam was going to get.

If true I couldn't be happier. A like for like replacement plus a million bucks in our pocket.

Foran was selected for NZ two years before Cherry-Evans debuted.

And Id'd say Johnson and Pearce were both better for Maloney being there, rather than the other way round.
