What is overspending though? The Panthers paid for a $25m academy plan on moving into CRL. Does that now get stopped due to this stupid cap? If clubs can afford it let them go. RL is always trying to bring the level back for the basketcases

Overspending is whatever it takes to flush the club down the toilet and require the NRL to bail them out.
If Broncos want a physio for every player on their staff and can afford to do so, who gives a f**k, let them.
Doesn't mean every other club has to go chasing them.

the Broncos are a good example of a club that talks out against expansion because the clubs bottom lines aren't strong enough.
I like to think Greenberg or whoever said "Ok, point taken. No expansion because you can't turn a profit....but we are bringing in a cap so you make a profit"
You can't hold the greater good of the code up for the sake of wrestling coaches.

The error here is giving a f**k what the Broncos think about expansion

Canterbury Leagues Club Group, will just employ a team of doctors, physio's, wrestling coaches..

Put them down as hospitality consultants.

In the real world though the clubs have shown they run the NRL. No NRL official who wants to stay around will go against the clubs on something like expansion.
All the NRL can do is sneakily try to bring in a cap so the clubs are forced into making a profit and 5 years from now hope they suddenly realise we can afford expansion.

You think the Broncos talk out against expansion because they're concerned about other clubs do you . . . crikey, I'm lost for words

It won't happen. Just get moved elsewhere within the sport the real winners will be the new staff QLD and NSW Cup teams get

Only for operations that have a shelf company like Penrith LC to manage the payment of other money. I expect there will be a boom in shelf companies

What's the NFL's non-player cap? Few hundred mil? Does it even exist?

Why the f**k would anyone ever attempt to compare the pissant game of RL in Australia, watched by next to no one, especially at Roosters home games, with that of a bohemoth such as the NFL???

One of the dumbest arguments anyone could make.

7 million - more than enough to spend on coaching staff and whatever the f**k they think they need to help players run hard and tackle hard. For christ sake, how much does an assistant coach get paid?

Get a pyhsio or two. Piss off all the hangers on and useless job titles. If players are being neglected because the wrestling coach can only be employed for an hour a week then tough luck.

Lol.

It was a response to someone else who compared us to the NFL implying they had a football cap.

But cool rant anyway

I suspect the nrl are just manouvering so that in a couple of years they can tell clubs you stand or fall on your own. End of day they can only do so much to wrap clubs in cotton wool and protect them from themselves. With a $13mill grant, $10mill salary cap and $7mill football cap there really is no more excuses for clubs.

Stupid cap??? Would you be happy with a comp of 6 teams?? Its designed to protect the clubs from themselves(although the sentiment of clubs standing on their own two feet is one that has merit but we are so far away from that).

Can they be protected from themselves? In uk if you go into administration you are relegated, here you are bailed out. Take a club like Souths, $20mill plus revenue $8mill salary cap yet still allegedly lost $2.9mill last year despite bigger nrl grant and advance payment and one of the biggest memberships.

Well they need protecting whilst the TV contract is linked to 8 games per week and no expansion/club relocation on the cards.

And thats the problem. Clubs know they will get bailed out if they get in financial stress by the NRL because of the 8 game commitment to the TV deal.

And there are no certainties the $$ in the next TV deal will be increased/the same. Maybe, just maybe the Greenberg led NRL is finally waking up to this and trying to get clubland in order??

So why punish those clubs that can spend that money? Tell all clubs there is no more NRL Money outside grants. They will spend what they can that way. With no NYC next year off field wages already will be cut as less coaches etc
