Update on the figures.

Melbourne now 5/9 55% from 5/8 62%
Easts now 3/7 42% from 2/6 33%

Australian Rugby League now 15/33 45% from 14/32 43%
Australian Super League now 23/41 56% from 23/40 57%

I've made a few posts in the NRL Expansion forum in recent time with the main theme being having a Sydney representative team playing in the national competition fed from the existing Sydney teams whilst the Sydney teams play in the Sydney competition.

Player selection would be similar to the way the City team was selected to play against Country in the now de-funct fixture, the difference being they would be playing in the national competition against teams outside of Sydney.

I'm outward looking and believe people support their city, state, and national representative players and teams. We look inward to elevate those type of players and it works to have Townsville, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Canberra, Melbourne, Auckland... Sydney would work as well.

The opportunity became available in 1998 when the NRL formed and there were 20 teams which proved too many because of quality reasons.

There's a time for everything. The swell has grown and the wave is ridable. It has been for a while.

With that and having a look at the number of finals Sydney teams have won I would probably expect a Sydney representative team to be at the top of the Final Wins list.

The wins for Sydney teams as individuals appear to be fractured and there's a long waiting time whereas united they would probably be whole and frequent.

I say probably because with one team representing Sydney the door is open for players seeking higher reputation opportunities with teams outside of Sydney rather than settle for playing in a feeder team meaning the rest of the teams in the national competition can pick up those players and strengthen their own and it also opens the door for expansion into areas such as Adelaide and Perth.

We would have eight teams to start with... Townsville, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Canberra, Melbourne, Auckland, Sydney. Twenty one rounds, one home match, one away match, one match at a probable expansion area, maybe Adelaide and Perth.

Ideas. It's not a crime to think.

FWIW, Melbourne never played in SL and it was agreed by both ARL and SL that they would be added to the united competition given that both organisations were planning to bring in a Melbourne team.

Cheers firechild.

According to this source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_Storm the Storm were originally a Super League initiative, created in 1997 during the Super League War.

I am not a lawyer and nor is this law school and you are correct in your comment.

Energy harnessed and used in a positive way.

Not from Sydney then?

Did you ever support the Steelers?

Should I be worried about your questions?

I go for good sorts of the female gender whether they support the Saints or not.

I was a Steeler supporter and before their inclusion pre-1982 varied teams.

Saints of modern times are the new North Sydney Bears. Somehow there was a transference of black swan events from the Bears to the Saints... snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. There are infinite ways to lose and Saints are going through them all. Modern day rugby league, and for that matter sport, because of the power of money and betting on sport is like a casino and the casino always has the edge. Winning 1 final from the last 6 appearances says so :-(

So you've supported quite a few teams in your time?

How common do you think that is amongst Sydneysiders?

You've got to realise Illawarra didn't have a team pre-1982 and with no connection it was impossible to get attached to one team though most of my friends supported Saints, Manly, Souths, Balmain. Don't ask why because that's the way it was. I can't say it was because my father supported a team like most kids vote for the party their parents vote for.

Players move around so why not fans especially if they don't have a local team.

Answering your question I'd say the hardcore fans in Sydney have supported one team most of the time because they have a local team.

No, 2 from 6. As you'd well know as a historian of the game, Theo, 2007 and 2009 GFs were not won by Melbourne. They were won by no one. Melbourne might've had the highest score in both but they sure as f**k did not win.

So 2 from 6 shows that for all Bellamy's greatness, and given the consistency of getting Melbourne to the GF and finals in non cheating years, he's actually not as great as he's cracked up to be. Couldn't win a meat raffle with NSW either.

Maybe emotional bondage but I've never received financial payments.

And I don't like to pay to get sick.

The fact that it's a paid job for a player should indicate the clearly different headspace between a fan and a player.

I can understand your frustration Penrose Warrior.

In an earlier post on page one of this thread I wrote,

"When it's all said and done, the betting money won or lost, merchandise sales, parties, and the winning feel, and the Official DVD of the matches still exist. They are matches a Storm supporter can watch on replay and enjoy. Though I don't know why the losing team wasn't elevated to win status as they do when there's a disqualification in the Olympics. Maybe it's because it also denied teams who Melbourne beat along the way the opportunity of making the final. I don't know."

as my reason.

Haha, I'm not frustrated. None of the GFs were against my side.

Melbourne won their GFs on the day but they've since been expunged. Those days, in fact those years thanks very much Melbourne, do not exist basically. So it's 2 out of 6 for Bellyache.
