Can we take some time here to pour scorn on the affects of the grog.

Three footballers, two weeks from achieving their life's ambition, playing for one of the best clubs in Australia, piss the lot down the drain (perhaps).

Despite all the attempts to sanitise the stuff with the latest 'shhh' ads and the 'good form awards' it's the biggest single cause of heartache, pain, and shame on planet earth.

Ladies and gentlemen ... I give you the 'piss'.

While we warn young sportsman to be wary, we rake in millions of dollars for advertising beamed into households during prime time television, showing us that having a beer is the ultimate in life.

We've made it a part of our Australian culture, and we wonder why young men of all clubs are continually in strife.

U seddit Dazzat.

Alcoholism destroys families, fills our jails and ruins lives.

A couple of young blokes could have made some poor decisions that could potentially ruin their lives or the lives of their alleged victim.

It saddens me deeply.

I agree. Even if these blokes arent guilty they should have never been in any position for this to have come up. Especially at this time of year.

I dont have any inside info but i have a bad feeling that contracts will be terminated from this.

Something in the air.
One bloke at work sacked today because of booze apparently, another went home sick after an hour severely hung over, another crook as and as useful as a flyscreen on a sub....then tonite two kids punching on out front my joint, I find an empty bourbon bottle on the lawn...noticed the full moon at the same time.

If the code of conduct has been breached, even if the more serious allegations are thrown out, you can probably invest lefty with margin that this will likely be the case.

Despite the calibre of player rumoured to be involved, the integrity and reputation of the club and its standards come first and foremost.

It was interesting that on 7 and 9 news Hunt was the only one who answered questions (apart from the organised conference with Hannant). He freely admitted being out consuming alcohol and meeting some girls. To me, he didn't seem too concerned over the matter, so it's important not to hang anyone out to dry before we get the facts.

Maybe instead of blaming the alcohol you should take responcibility for yourself and control your drinking, or make the concious choice not to drink. The problem with people these days is that theyre too caught up in shifting the blame away from themselves that theyll never learn lessons.

I got in a fight at a bar, its the alcohols fault - its not just that im an asshole of a person.

I sexually assaulted someone, ill blame alcohol - its not just that im abusive

Im fat, ill blame fast food - no its not that i have no self control at all, advertising made me order a meal for 3.

I got busted drink driving, is it my fault for getting in my car? no, the alcohol made me do it.

Ive got lung cancer, i should sue the tobacco company that forsed me to buy cigarettes.

Strangely enough ive seen hundreds of ads for beer this season and i can count the number of beers ive had in my 25 years in this world on 1 hand.

Agree. Alcohol doesn't "make" someone into an arsehole. It just makes arseholes more likely to do stupid things.

Broncos' past has been hardline

By Wayne Heming
September 15, 2008http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,24350013-23214,00.html

JUST when the NRL thought its finals series would finally put the spotlight back on the field, the game of rugby league finds itself in damage control again.
With Greg Bird's alleged glassing incident tucked away until it comes up in court on October 8, NRL officials would have been looking to its finals series to restore its battered image.

But after a female lodged a formal complaint with police alleging she'd been sexually assaulted in the toilet of a Brisbane nightclub, rugby league again finds itself under public scrutiny.

The Broncos have shown they're not a club to tolerate player misbehaviour.

They've already sacked a number of offenders in the past.

From the time they showed habitual bad boy Julian O'Neill the door in 1995 after he allegedly urinated on the carpet while playing blackjack at Jupiter's Casino to last year's dismissals of utilities Ian Lacey and John Te Reo for repeated alcohol-related offences, they've adopted a firm stand.

Current Canberra forward Neville Costigan felt Brisbane's wrath in 2006 after driving his car to get a hamburger while still under the influence of alcohol.

Likewise Brett Seymour, currently playing for Cronulla, was punted for his involvement in a nightclub incident.

The sackings cost both players a share of the Broncos 2006 grand final win over Melbourne.

Under coach Wayne Bennett, the Broncos have adopted an almost zero tolerance to off-field trouble makers.

Despite concerns of a drinking culture developing, there hasn't been any alcohol restrictions placed on the players this year.

The question that must be asked is what were the players doing out drinking all day and well into the night knowing they would play a big finals match again next weekend?

Several players and their wives and partners got together for a social outing at the popular Story Bridge hotel on Saturday to celebrate their win the night before against the Roosters.

While most of them left the hotel around 5pm a few players stayed on drinking.

Management denied reports the players had been kicked out, saying they'd behaved while drinking at the hotel.

There were also reports of two Brisbane players abusing people on a taxi rank outside the Normanby hotel late on Saturday night.

Brisbane forward Ben Hannant, a mormon who doesn't drink, said there was no alcohol ban on the players.

"The senior players as a group decide what we do (after games)," he said as Brisbane closed up shop at training this morning.

"I still go out with the boys, hang out with them and have a good time with them," he said.

"It's something I chose, I just didn't like drinking ... imagine how fat I'd be if I did drink."

Brisbane declined to comment on the sexual assault allegations or on reports that up to four of its players were under police investigation.

A 24 year-old woman, who was formally interviewed by Queensland police over the weekend, has alleged she was sexually assaulted in the toilets of the Alhambra Lounge in inner-city Fortitude Valley on Saturday night.

A police spokeswoman confirmed she made a formal complaint on Monday morning.

Police also confirmed they were interviewing three men in relation to the woman's allegations.

"We have spoken to three men and out investigations are continuing," said the police spokesperson.

*Fair warning*

Cough all you like but there have a few breaches of the forum rules in this thread and I'd hate to see anyone suspended for making a dumb post.

To date, the Mods have simply been deleting posts which they deem to be defamatory or potentially so. And before anyone thinks they are being singled out, I can assure that there have been a number of offenders.

Its really simple, just stick to the reported media, and remember that everything is alleged and the presumption of innocence applies.

Cheers.
