If you are selling it to the highest bidder, then you expect that part of the bid is the promotion of the event. Which means NRL is everywhere for that week or two leading into the Grand Final. It's not just about money.

Agreed which is why only NSW and QLD are the only viable options.

Gate takings in NSW is $13m also too. So the whole package needs to be huge

Gate takings difference between Accor and Suncorp/Optus would be around $4-6mill tops. That's if the GF sold out in Sydney at full price, which depending on teams may not do. NSW govt dont pay anything at moment so if another state wants it then as long as its bought for $5mill more than what NSW Govt is willing to pay its still more profit for NRL. MCG has 15k more capacity so in theory could sell more ticket value than Sydney

local media point is wrong. Don't know about Melbourne but when Origin is on here it makes the paper and social media feeds all week long and usually occupies back page day after. Only time RL gets decent coverage. Having been in Sydney for Gf week a few years ago I cant say the city centre was a buzz and full of NRL promotion. In fact you would have been hard pushed to know it was on even though one of the clubs was a Sydney club.
Its not like the media in Sydney and Brisbane is going to ignore the GF because its in another city, in fact they will be fighting each other for the free piss up weekend away! Its more the cost for fans that would concern me. Its not a cheap event to attend then the extra few hundred $'s to get to Perth is a lot to ask compared to the hop skip and jump around the East coast.
Still money talks. I doubt Vlandys is anything but hot air and wont move it but if he does then it will go to whoever bids highest, and WA govt has a very full wallet at the moment.

Again we are talking a regular comp game. If a WA side makes the GF there is no chance RL gets the promotion it deserves.

There is a reason no one is mentioning the AFL states here

The news is a day old, it will come! I'd be surprised if WA sports minister hasn't already sent a fishing email. They were keen during covid. Wont be in next 2 years but 2024 or 2025 if it is taken on the road very possible.

$10m a year NSW pays. So you are looking at $25m roughly a year from hosting the GF here,

Should you move it that is the starting point

They have but Origin doesn't clash with the biggest AFL game of the year. All the focus would be on that
The NRL GF is often the week after the AFL GF (like this year). MCG is the only option that will bring in more $$$ for the NRL than Homebush.

What about that public Holiday they have for AFL where they do the parade? You think NRL gets any publicity before the game? Zero chance it would be the dumbest thing NRL have done ever

Sunday night GF with no Public Holiday in QLD or Victoria even? Very few fans will travel.

Maybe it works for one year but the NRL will want somewhere to host long term, That leaves QLD or NSW
But most fans are from NSW where Monday is a holiday. So why wouldn't they travel? Or just make it the Saturday night the week after AFL GF.

Assuming it sells out that is and it gets the publicity it needs, Not sure it works out for a 20 year deal that they will require

Travel costs will deter quite a few. If you wind up following one of the teams that make the GF, you won't know until at most 7 days beforehand if your team is in. Hencxe air travel will be a lot more expensive, as will accommodation costs as booking that close to travel/accommodation dates are usually at higher rates than if you book 1 or more months beforehand.

Could be a blessing in disguise. Might force clubs to alter their business model and the NRL to get a bit more creative and ambitious than 12k crowds in suburbia.

$100mill sounds good for somewhere like Shark park or Manly but its exactly what we have gone through. HBF Park (nib as it was) was terrible with no covered stands and the stands that were there being scaffold. They spent $125mill on it and it transformed it and we thought wow this is amazing. ten years on we now look at AAMI and Commbank and HBF park is a very long way behind what they offer and suddenly looks very meh again. getting another 1 or 2 commbanks in Sydney will be so much better than chucking money at 4 or 5 suburban grounds that will be outdated nearly as quickly as they are upgraded.

Probably right, and NSW govt probably know it hence why they are telling Vlad to pss off. He's doing well this year, he's gone to war with NSWRL and now NSW govt. Whose next I wonder? I actually think it could be a good thing, spending $100mill slapping lipstick on pigs isn't a good long term solution.
you forgot he led the NRL to a 43 million profit with less income , while spending more on grass roots & clubs then the aflol did , & they lost 43 mill

you seem to forget that a lot lol
