Finals Week 1

The NRL has first rights at ANZ stadium during the finals period. I confirmed as such with the NRL after the bulldogs debacle and it became apparent that there were potential clashes coming up in our Round 26 and week 1 of the finals.

So should there be any clashes, it will be the AFL's problem to find another ground to play at

Good to hear.

So if one year souths, dogs, Parra and Penrith finish 1 2 5 6 and the swans get a home game in their 2nd week of finals, they are effectively f**ked.

i thought as much. from memory, the AFL had to yield last year when they ideally wanted to schedule the Sydney/Collingwood PF last year on Saturday night, but couldn't because the NRL scheduled the Souths/Canterbury prelim.

AFL had switched their prelims around so swans played friday at OPS, and minor premiers Hawthorn had to play their prelim on saturday effectively giving the 3rd placed swans an extra day advantage for the GF over the team that came first in the regular season.

lucky for them, they've got the SCG as back-up, albeit under renovation. the AFL is all about the cash and they'd be dirty if a possible match-up against a big drawing Vic club such as Collingwood or Essendon were to be limited to 30-40k attendance.

the AFL will have booked out ANZ for a potential Swans semi-final, so looks like the NRL will have to move games to Redfern or Belmore.

:lol::lol::lol:

sure
the Fumbles n Bumbles found out last year who the big dog is at ANZ

&
its players don't wear singlets or shorts 4 sizes too small champ

Well this is now a certainty, so how do we think it will all work? The spanner in the works is the likelihood of the Swans hosting a match on the Saturday at ANZ. Apparently it has to be Saturday due to 5/8 playing on the Sunday and the AFL guarantees a minimum of 6 days break.

I know some people get a bit cranky on here at mention of the AFL but it is up to ANZ stadium and I can’t see them giving the match up. Unfortunately it eliminates the idea of a double header at ANZ which I think would have been good.

In any event, I don’t think the NRL would complain about a Friday night and Sunday match at ANZ, in fact that is probably the best result for crowds. The problem is, what do we do about the other 2 which are set for the SFS. I read an article earlier today saying that a double header at the SFS is a possibility, for me that is madness. The roosters are likely to get 25k plus against either Melbourne or manly, Cronulla would surely get at least 15k.

So it looks like the only options are to have a day game at SFS on the Saturday (3PM) and then a 8PM game that night which should give Stadium management enough time to do whatever they have to or move the sharks game to shark park. I wouldn’t mind if that happened but I can understand Manly fans being upset as they won’t be afforded the same luxury for their home semi in week 2/3

If the AFL really have the right to ANZ on Saturday, I'd like to see:

Fri - Souths @ ANZ
Sat - Sharks @ Remondis
Sat - Roosters @ Allianz
Sun - Bulldogs @ ANZ

The Sharks are likely to be playing an out of Sydney team so probably wouldn't draw much more than the 20k they'd get in Cronulla.

I'm more interested at getting a look at the ticket prices. If they are anything like the Grand Final then it'll be 300% or more on the cost of last years finals tickets and they'll be lucky to get 20,000 to some of these games. Surely they won't try to jack the price up on the finals series? They traditionally haven't been sell out matches like the GF, I'm not sure that people will come forward with the cash they way they did for the Grand Final.

Any team playing in Round 26 next week on Sunday won't be playing on Friday Night week One of the finals. This effects Manly, Sharks and possibly Newcastle.

Im in sydney the week of the finals for a wedding.

Fingers crossed NQ get a friday or sunday game down there should god deem us worthy to make the finals. The groom is a massive dogs fan, there is potential both NQ and Canterbury could face off week 1.......... We have both discussed sneaking off for a few hours during the reception to go to the game should it be played on a saturday night........... Nothing like starting a marriage up on the wrong foot ;-)

It would be great to get a true home ground advantage but I can't see the NRL changing their rules.
They'll probably make us play @ parramatta stadium.

Souffs, Roosters & Bulldogs are playing at there home ground in week 1 & if it does not work out because of the AFL then of course the Sharks should play at Remondis!

Sharkies should be at Remondis. It's a big enough stadium for a Week 1 semi given the lack of alternatives.
