Fair point. Everyone praised his discipline and fitness, Titans could use him.

Yeah he would do ok for them but people are talking about him rebuilding Penrith and how he would be good for the titans.....hes never rebuilt a team and he certainly has never coached a team that was as shot as the gold coast. Penrith had been rebuilt when he arrived, sure he tweaked the squad a bit just like every new coach does at a new club, he didn't spend years getting rid of bad contracts and playing with journeymen on short term contracts because that's all we could afford.

He went on NRL 360 and claimed he rebuilt the whole club top to bottom. The bloke is a f**kwit

I think that statement didn’t come out in the right way and in hindsight I am sure he would probably back away from such an assertion otherwise I thought he was fairly dignified the way he conducted himself around his sacking.

Griffin has re-invented himself somewhat with his media work for which he has been earning really positive reviews.

Griffin was not the best appointment Gould could have made and was a mistake on his part but otherwise I always thought Griffin was a pretty decent sort of bloke even if he was a little dull.

No but I admit my bias and Frog went from not knowing about the topic to flat out refusal to believe in two comments.
Might have something to do with the source. Andrew Webster (an article penned right before the Panthers v Sharks final), NRL 360. Everyone knows they didn't get on. Griffin admitted mistakes (which Moylan never has, or Gus for that matter). But the coach is the boss. The coach tells the players what to do, not the other way around. And the fact remains Moylan's best footy of his entire career, and his Origin selection, were under this coach who used to push him. I don't know what's happening at the Sharks it seems a lot like he's being let run his own race since he doesn't like being told. If you read the forums Sharks fans don't seem too impressed. Maybe he just doesn't know what's good for him. Or maybe he's happy to just be an average first grader on elite money.

I haven’t really watched a lot of Moylan this season but have watched both of the Sharks two recent games against the Bulldogs and Bronco’s and Moylan has been very poor.

The Sharks fan’s are really giving him a hard time at present to the extent they apparently sarcastically cheered him when he caught a ball on the weekend.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion on Matt Moylan, but in my opinion Moylan let us down when we needed him. I don’t think he has the dedication, desire or mental strength to be a consistent top quality player and his current dire form doesn’t really surprise me. No doubt he will have good games here and there but not the consistency required for someone who is being paid good money whatever it may be. I can see the Sharks attempting to offload at least one of either Moylan, Johnson or Dugan before there contracts end in 2021.

How did he let us down?

Moylan hasn't commented on it at all as far as I know which is better than what we got from Griffin claiming to have rebuilt the club himself.

The junior structures, that's all. He did what Gus asked him to do. You are rewriting history.

Bullshit! Gus was filthy with him after that interview, he did an interview the next day to respond, I remember him addressing that claim of Hooks. Prove Gus asked him to rebuild the junior structures, between 2011 and 2016 our NYC team was already doing very well and won at least one premiership, Gus asked him to rebuild the juniors my ass, that's rewriting history just like Griffin claiming he rebuilt our juniors.

The idea that Gus needed Anthony Griffin to rebuild Penriths juniors is so f**king dumb I cannot believe anyone here actually ran with it. Gus can talk for hours and hours about Junior football he has written articles about junior development by NRL clubs and which club does it best, there wouldn't be many people in the world who have a better knowledge in general of junior rugby league and nrl pathways than Gould. But yeah five years after Penrith hired Gus he had to hire Griffin and ask him to rebuild the juniors that Gus told us he was rebuilding in 2012! Please.

Gus said it himself. He wanted what the Broncos had.

Anyway this has gone from being about Moylan and his fading form to being about Griffin, and there's a bit too much foaming at the mouth over the latter. Apart from making the club successful on-field, I don't know what he could possibly have done to some of you lot.

I'm defending against people attacking Moylan as a way to defend Griffin. It's not necessary and we have no way to know Moylan's side as he hasn't commented.

If you think I'm doing that, you are sadly mistaken. His form is poor. He doesn't look after himself. His career is on the slide. Nothing really to do with Griffin.

He said that in reference to the training facilities after he did a tour of sporting franchises around the world. It was nothing to do with junior pathways and I’m pretty certain it was a longtime before hook.

Mate you’re the one making up straight horseshit like Gus asked Griffin to rebuild the pathways, you’ve made no attempt to prove he said It so obviously made up. I will always defend the club against horseshit lies like that when I know it’s wrong, call it foaming at the mouth if you Like but making shit up is a much worse look.

Read that article from 2014 @Frog, Gus talking about the people and work done on rebuilding the club and specifically talks about the juniors and who rebuilt them. Griffin said last year that the juniors were a mess or a shambles(one of the two) when he got here in 2016, he straight up shitted on all the work Gus discusses on that article, that’s why I don’t like Hook. He took credit for other people’s work. I am gobsmacked a panthers fan would defend it.

Yea anyone who watched that 360 ep with Griffin knew it was pretty much 50/50 hit job on Penrith and job interview for Griffin, the public ate up the hit job but NRL Clubs would have seen right through Griffin.

Him taking credit for rebuilding the junior system completely was pathetic, pretty sure Gus said himself he got Griffin just to get juniors to step up into first grade, and considering it’s a badly kept secret he couldn’t work with anyone I doubt he made much improvements on the actual junior system itself while he was here.

Gus took all the credit too though to be fair

How did he let us down?

Leadership. He was our club captain, a senior member of the playing group, the person whom it was expected would lead by example, inspire his team mates, demonstrate the highest of personal commitment & passion, accountability & integrity.

In season 2017, immediately following his most successful season as a player, he was stood down early into the season for breaching team protocols (alcohol related), You can have your own views about how he responded to his being disciplined but clearly his relationship with coach Griffin deteriorated and there were further rumours around other issues with alcohol, his being disciplined for failing to comply with his injury management program and culminated in his being an absentee during our run into the finals and semi finals themselves. His absence was put down to his dealing with ‘personal issues’.

Maybe I expect too much, but I certainly expected more from Matt Moylan and I don’t shy away from expressing the opinion he let himself down, along with the club, his team mates and it’s fan’s in respect of what transpired in 2017 leading to his leaving the club.
