Furious Warriors sponsor launches attack

Meh. Again, I don't think he stepped back all that far. I don't think the Referees Union are walking away with this with their hands raised at the moment.
They’re a union, political theatre is their game. They’ll back off as long as they can save face to some degree.

That’s not correct. If the Match Officials were e to sue, it would be up to the sponsor to prove that he has proof that the MOs are cheating.
He isn't trying to prove it though.

It's the Match Officials that would have to prove it doesn't occur, IF they were to take him to court.

Not that I think they will.

Not my area, as a disclaimer, but I'm not sure either things are correct. If it went to any kind of proceedings it would be related to defamation. And you could determine whether the comments are defamatory without ever investigating whether they are specifically true or not.

Even if the subject of the comments was investigated or considered my understanding is it would only need to be enough to rule that the comments could reasonably be considered an honest opinion (for eg). So realistically it may be that nobody really has to prove anything in terms of whether the bias is real or not. As I understand it, if it's reasonable for a person in Paris' position to hold that opinion then that's the end of it.

Again, I could definitely be wrong. Even if the matter does investigate the claims though it won't be an investigation of those claims in isolation if that makes sense

The referees have encased themselves in such a bubble that they now believe that they are immune to criticism.

They’ve spent far too long sniffing their own farts.

Paris would only need to produce exhibit A (the Tohu taking a high shot right on the chin not penalised) and exhibit B (the tohu tackle in the first half that slipped up from the ball to the neck area, which was penalised) . Case closed.

You can argue about the finer points of law but realpolitik will determine this. Nobody is getting sued because it’ll be a bad look. The Warriors are untouchable because Paris doesn’t work for them. The NRL can’t sanction them because if they do it’ll basically confirm the allegations. And the refs will union will end up backing off for the same reason provided Paris backs his accusations off a bit (which he already has).

And then Exhibit C the slap in the Panthers game and Exhibit D Latrell striking Grant twice in the same ruck.

Case closed? If he wanted to prove there is inconsistency in refereeing. Doesn’t justify calling the referees and bunker cheats though.

Are tip sheets for the refs still a thing? The very existence of tip sheets confirm there is a conscious bias before we even get into unconcious bias.

There is just something hilarious about the Warriors talking up their new found resillience for 9 weeks and then having the mother of all sooks by Round 10.

Sadly it's not just their belief. The NRL are openly stating that the refs can't be criticised under any circumstances.

I disagree about hip drops; they could just about all be avoided with a classic legs tackle, but players are taught to win the ruck.

Been said plenty before, but the game needs to find a way to reward a high quality legs tackle.
1 on 1 tackles should be called as "dominant" regardless of if the tackled player is put on his back or belly IMO. In a legs tackle the tackler should be allowed to get to marker before the ball can be played.

That’s part of what I find so amusing.

They’ve managed to control criticism on the inside of the NRL, and they’ve done such a good job that they think they can now apply the same principles to people outside the NRL.

The idea of the refs suing the sponsor is laughable. I hope they give it a crack.

That's not as funny as the idea of the NRL fining a private business. Or telling a private business that they are no longer allowed to give an NRL club money.

Club has said very little.
No doubt the Warriors will be telling Paris to pull his head in. Unfortunately he has come across as a representative of the club with the way this has been seized upon by the media.

You could tell Annesley was basking in the fact there were two incorrect no tries ruled against the Raiders in his press conference so he could throw that official under the bus.

Odd comment, the Warriors haven't said anything and TBH the sponsor speaks for many of us fans who have a guts full.
