I still think our pack can't be any worse than what we had last year, it's amazing how much these young kids may improve if they know they have a chance of cracking first grade. Because they knew they were no hope last season :?

Good pickup Belly,

It seems to me that the better skilled and aggressive players in our juniors are the lighter guys in the squad. That may just be a false impression I have, but I fear it is close to true.

Heaven help us if those lighter guys end up like B.Slater or C.Smith. :sarcasm:

Sooo... someone help me out here?

I count 12 'new faces' for the first grade squad.

It's a 25 man squad?

Does that mean only 13 guys are returning to the top 25 - OR are we saying that this is the first grade 'train on squad' and those 12 are joining the other 21 (I think that's the number) who are returning?

Help me?!?

First Grade Squad doesn't always mean top 25.

These also look to be the players Registration shots, so if any of them need to be called up they can be NRL registered and put them up on the big screen, stuff like that.

We had a 35 man squad last year and in previous years. The Top 25 and 10 or so outside that top tier. We just didn't use them.

The Top 25 players is what comes under the salary cap.

As a guide this would be the first grade squad. 31 players plus three missing in Hayne, Inu and Galuvao.

Go into the above link, select Rugby League from their list and go into 2009 head and shoulder portraits.

G'day Colonel, I've been having a look at that site and there are some great pics on there that i will probably buy, are there any other sites you know of that have photos for sale like this one?

Slightly off topic i know... sorry!

Cheers!

TBH though - we have not done much in the player market and whilst the boys in NSW Cup had a great year... we have lost Piggy, Chad, Wags has retired and someone else i think. Whilst the Wenty team had an abundance of back rowers :) we will need a few of them to stand up in 09. I am hoping Matt Keating has another good year. Didn't that Robson fella captain Manly last year (though i remember him coming off the bench in the semi; i think) - not sure if he will replace Maloney who was tremendous. Give the kids a chance though. I like Jono Wright too - he can find the tryline.

Jeff Robson left us to join Manly and is returning after a couple of years there. I couldnt see him cracking a first grade spot. TBH

My pick is that either Nicols or Richardson will sneak into the first side in the first month or two of the season.
Both very highly rated and may take the place of Benny Smith.
