Warriors coach Stephen Kearney has responded to criticism over the withdrawal of captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck for last night's game against the Melbourne Storm.

The reigning Dally M medallist was removed from the line up on Wednesday night due to a hamstring injury. The injury was reported by media on Tuesday morning, only to be denied by Kearney that afternoon when questioned about the situation by Radio Sport.

However, following the Warriors 13-12 loss to Melbourne last night, Kearney admitted his star fullback did report "a little bit of tightness" in the muscle after training on Monday.

"We trained on Monday and he completed training. He had a little bit of tightness but nothing too serious," Kearney said.
"That's the platform of social media, I don't know how it got out. He was adamant that he was okay then at the captain's run didn't pull up so well and we just didn't want to take the risk.

"But there were no shenanigans on our part. If you ask Roger, he was adamant that he was going to play."

Tuivasa-Sheck was one of three late withdrawals for the Warriors along with halfback Blake Green (groin) and centre Solomone Kata (compassionate grounds), while star winger David Fusitu'a was already sidelined with a rib injury.

But the circumstances around Tuivasa-Sheck's withdrawal after the idea initially being quashed by Kearney came under heavy criticism.

Kearney insisted there was never any intention to deliberately mislead the interested parties, and said Tuivasa-Sheck was always expected to play until after the Wednesday captain's run session.

Eh, who cares. It's professional sport. The media always sook when teams don't tell them the truth. The Warriors didn't break any team naming regulations.

It was a great effort last night, but there were still some glaring coaching errors imo

One prop on the bench was ridiculous, and at the end of the game when metres were needed, the bigs were too stuffed to make them

Also when experience was needed in the dying stages of the game with the scores tight, Isaac Luke was sitting on the bench, leaving it to Roache, CHT and Harris to come up with the play

2 way street. Teams like to use media when its for their benefit. The least we can expect is not to be treated with contempt.
Cameron George is trying to get bums on seats. If the interviewers are going to be lied to all the time, what message is being sent to Jo Public about the team they support?

Great effort last night but you have to feel despite being cheated Kearney still made selection mistakes.

First of all some praise.

  • Playing Herbert payed off big time. He improved the team and owned the state of origin center.

Even better is the fact Herbert is not our best reserve grade center on form. That is Adam Pompey.

  • Also giving Perham game time. Brilliant. He is going to be a gun this kid.

Now to the bad.

We were getting mowed down in the last 10 mins. We were desperate for one or two big boppers.

  • Satae should have been on the bench.
  • Blair is not contributing to offence. 1 run for 13m over 80 mins is possible the worst ever stat by an NRL forward.

That was a McFadden-ism as well, doing things that no other side in the comp is doing - ala three hookers, 1 prop on bench, using guys for 8 minutes total off the bench etc.

Just copy the guys you worked under Kearney, for f**k's sake. What was the point of working under them otherwise?

Was looking on Fox Sports Stats, absolutely blown away by some of our stats being as strong as they are.

1st in the league for line breaks, 4th for metres gained, 5th for tries, 4th for all runs, 1st on tackle breaks, 1st on offloads, 11th on errors.

But then you look at..

2nd most points conceded, 2nd most run metres conceded, 1st in tackles made, 1st in tackles missed.

Maybe we shouldn't sweat Blair's run metres too much...

Flip side of those 'good's?

Why haven't we seen anyone but Kata in that spot until now? And if it wasn't for personal concerns or whatever, we still wouldn't have seen it. And I expect Kata will walk straight back into the side... anyone care to disagree?

Hayze probably should have started, too.

That last 10 minutes was disgusting... but not really because we were down a prop. The Storm just didn't get refereed the same. Several times they had multiple players blatantly offside - like, several metres - and nothing. More crucial (and in just about every effing tackle) they were allowed to lay on players and make second efforts without repercussion. We got penalised for doing half of what they got away with.

Blair is only halfway decent in these sorts of games... made a few good plays on defence.

I suggest our line break and run metres stats are down to RTS and Ken. They are smashing out near 400m a week between them and always break multiple tackles or beat men.

If Kata somehow gets back in over Herbert next week then I hope we at least have some people in the media that will actually take Kearney to task over it. If that happens then we need somebody to put the pressure on him and demand something more than a bullshit flog it off answer. He gets off lightly hiding in the media here compared to what he'd face in Sydney or Brisbane, as does the rest of the team.

But on the RTS thing, it's pretty low down my list of Kearney concerns, I'm really not bothered by it.

The main part of his game is without the ball. It makes up 50% of the game. I don't really have a big problem with the lack of attacking output. Yes, it would be nice if he did more, but it isn't really what he is good at. It's like saying Glenn McGrath was shit because he couldn't score runs.

Pay cut.

If Shaun Johnson was getting a pay cut for no longer making breaks then Adam Blair certainly should get a pay cut for doing half of his job. 800k for that?? Oh hell no.

I really don't see the comparison.

For 800k, much more than 13 metres in a game is expected, regardless of how many tackles he makes.

That said, it's not his fault that the Warriors blew their f**king wad on him. Can't blame the bloke for accepting an offer to make him hugely overpaid.
