Gold... Not that there is anything wrong with that !
Definitely not, wouldn't be PC to say otherwise.:sarcasm:

The Ricky Stuart lets sign every player that's ever had a decent reputation GO!
His list management at the sharks was horrific, and im sorry no coach that inst completely high is paying over 400k for Folau. Frankly that would be on the proviso the cap went up a lot.
And that is probably the most the eels will pay - the talk in paper is 2.5 million over four years - I dare say a fair chunk of that would be third party deals. 400k per year under the cap would mean he would only need 200k in third part deals per year which shouldn't be to hard with his profile I would think.
In saying that with that type of money he better return to form quick and start scoring tries.
Also true. You can carry a poor defender on the wing, but a poor defensive centre is suicide.
I reckon the holdup MIGHT be that we're waiting for the NRL to give us dispensation in the 'marquee player' allowance. That is, we're trying to shuffle one player's deal out and Izzy's in. That's $100k more per season we can pay him which isn't a "cap hit". But only 3 blokes can receive it...
my understanding was that the third party deals were ok as long as they weren't sponsors directly involved with the club. So if for example the club asked pirtek to top up the deal with $300k then it would count under the cap because we are affiliated with pirtek so it isn't really a third party deal. But if maybe spag and folou's manager made a call to another organization that wasn't an eels sponsor and they agreed to top up the deal, then that would be ok as the $ would be coming from a *cough* genuine third party. But if we arrange those 3rd party deals, then they count as part of the salary cap....

I thought we could help out with arranging them but we cannot guarantee them - because if we do then it must count under the cap.
Also what Spiderdan said they can't be club sponsors
I think we have to guarantee those ones that we arrange? They only count under the cap if they fall through though?

Could be wrong but I thought I read something along those lines a while ago when the news did a piece taking about how Lockyer only took up about $200k of cap space despite being on around $700k.
That's my understanding too Spiderdan
Simply means that he can't appear in advertisements for that company in Eels attire/gear
Similar to what the players who do sideline/commentary for Fox do. If they were wearing a club logo or shirt their pay would go under the cap as fox is an NRL sponsor. If they are just wearing casual clothes/suit they are not representing the club, they are representing themselves - so no cap
What about money paid from other people or companies?
The basic guide is that if a player is receiving money from any person as a way of inducing him to play for the club, then that money will be included in the Salary Cap.
Income that a player earns from parties not related to his club is generally not included in the Salary Cap, however, the details of the agreement must be advised to the club by the player.
The club must then get approval for the agreement from the Salary Cap Auditor in order for the remuneration to be excluded.
In 2006, the NRL also introduced an allowance for players who enter into Third Party Agreements with club sponsors. In 2010, the top 10 players are allowed to earn up to a maximum extra $50,000 each from sponsorship leveraging but the total payments under these sponsorship leveraging agreements must not exceed $150,000 per club.
Third Party Agreements
Third party agreements are payments made by companies directly to players. There is no restriction on the amount a player can earn through third party agreements where he is being paid for his own intellectual property, without the need to employ club logos or names and where the company involved is neither a club sponsor nor are they acting on behalf of a club to secure the player?s services. An example of this is a player promoting a brand of clothing or somebody like Mark Taylor promoting air conditioners.
Many players do have third party agreements that are outside the salary cap. Currently there are about 90 players earning close to $3.5 million.
All third party agreements must be registered and approved beforehand. This is to ensure that they do not become a way for clubs or players to use sponsors or third parties to undermine the salary cap. There are provisions for club sponsors to enter into agreements with elite players and for details see the Marquee Player Allowance section.

I think that was the reason gasiner left - he resigned with the dragons which included several thirty party deals but they didn't pay and the club couldn't do anything about it - so he left to play union on France.

Perfect gift: Israel Folau's AFL training regime has built him into the perfect rugby league fullback. Source: The Daily Telegraph
ANY NRL coach will tell you that in the modern game you just can't pay $600,000-plus a season for a centre or a winger.
They simply don't touch the ball enough to justify taking up the biggest chunk of a club's salary cap.
Think Michael Jennings at Penrith and the fact the Panthers have struggled to offload their superstar centre to another club - or remember back to the complaints Souths fans had about Greg Inglis before Michael Maguire saw sense and moved his main man to fullback.
Which brings us to Israel Folau and what Ricky Stuart could be thinking as he crosses his fingers and toes and hopes for Folau's arrival at Parramatta.
Will Folau's return open the way for Stuart to do what he has been talking about for two years and make Jarryd Hayne a permanent five-eighth, which in turn opens the door for Folau to play fullback?
Given Stuart was the coach who initially stated Hayne was a five-eighth and not a fullback when he was in charge of NSW, you can guarantee he would have been considering Hayne's future even before Folau's name was raised a possible signing.
Now the likely move makes even more sense.
Right now everyone is debating if the last two years have been a waste of time for Folau and whether the change to his body shape will damage his NRL return.
But the other way of looking at it is this: In that two years Folau became better conditioned aerobically while learning to catch, kick and look for space - which can't hurt his rugby league in all, especially at fullback.
ISRAEL FOLAU'S CAREER TIMELIME When Folau left rugby league he weighed 104kg; now he's 97kg and his body fat trimmed from 7 per cent to 4 per cent.
So the more you look at it, the more it looks like this could be the AFL's $2 million gift to the Eels and rugby league.
The AFL invested so heavily in Folau, not simply because of his footballing ability but because of the off-field exposure it would bring in western Sydney.
That has now flipped and you can reasonably expect that AFL fans will switch on to see how Folau fares in his NRL return.
The other point is what Folau means in the battle for western Sydney. When Folau crossed to AFL his performance at the media conference was that of a shy man who had no confidence talking in front of the camera.
This week when he made his switch back it was a completely different man fronting a huge media contingent.
Folau spoke initially without notes then answered questions directly and honestly - and in probably the toughest moment of his career he still had the courage to look reporters in the eye and speak with confidence.
His return is an absolute win for rugby league.
Yes because the writer of the article obviously knows we will pay Folau 600K
What about when Hoppa comes?
