Foran Is Coming

IIRC, there was a stat in a poll where 30 or so percent of players admitted suffering from depression. Should we ban them too? That would be discriminatory if he's barred due to illness. There are laws that expressly prohibit that. In terms of the allegations, they can't ban him without even a charge. They also really should await for an independent judicial process even if he is charged, otherwise they are causing prejudice firstly, and banning someone who under the nations law is innocent until proven guilty.

Just saw a Fox Sports News exert on NRL 360 discussing Foran and the Instagram statement.
Paul Kent claimed media had been good to him for a long time, he is calling the media, he is inviting the media, his ex girlfriend is putting statements on social media.
Hason is holding his own Press conference on his relationship with him and things they have gotten up to
Foran called Andrew Webster(SMH) on Thursday morning out of the blue, he didn't know his number, backgrounded his situation why he wanted to go to the Warriors.
He wouldn't print it unless he wanted to go on the record, which he did and gave 300 words of quotes.

Their summary was he is badly advised, not in a good state, ramblings and Webster thinks no chance he will play NRL next year.

Kent saying Foran is not in a good state. What is his basis to that? A few social media posts? Hardly the best person to be making those sort of statements.

In regards to Foran calling the media, I'm sure he is, with all the garbage that has been written about him in the last few months he surely has a right of reply and getting his side of things out there. I mean for god's sake some of the things that the "media" have run with have been nothing short of disgusting (re his kids etc).

End of the day, it is clear Foran still has a ways to go to get himself right, but he should be afforded the chance that so many other players have had in the past which is the ability to get back on the field and get into a team environment.

You can't let blokes that bash their Mrs, go to jail and commit repeated offences waltz back in but block Foran because he has had some personal dramas.

Looking at it now, was it a poor move from the Warriors to come out and announce his signing ?

The rumours were there anyway I guess, but now we have a situation where there is even more public interest as stories written about him for the next few months

If his head is such a mess, maybe he shouldn't have put himself in a situation like this and just taken the complete break for 12-18months as he indicated at the time, it seems that since making that statement, was only a couple of weeks before he was negotiating again

No.
I think it was a deliberate move to shift focus away from the end of another piss poor season.
have we heard anything about the review? No.
Smoke and mirrors.

There's so much foggy mist around this guy. Now Greenberg has said the contract isn't likely to be ratified any time soon, and apparently Foran's contract requires it to be done by December or it becomes void and he doesn't come.

The following article which was published in today's Sydney Morning Herald may clarify some of the issues for you -

NRL chief Todd Greenberg supports Kieran Foran return but 'only under right conditions'
by Chris Barret

NRL chief Todd Greenberg wants Kieran Foran to be back playing league again – but the chances of him being registered in time to take up a contract with New Zealand Warriors are remote.

The Manly premiership winner and former Parramatta captain hopes to re-start his career with the Warriors next season after signing a one-year contract.

However, a clause in the deal with the Auckland-based club, which is believed to require Foran to be cleared by the NRL's integrity unit by December, is almost certain to scupper those plans.

Warriors chief Jim Doyle is lobbying the NRL to green-light the 26-year-old's return before that deadline but Fairfax Media has learnt that is next to no chance of happening.

Greenberg said on Monday he was keen to have Foran back in the game but "only under the right conditions".

"I'm like everyone else. I want to see Kieran Foran back playing rugby league," Greenberg said. "But we have to ensure that we understand fully the issues that he's dealing with and our integrity unit will do that over the coming months.

"We need to be very careful on how we do that and it needs to be done appropriately so I'm not going to provide a running commentary throughout it. I'm a supporter of him playing football again but only under the right conditions."

The NRL would need to be satisfied about the merits of Foran's registration on a range of issues from his mental state to his links with controversial punter Eddie Hayson, who he continues to associate with.

The spectre of the NSW police strike force into claims of match-fixing in the game is also a factor.

If Foran's re-entry to the code is not ratified before the period set out in his Warriors contract, the deal would be rendered null and void.

Foran told Fairfax Media last week that he and his godfather Don Mackinnon, an Auckland lawyer, had made contact with the NRL integrity unit six weeks ago in an effort to get advice on what conditions he would have to meet to resume his career in the competition, vowing that he would cut ties with Hayson if and when told he had to.

He has strongly denied any involvement in match-fixing and on Sunday night took to social media to again reinforce his claims of innocence and hit out at the media for "prying into my personal life".

"I want to assure you, I have done nothing wrong," he posted on Instagram. "I took a break from the game because I felt I wasn't in the head space to uphold my commitments as a contracted footballer.

"I have been very open about my struggle with health issues and asked for time to concentrate on rebuilding my life. Every day I wake up with a positive outlook, but then I read my name in the headlines. This makes it very difficult to move forward with a positive mindset.

"All I have done, is gotten sick, admitted publicly to it and taken time out for myself. I just ask that I am given the time I need to heal in peace."

There's lots of places that one could be cynical here...

Obviously around Foran and his behaviour, but also now perhaps Greenberg, be convenient if this arrangement fell through and the Doggies swooped!

Guess I am just a cynical bastard...

I guess the sticking point on it all, is that to get his payout and release from the Eels, he said that he was in no fit state to play rugby league due to mental fragility

Within a month it seems that he is starting to work towards a new deal, which is a miraculous recovery from some very serious issues. Due to mental illness being stated as the prime cause, parramatta got out of paying a hell of a lot of money that they otherwise would have had counted on their salary cap. If within weeks he is saying again that he is ok, it starts to get a bit fishy

Is a delicate situation either way, there is the "you can't deny him because of it side" which is fair, but if they do allow it and he does off the rails again, the NRL get hammered for letting him back so quickly as well

If he does manage to play in round 1 next season it would be 9 and half months since he last played surely that's a long enough time for him to recoup. What's the difference between that and a year to 18 months? I think the worst thing we can do to him now is stop him from doing a thing he loves to do and if he feels he is ready now then they bloody should just let him carry on
Training would start in November.
And from what I hear pre-season training is pretty hard at most clubs, maybe not Warriors?

Most medications take 2 weeks to start to work and 4-8 weeks to fully kick in for depression and other mental health conditons most good doctors/ physiologist would try to get patient to remove the cause/s if possible. (Things you can control)

I haven't read a lot of articles or watched interviews about his situation if the truth is actually out or not.
But it may have been a combination of things that caused his issues and most seemed out of his control.
Obviously the family situation was not good and seemed the main driving force.
His injuries.
The pressure of captaincy.
The salary cap issues.
The board issues at the club.
His high pay packet comes with high expectations.

So stepping away take a lot of these off the table and you can feel a lot better reasonable quickly and if you have a good physiologist and can be taught processes to deal with situation as they arise.

But it is how he handles these things when he returns.
A few things he won't have to worry about at Warriors vs Eels, but his family situation won't change and potential for injuries.

Given Doyle's previous experience in the NRL administration do you really think he'd sign him if he wasn't 100% confident in getting him registered, or have a termination clause if he can't be registered due to some reason?
I was merely making comment about the likelihood of him being registered, which is still looking dicey as

After watching last night's game we won't come close to doing anything special unless our forwards step up big time.
And I'm not sure if our current stock is up to it?

I think you're right.
Not sure about our halves or backs either.
Coach yet to prove himself too.

You're right there, not much use having a superstar backline and popgun pack. Sharks have a beautiful balance, hardened forwards with X factor and skill amongst them, and a youthful backline that can do just about anything with a good platform

Our error rate is to high as well.
Foran and RTS add more options on attack than we had this year.
Top 8 hopefully.
Premiership if we can win 15 in a row!

Plenty of experience up front as well.
Lewis, Gallen and Ennis all in 250+ club.
Their only forward under 100games was Prior!

I dunno, for me it's about attitude. Yes, we're probably not going to smash many forward packs upfront, but if you look at our best 3 games of the year, against the Broncos, Sharks and Titans and it's the effort that put us in the contest in those games. If we're able to turn up for each other on D, which is what we kept doing during those games, then the points will come. We already have a star studded backline and with a fit Luke, RTS and Foran, I do think the points will come.
It's the mental side of things with the Warriors, always has been. Looking at us on paper, I think were as good as any other side. We get the attitude right and we'll be in the top 4.
