depends where you live! there’s probably a million people plus who live within a 30minute train journey of parramatta train station.

But yeh I agree having a third of games finishing at 10pm is dumb.

Maybe as the crow flies.

Reality is 15 mins to the station
Upwards of 20 mins wait for the train
20 mins on the train
Then the trip home

Adds double to that.

TV money is boss here

Some just need to relocate within Sydney. Sharks to SFS. To me if a teams fans will not travel 30 minutes they are useless and should be properly relocated.
30 mins from Shark Park to SFS - in what mode of transport is this happening ?

THings that have previously been proposed for the site. Way better location than Panthers new ground.

THe site is very large. Walking distance to the train station.
Wasn't that supposed to be the site for Stardome?

If the Sharks moved this Saturday's game to Allianz, google maps is showing an hour and 45 minutes by public transport to arrive by 7pm (from Shark Park)

The NSW Govt has stood their ground , there was a deal , it was broken ... a new deal , it was broken , all with this Liberal NSW Govt .
Vlandys went public with a threat to take the NRL's GF to other cities if this Govt that our code had a deal with , is not honored. He doesn't give me the impression he's the sort of guy to make idle threats.

So the GF will be up for grabs starting with this years & it will go to Brisbane.
Perth 2023
Adelaide 2024
Melb 2025

I'd ban Sydney from having it til at least 2026 as punishment for their reneging on the deal.
& even then they'll pay , oh they'll pay for it
Here is where the next 4 Grand finals will be

2022 - Sydney
2023 - Sydney
2024 - Sydney
2025 - Sydney

V'Landys is all bark on this issue.

Disagree

morally speaking it would be wrong to move it when the nsw govt has delivered over 80 percent of the promised money

but there’s a contract which the nsw govt breached

vlandys job is to do the best for rugby league

it could cost the 100 million promised for centre of excellence though

sellling the grand final would not only provide a major financial boost it will help grow the sport even in Victoria

Sharks eye home comforts for NRL finals

George Clarke August 3, 2022

The NRL could deny Cronulla the right to host a home semi-final if the Sharks secure a top-two finish for the first time since 1999 due to the outdated facilities at PointsBet Stadium.

Finishing their season with games against bottom-eight battlers St George Illawarra, Wests Tigers, Manly, Canterbury and Newcastle, the Sharks will fancy their chances of securing a top-two finish under impressive first-year coach Craig Fitzgibbon.

The Sharks have been able to turn their home ground into a graveyard for rival sides this season.

Third-placed Cronulla have a 7-1 record at the ground and only a round-12 loss to the Sydney Roosters has prevented the Sharks from being undefeated at PointsBet.

But in previous years where Cronulla have earned a finals game at home they have had to move games to the old Sydney Football Stadium.

Broadcast, corporate and parking facilities play a factor in the NRL’s consideration of granting clubs a home finals game with the league set to inform clubs of their requirements to host finals fixtures over the next month.

“If we win a home-ground advantage, we would want to play at home,” Sharks chief executive Dino Mezzatesta told AAP after his club last hosted a home finals game at PointsBet Stadium in 2008.

“That’s our starting point and given we are a fair bit out we will continue to have dialogue with the NRL.

“We have had no problem selling out our games regardless of the timeslot.”

PointsBet Stadium is currently working at an 11,500 capacity due to renovations but NRL head of football Graham Annesley said that wouldn’t be a determining factor.

Last year the NRL hosted finals games at Mackay’s 12,000-capacity BB Print Stadium.

“There’s not a specific (crowd) number because it’s a combination of not just a capacity but reserved seating,” Annesley told AAP.

“The long and the short of it is that the NRL has to approve the venue.

“We haven’t reached any conclusion that we would relocate the Sharks should they qualify for a home semi-final.

“We need to go through the process with them and every other club.”

The Sharks’ alternative preference would likely be the newly-built Sydney Football Stadium, although if they were to face another Sydney club they would be ceding any of the advantage earned by their final ladder position.

The Sharks hope to have PointsBet Stadium back to around a 17,000 capacity by July next year but are one of the clubs who were expecting to receive NSW Government funding for an upgrade to their facilities.

Cronulla have an NRLW side entering the competition next year but, as things stand, will be unable to stage men’s and women’s double headers because of the infrastructure.

The only states viable is NSW and QLD.

The other states the media hype isn't there due to AFL.

Given NSW has the bigger stadium it stays here IF they match the money

That is it.

When it comes down to it.

The NRL won't want it being hidden in media in the AFL states, NZ and QLD stadiums are smaller so it will stay here, Just cost $20m or whatever the price is

The irony is you say Souths have done well centralising but everyone wants them to go back to the SFS. Over the 16 years I’ve been going to Stadium Australia, most of the Souths fans I speak to are not from South Sydney.
We’ve got people driving in from MacArthur/Narellan, Canberra, from and over the Blue Mountains, South Coast, Central Coast and Hunter. Despite the gripes, it’s been a good home ground. I know a lot of folks though who are worried about a move back to the SFS and this is where scheduling will hurt. I’d prefer to stay at Stadium Australia or Commbank if truth be told.
I think that's more in relation to how sht Accor is for club games and utilising the SFS better. But yes a move to Commbank might be better for them, they will know hopefully where their attending fans live. There's a quick train from Redfern to paramatta so no reason commbank wouldn't work. If Tigers and Bulldogs got a shared stadium somewhere suitable then Eels and Souths using Commbank works fine. Souths would love those corporate facilities at Commbank I'm sure given how many sponsors they attract.

Dogs fans are the same. If we got a stadium at Liverpool, I think it would be good to move. Otherwise Stadium Australia is better than Bankwest for the fans. It's pretty easy to get to and from.
but its such a terrible experience in comparison. Wouldn't you rather spend an extra 10 or 15mins and watch your club in a far superior stadium that creates a better atmosphere?

we sold out Origin, twice. MCG has had a 100k for origin. I'm sure we'd sell out a GF at Optus. I don't have any problem with it being in Brisbane and Sydney only though given cost of travel on top of tickets if it was in Perth or Adelaide.

I've been to over 100 games at that stadium and always had a good time. You just sit near people. Might not come across on the TV, but it's good at the stadium.

I used to live at Nth Strathfield so I could walk to the stadium. Grab a traveller from the pub at Concord West station and do the 10min walk to the ground. That's good if anyone doesn't mind the walk, and wants free parking and quicker out of the ground.

That is different though, for starters you know the match up.

Not sure many locals would drop $150-200 on a ticket on the off chance they like a team.
The Monday is only a public Holiday in NSW, You won't get many travel across. Sydney works as it is an hour flight, So you can even fly home the next day for work/School.

Not to mention the week lead up, Would be all lost in AFL talk in those states.

So leaves 2 realistic options of Sydney and Brisbane. Ave out at $150 a ticket is $12.6m the game makes from Accor hosting it. Which is why it will stay just have to pay a hosting fee
