If the Sharks moved this Saturday's game to Allianz, google maps is showing an hour and 45 minutes by public transport to arrive by 7pm (from Shark Park)
?? You can get on a train to cronulla at 5.48pm, get off central at 6.36pm. Tram up to stadium 10mins. that's a 58min trip plus from wherever you live to the train station. Not that I'm saying Cronulla should play at SFS. They should share a new southern stadium with Dragons.

That is different though, for starters you know the match up.

Not sure many locals would drop $150-200 on a ticket on the off chance they like a team.
The Monday is only a public Holiday in NSW, You won't get many travel across. Sydney works as it is an hour flight, So you can even fly home the next day for work/School.

Not to mention the week lead up, Would be all lost in AFL talk in those states.

So leaves 2 realistic options of Sydney and Brisbane. Ave out at $150 a ticket is $12.6m the game makes from Accor hosting it. Which is why it will stay just have to pay a hosting fee
Its an event, people pay to go to events even if they aren't fans. We sell out EPL games at Optus but I doubt hardly any of them are fans of the clubs playing. Selling it out wouldn't be an issue. I do agree though the media would def not have the same hype and it wouldn't be fair on those clubs fans having to fork out Qantas inflated prices to fly all this way. No reason it couldnt be at Suncorp though if the Qlnd Govt stumps up the cash to cover the ticket shortfall.

I've been to over 100 games at that stadium and always had a good time. You just sit near people. Might not come across on the TV, but it's good at the stadium.

I used to live at Nth Strathfield so I could walk to the stadium. Grab a traveller from the pub at Concord West station and do the 10min walk to the ground. That's good if anyone doesn't mind the walk, and wants free parking and quicker out of the ground.
I've been a few times and always found it lifeless and terrible viewing, no buzz at all and little around the place to hold you there before or after game. But each to their own, personally Id travel that bit further to got to Commbank.

It's 20mins into town if you want to do something after the game. Before the game there are decent places to have a feed at all different price points. I'm not sure what your expecting. And big events always have stuff in the park outside the ground to add to the experience.

They had a VB tent one year at an Origin. I drank way too much cause the beer was free. By the time I got into the ground I was a mess. But it did lead me to start many a NSW chant, cause I'm a loud bastard on the drink and I'm sure I got NSW over the line (It was the game Jarryd Hayne jumped into the crowd after winning the series in the Blatchey blues - I was one of the Blatchey's).

Again though that is once in a lifetime games, Usually it is on the same weekend as AFL there is no way especially if a WA side makes the AFL. Enough locals are showing up after a big night to watch the NRL

Given they are preparing to fund an Olympic games, I don't see how they would put in a mindblowing deal to have it for multiple years. Which is why I don't see it leaving NSW

Probably right, and NSW govt probably know it hence why they are telling Vlad to pss off. He's doing well this year, he's gone to war with NSWRL and now NSW govt. Whose next I wonder? I actually think it could be a good thing, spending $100mill slapping lipstick on pigs isn't a good long term solution.

The only states viable is NSW and QLD.

The other states the media hype isn't there due to AFL.

Given NSW has the bigger stadium it stays here IF they match the money
No way

they have all hosted origins and paid handsomely for it

they would sell out easily and help the storm for example get more fans

They have but Origin doesn't clash with the biggest AFL game of the year. All the focus would be on that

How it’s clash ones on a sat ones on a Sunday

if that’s the only issue move the nrl back a week

it would mainly be interstate tourists anyway with 20 percent locals unless the storm got In

What about that public Holiday they have for AFL where they do the parade? You think NRL gets any publicity before the game? Zero chance it would be the dumbest thing NRL have done ever

Sunday night GF with no Public Holiday in QLD or Victoria even? Very few fans will travel.

Maybe it works for one year but the NRL will want somewhere to host long term, That leaves QLD or NSW

We have a PH on the Monday now. We moved it to the same date as NSW for the Grand Final.

Much better.

Point still remains. Very few fans will pay upward of $1000 to sit in the nosebleeds and watch the GF.

The local media won't go. Lets ignore our stupid AFL GF parade and promote NRL GF..

Stupidity of the highest order if it goes ahead

local media point is wrong. Don't know about Melbourne but when Origin is on here it makes the paper and social media feeds all week long and usually occupies back page day after. Only time RL gets decent coverage. Having been in Sydney for Gf week a few years ago I cant say the city centre was a buzz and full of NRL promotion. In fact you would have been hard pushed to know it was on even though one of the clubs was a Sydney club.
Its not like the media in Sydney and Brisbane is going to ignore the GF because its in another city, in fact they will be fighting each other for the free piss up weekend away! Its more the cost for fans that would concern me. Its not a cheap event to attend then the extra few hundred $'s to get to Perth is a lot to ask compared to the hop skip and jump around the East coast.
Still money talks. I doubt Vlandys is anything but hot air and wont move it but if he does then it will go to whoever bids highest, and WA govt has a very full wallet at the moment.

‘Complete spin’: V’landys reveals grand final deadline in scathing attack on Perrottet

By Adam Pengilly and Cameron Atfield

August 3, 2022 — 11.26am

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/live-scores?match=518025554
Peter V’landys insists the NRL only has “two to three” days to decide where this year’s grand final will be played and took a massive swipe at the soon-to-be-opened Allianz Stadium in his latest scathing attack on NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet.
The Australian Rugby League Commission boss revealed the NRL will be forced to make a decision on where this year’s showpiece game is played by the end of the week after he alleged the NSW government withdrew from a commitment to upgrade Sydney’s suburban stadia.

In an extraordinary press conference where he said a handshake with Perrottet was worth “not much at the moment”, V’landys hinted the NRL had entertained the idea of keeping the grand final at Accor Stadium in Sydney to honour their part of the deal.
“We’re going to look at all options and one of the options is for us to stay in Sydney for us to honour our agreement – and we expect them to honour their [agreement],” V’landys said. “That decision will be made in the next two to three days.

“One of the disappointing aspects is we’ve trusted them for the last three months and we kept getting told, ‘there is this happening and that happening. Can you wait for the announcement to happen at a different period?’ Now it’s given us limited opportunity given we’re weeks away from the grand final.
“The main option for us is they’ve got a legally binding agreement and for them to honour that legally binding agreement. You can’t choose and cherry-pick when you honour an agreement. If you’ve got an agreement, you should honour it. Full stop.

“This was the fifth excuse they’ve given us as to why they’re not honouring the agreement. To use the human tragedy of the floods to weasel and spin your way out of a commitment takes it to another level. It’s complete spin.”
The Queensland government is on notice for Suncorp Stadium to host the decider for the second straight year. The venue was used for Penrith’s grand final win over South Sydney after the NRL relocated its competition to Queensland due to COVID-19 border closures.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk suggested she was keen to start negotiations to host the grand final again, saying the door was “always open” to the NRL.
“There’s always this argy-bargy leading up to a grand final,” she said in Townsville on Wednesday.
“We will always have an open mind if New South Wales is not able to put that final on.”
V’landys was speaking at the unveiling of a suite of prizemoney increases for thoroughbred races in NSW, before quickly turning the blowtorch back on the NSW government.
The NRL believed they had an understanding with Perrottet for suburban stadiums at Brookvale, Cronulla and Leichhardt to be upgraded in response to the government scrapping an $800 million redevelopment of Accor Stadium, the country’s largest rectangular sporting venue.

He even took a swipe at the usefulness of the new Sydney Football Stadium, which is due to open next month when the Roosters and Rabbitohs play in the final round of the NRL’s regular season. He described the $800 million build as “unnecessary”.
“It’s a 42,000-seat stadium,” V’landys said. “You’re going to get your honeymoon period for the next few weeks where it’s going to be full, but after that it’s going to be 10,000 or 15,000 [crowds].

“They could have used that $1 billion and built suburban stadiums elsewhere. We want the money invested in suburban areas where they’re multipurpose facilities.”

Asked about his grand final threat, V’landys said: “One thing you’ll learn from me, I don’t bluff.”

This is hilarious. Basically saying our clubs are small time and so better to have spent the money on small venues lol. Here's and idea Pete, how about the NRL getting off its arse and help the clubs fill these amazing stadiums they have been gifted?

“It’s a 42,000-seat stadium,” V’landys said. “You’re going to get your honeymoon period for the next few weeks where it’s going to be full, but after that it’s going to be 10,000 or 15,000 [crowds].

If you are selling it to the highest bidder, then you expect that part of the bid is the promotion of the event. Which means NRL is everywhere for that week or two leading into the Grand Final. It's not just about money.
