But there's arguements both ways, that's just why I prefer the current Grand Final system.

James.

The finals system generates tension, which, I agree, makes for an exciting denouement to the season. It's artifcially generated though, and merely nods at the concept of the "best team".

I'm not so much as advocating change, as merely grumbling about the process where (in 1995 at any rate) a substantially superior performing team can lose a seasons work in one game.

And though Manly didn't run through the comp in 1997 as easily as 95, the "stealing" occurred in the last 5 minutes of 6 month season. Particulary galling as Newcastle had been dealt with a mere 2 weeks before hand, and yet still got another chance to win.

But if we don't have a finals series, teams that lose a lot of players to rep duties are disadvantaged i.e Broncos, Roosters.

Bring back the top 5. At least that way we know 5 of the best teams all year will win

Immortal, I am with you on that one.

For once the League and the TV ratings should take a back seat when it comes to making more bucks and let a competition be decided by those that deserve to be at the right end of the ladder come september.

None of this crap about the top eight. If you are not good enough to finish in the top five then you should be on the bus to your end of season trip, simple as that.

Why get rewarded for half a season of trying.

The top eight was only introduced to increase the coffers of the RL and the ratings for you know who. It is the same as our working mans games sunday night grand finals.

C'mon all us lemmings, lets jump off the cliff.

Cheers
Quigs.

Yep top 5 is the way to go for sure. Making the finals when your not even in the top half of the teams is crap IMO

Top five for me with a lot more emphasis on first past the post at the completion of the rounds.

You get to No 1 for your work through the season... There should be a lot more made on it and far greater reward for achieving it.

He has "skewed" a lot of things in his illustrious career.

Old Hop will only be remembered for one thing when he finally hangs up his boots. "And it ain't rugby league skills"

I remember 1995 well,Chris Anderson and the Bulldogs emerged from internal turmoil to some how win another premiership [sounds familar?].Also amazingly inspired common ground amidst the SL/ARL drama of everyone's hatred of Manly.
