Mooks stays on in 2019 regardless, even if he's currently at a 25% winning ratio. We'll see what happens after that.

Cleary might be gone from Penrith, I can see the stars aligning for 2020! What other options apart from Cleary? Toovey?

We may even turn this season around, we're only a third of the way into it.

I'll admit, I'm just a bit dazed and confused with all things Warriors at the moment. My safe-space is NSW Cup, see you there!

The press conference was typically insipid uninspiring stuff. That said it’s the same every week and I think he just goes in there to protect the players and give nothing away. To his own detriment.

The interesting part is he says the Knights came there with more intent. But that’s a fairly familiar story. The question is why? Why aren’t they motivated? I mean Christ, they’re nearly last (if not last now), they should have gained some confidence from last week but should have had a chip on their should with how it ended. They’re in front of their home crowd. And then to me as much as it’s a club game, 90% of these blokes are locals playing for the team they grew up aspiring to play for. So what gives? Why do our lads not turn up with the same intent?

To me I think it’s more we lack fundamentals in key positions. For example, Leeson and Agnatius to me are really good off the bench to create an impact. But starting, they have nothing. We played a winger who is as slow as a snail, poor in the air, and has no power or skill. We have a centre who can’t tackle. We have a halfback who can’t run. We have always relied on our back three to create momentum get with Roger probably not 100 per cent it’s fairly easy to gang up on Ken. Our props are being run over and therefore we lose the ruck. It’s just a poorly balanced squad. That’s on Kearney and Smith. Forget signing blokes for their nationalities. Because there’s an abundance of kiwis in this team and they don’t give two shits about the jumper. In fact in some cases the Australians seem to care more about representing the region. You need to get the right players for the balance of the squad.

Every time during a match when they pan up to the coaching box and I see Kearney and Iro sitting there, I just can’t see or imagine how those 2 inspire or motivate a team. You’re correct in the fact the other team shouldn’t be wanting it more, and also as worrying that after saying that for so many weeks there is pretty much zero accountability, unless you are a rookie 6, then you get your papers stamped

I remember the first year, a lot of the talk was “this isn’t his squad”, right now in then 3rd year we have the squad he created and the buck stops on him with that. Forwards and halves are a problem, Nikorima helps that a touch in the halves, my worry in that area in pre season was Green has never been a leader of a team, he has been a support player to the main act alongside Cronk, DCE and Johnson, and I don’t feel he has that ability to step up and dominate a game

It astounds me that it has been so many years since the warriors had a line breaking, hard running forward, I can’t think who the last one would be. Too much of a muchness in that forward pack

The use of the bench has been extremely poor, but at least that improved today and Luke had meaningful minutes at the end.

A bit of talk about Toovey, your blokes would kill the little bugger, could see him leaving the coaches box on a stretcher lol

I’m completely baffled by our team tbh.

I assume Brian Smith as head of football talks to Kearney to understand what his game plan is. To me it seems a very simple (perhaps overly simple) gameplan. Back five take the first two to three carries. Then play one out through the middle and aim for an offload to create.

So why would you pay decent money for Adam Blair and Gerard Beale? Beale is particularly puzzling. He’s small. He’s not fast. He’s been a journeymen everywhere he’s went. But I doubt he came here for minimum coin. He was still under contract at Cronulla so chances are you only go for a release if you are going to get more.

I would have signed Peta Hiku as well only if we didn’t have a fullback. It’s been noted for several years that he can’t defend. But at the back his creativity and ability to hit a gap are goodish attributes.

So we signed Beale I assume for $300k, Hiku for day $250k, Blair for between 600 and 800. And yet Shaun Johnson was the problem for salary cap balance. Over 10% at least are on players that offer minimal value. In American sports they have a term called WAR, wins above replacement. All these lads would be negatives.

And then the front towers. We have a bunch of blokes who are good front runners when the going is good. But no real size to create the tailwind to get on the back of. Leeson was great at Saints taking the next carry after Vaughan or Graham. Who is he getting on the back of here? Afoa and Paasi are the same. They’ll run off the back fence if they sense blood in the water and skittled middles and be quite effective.

Cameron George did an interview that was posted here where he said he had faith with Kearney, Smith and POS. But I ask, what is the overarching strategy we are looking for here? I see other clubs hit the market and I can see why a new buy will add value. But with us it’s like how many Kiwi lads can we get. Wtf. Why is that important? I get they may come cheaper. But I can guarantee Blair for example has not.

There also seems to be an element of jobs for the boys. It’s noted Kearney has a strong relationship with Blair. And George had a prestanding relationship with Green. Is that really our strategy? Play off pre existing relationships and hope? I mean Christ Blair being on the coin he is on hasn’t done Kearney any friendly favours.

Lol last years performance was an aberration.

Kinda lucky that there are basically 13 shit teams in the comp this year.

Call the whole thing off and let the bunnies, chooks and storm play each other every weekend.

Clearly, you don't believe in the process.

Anyhow secretly inhouse Warriors never thought this would be their year.

Apparently, it's all about 2020.

That's the latest line being wheeled out at Penrose.

I loved the thinking he did outloud for the next practice session.
"What's today, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday we don't come back to practice till Wednesday...."

We can't dump him without a better replacement sign sealed and delivered.

That's the thing, down top players should have been pumped by 50 last week, lose by 1 after a dud call.

Stars back this week, should win this week, get done by 20+

The attitude/mental health of some of these players must be mind boggling.

Post match Belamy vs Kearney are near polar opposites.
So are their coaching results.

They are just awful to watch.
I can't believe they are paid so much for so little.
Surely under the Fair Trading Act the Warriors are entitled to 50% of their money back.
What is the one about a fool and his money?

1. There are two stars - Harris and RTS - not sure who these other stars are you referred to
2. Melbourne were appalling, and just lost to the Sharks reggies

I'm starting to think part of the problem is the coach is too loyal to his starting squad , where he wont drop players and give new ones a crack if they fall off form.
Unfortunately too many are seeing his loyalty as a bit of a free ride so might talk the talk but dish up more of the sub par performances week in week out.
Its sad to see a couple of them going out there every week doing the biz when the rest just don't seem to want to be involved, as a fan I now just sit there shake my head and laugh, no point in getting upset as it doesn't seem to bother many of the players.

Lol yeah.

It's so sad that we have to refer to Green as a star or key player.

At the Storm he was that 4th guy who filled in between Cronk, Smith, Slater and that doesn't even consider genuine stars they had outside the Big 3.

We're f**ked and I can't see Kearney being the answer.

Good point. Melbourne were *several* gears below their best, and that’s unusual at this part of the season.

They operate at 80% and they comfortably blow us away like the mediocre Knights just did.

2 from 8 with the easy part of the draw long gone, I’d say this season is cooked.

Hahaha interesting because you’re right re: Green and it hasn’t really occurred to me, plus it applies to many of our ‘big’ signings in recent years - mostly mediocrity and leftovers.

We failed to retain Johnson for .... Blair, Hiku, Beale and now Kodi? Really?

Our true real marquee signing was RTS, and before that probably Steve Price (arguably Hoffman and he clearly hated it here). Our recruitment is a joke.

Kearney probably the answer if the question is"who is the worst coach in the past 20 years in the NRL?"
