Not comparing Wayne to Griffin in terms of coaching, but age wise, Bennett was 60 when he won the comp with us. Griffin is 54, and Elliott 55.

Bennett at 70 still has Souths competing.

Griffin is on a 2 year deal. That's it. Let see what he can do.
Exactly, it’s not a huge ridiculous deal so let’s just give them a chance before writing them off before they have even stepped foot in the joint.

I feel happy and confident about our new coaching staff. I think it would be more advantageous to rid ourselves of some poor performing and overpaid players prior to pre-season training mainly because the coaching staff can start a fresh with the least resistance from the player squad.

Rather than spend a whole lot of time trying to correct bad habits, they could spend their energy improving skills and forming combinations. Less bad attitude and more willingness to learn and improve.

Yes- now we have to endure patronising comments from "funky"Fittler about the Dragons coaching team being "old school" and unlikely to move the Dragons up the ladder. Of course he's part of the Nine/SMH media cartel with Gus so you could expect little else.

Well "funky', in what "new school" universe were you operating when you left Zac Lomax out of your original train on squad? You've waxed lyrical about him being the "gifted one" and at the very least he would be the best of the back up goal kickers if Nathan Cleary went down- (I doubt that Moses would still be in the Blues run on plans- Keary and Pearce would be ahead of him)

But Tommy Turbo's injuries, which were common knowledge, IMO made Lomax a must for the train ons and in line for selection for the right centre position.

I understand that Lomax is now on stand by- whatever than means. I've always supported the Blues but I now find myself hoping that "old school" Bennett wipes the smug grin off funky's face.

I'm probably one of Lomax's biggest supporters, I think he's an absolute superstar in the making but I do see why Fittler left him out of the squad. He is not quite origin material yet for mine. He's not far off, probably a year or two max but origin players should be near flawless. I think he has origin like intensity already. Is a match winner already, but he has a few errors in him that he has to get rid of, plus the odd defensive slip up. In saying that a lot of the time when he makes defensive errors is more to do with the team being too compressed and him having to slide out and cover team mistakes which any decent opposition backs should ice. A lot of his errors are him competing for bombs which he is always the first one up there and often has success at. If he is doing this several times a game there is no way he is going to bag every one of them.

Yep.. he’s our top point scorer but also amongst our top (if not the top) error makers in the side..

Calm down mr negative, always highlighting his errors. How about comparing his errors from efforts ie: chasing and leaping high kicks etc. some errors like those one’s you can live with
Eh? Where am I always “highlighting his errors?”

It’s a simple fact that he does have a lot of errors in his game, hence why I was agreeing with Forbes that would be one of the main reasons he’s not ready for origin.

I am also a big fan of Lomax and have spoken about his potential to be our next Changa Langlands since his junior rep performances.

I'm sure Fittler also recognises his potential and has now included him in the squad for development and emergency purposes.

I have heard Fittler say that he rates Crichton as the best of the young crop this year in that every time he has come up against his opposition he has outdone them. I would agree with that. He also highly rates Lomax but was disappointed in that one game where he made a heap of unforced errors I think round 18-19, but was happy he come back hard.
He doesn’t actually make too many unforced errors, most of his errors are him contesting an attacking bomb which is always a lottery and pushing a pass in attack. Hopefully his pass selection improves with experience and our attack improves to the point that he can get some good clean ball instead of feeling the need to make stuff happen. I’m happy he has been contesting those mid field bombs though because practice makes perfect and he’s getting better round by round and it’s not a bad place to hand the ball over anyway so although the stats don’t look good it’s not detrimental to the team when he spills one there.

You know at the end of the day, Cronulla won 3 more games than Saints to make the eight. I personally think the top 8 rewards mediocrity, but just reflect on how many close games we lost to some basic fundamentals this year.

I’ve really got no grandiose predictions for next year, but a couple of decent forwards sign-ons and just an overall improvement in some of basics elements that win football games (particularly defence), plus a reduction in the ‘rocks and diamonds‘ type performances that many of our players regularly demonstrate .... could be interesting.

Inisai, i agree but we all know the club board would do a lap of honour by just making the 8 and saw this as their ultimate goal with no aperations to put things in place to make the 4 or even a GF appearence. I think that tree of thought has been well & truely shaken ( thank you Dragons Fans & Webby !!

Agree he is not first choice run on right centre material just yet but at the rate players are going down, he is definitely needed and should have been named with the train ons from the get go.

First part of the pointy end of the club is in place and the second part the players coming and possibly going is ongoing which is generally done quietly by the club and the delay due to a new head coach.

As Elliott has said.

“We have to create an environment for them to play their best footy,” “Then we need to give them systems of preparation to elevate that"

Also, the club has chosen an experienced coach, I feel that it's a message to the players that they haven't received much support.

Who gives a shit about the age of the coaching staff?

Hook, Elliot and Gentle have a whole wealth of experience to bring to the table and what they can offer will be 1000000000 times better than any of the coaching staff we've had since Bennett.

If you think young people make better coaches go and support the Cowboys for the next couple of years and let me know how that pans out for you.

This forum has a wide range of ages on it and no one likes to read ageist type comments.

Agree Mjab.

After watching Mary as coach, all I'm hoping for is that the club can sign players that can lift us off the bottom of the table.

In a perverse way, I'd like to see how current playing group will perform under a experienced coaching team.
