Everyone clapping in glee over this new cap will be the first ones to bitch if the overall standard of football drops because some of these background staff go and find alternate employment if theres a signifgant cash drop to their wage(Union, UK, whatever).

So what would there be to stop a player from seeing a goal licking coach or a wrestling coach 'in their own time'.
I reckon there'll be a lot of loopholes around this cap.

Its going to be great reading about all the pay cuts admin staff are taking and massive discounts corporate partners are offering on their goods for the privilege of working for the Broncos

I heard the Broncos football staff, were volunteers. As are the bulk of their players.
Nothing to see here.Next.

Andrew Gee was actually paying THEM, just to get experience. That's why he had all those bags of money

Damn it.All the time I thought it was just being charitable for the players (most with the a*se out of their pants and begging in the Malls).
Andrew Horse should be given an OBE.

This is the biggest load of rubbish. NRL want no NYC or Reserve grade to be aligned with NRL teams. Say St Marys wants to be Penrith's feeder team how will NRL stop them spending what they want on off field staff? NRL team can just fix them up under many ways

It won't happen. Just get moved elsewhere within the sport the real winners will be the new staff QLD and NSW Cup teams get

No doubt the Integrity unit funding will go up again another $2mill a year to monitor it!

Stillstruggle to see how it's gone from $450k a year to $3.2mill a year in a short space of time!

Yes and each club is being asked to fund $400k from the player salary cap to pay for the NRL IU

you go on about the football department cap like the NRL invented it and all the other professional sports competitions in the world are looking on going "well, I wonder how that will work out"...
Thats not how it happens. We are 15 years behind the NFL and 5 years behind the AFL. They already have these things in place because they have looked into it and realised that clubs have a tendency to spend money stupidly.

You want clubs to stop over-spending, let there be actual consequences for it.

Maybe they'd think twice about putting themselves into debt if the NRL let them wither and moved them to Perth instead of propping them up for 5+ years.

I'm pro-clubs having autonomy from the NRL and reasonable funding from the TV deal which they have earned. But they can't have that and then ask to be bailed out because they engaged in a futile 'arms race'.

Integrity Unit 'you've got 38 staff, how much is that really costing?'

Club, 'apart from the coach, assistant coach, they're all volunteers.'

What is overspending though? The Panthers paid for a $25m academy plan on moving into CRL. Does that now get stopped due to this stupid cap? If clubs can afford it let them go. RL is always trying to bring the level back for the basketcases

Clubs should spend their money on game day entertainment and advertisement rather than the football department. Cap football department at $5m.
