"In Sydney and Brisbane, the NRL will air on Nine, leaving the Nine networks wedding coverage to be seen on GEM only."
The current anti-siphoning laws mean they can't legally show it on Gem instead of their main channel even if they wanted to. They can simulcast on a digital multi-channel but they still have to show it on their main channel. Not Nine's fault this one, it's the law.So, instead of taking the opportunity to broadcast the NRL in HD on Gem, they will keep it on SD on Nine, and possibly show the royal wedding in HD

Royal Wedding: William & Kate in HD on GEM
Nine have confirmed, that the nationwide coverage of the Royal Wedding on GEM will in fact be in HD.
As a result, Nine will be the only free to air broadcaster to air the event in HD.
The wedding will be live on GEM in all markets, as well as live on Nine in those markets not airing Friday night NRL on Nine
HD coverage of the Royal Wedding will also be available on UK TV HD for Pay TV subscribers that have the appropriate package.
Closer to the date, we will post a comprehensive summary of Royal Wedding programming as well as where to go to avoid it.
Football was always going to take a backseat to this and so it should. Besides, it will be nice to see a culturally significant event on the television. If you want to watch football when it's on then go to the game. Or if you can't get to a game then go out to dinner with your family, go to the theatre, a concert or something. Pretty easy huh?
What a ridiculous poll.. What did you expect the outcome would be posted on a Footy mad site... Sheesh
I don't know how many people heard it or saw the graphic for it, but Ch9 last night confirmed the following coverage for next Friday :
8:30pm - 10:30pm ( NSW & QLD ) Brisbane v Canterbury
10:30pm - 12:30am Souths v Cronulla
From 7:30pm - 8:30pm is some sort of wedding coverage.....
Because of this, the Fox Sports replays are :
11pm - 12:30am Brisbane v Canterbury
12:30am - 2am Souths v Cronulla
