To be fair the new ie is much better.

They should kill the ie brand though. It's just too badly damaged and a fresh name couldn't hurt.

Also: go Aang!

IE is their greatest failure but pretty much the only one imo

Their OS and Office group of products have and still are top notch

IE has historically dominated the internet and has had a long life. It was so important and dominant that it is the focus of the anti-trust suit that sought to break up MS.

Hardly a failure.

MS have had many, as should any innovative company. They are a fascinating study in business.

Their first moves into mobile didn't go so well. But they are hitting back with a vengeance. Their move into search/data farming with Bing will likely ride on the back of this. This could be at the cost of the dominance of Office. I'm sure they have a strategy.

Nah, he's right. It's a failure. Microsoft has said so themselves.

So much so that they entertained the thought of rebranding to get away from the connotations.

It is the software used for nearly every single corporate intranet and web/webform app out there. Part of nearly every corporate standard build as well as still having a massive share of all other browser users out there. From an historical perspective it's importance and dominance is even more pronounced.
