Didn’t realise the nsw budget had that large a deficit wow that’s scary

300 million In spending over 5 yrs is a drop in the ocean for a budget of 100 billion pa but I guess it’s just the optics of it with an election coming up

Not just the election we have the flood relief packages
Nurses, Teachers, Train, Childcare staff all striking for more pay... The telling thing for me is the opposition hasn't said they will fund the stadiums. That tells you all you need to know about the situation

Yeah? Do tell.

The Gabba is basically being rebuilt for the Olympics, Big events want to be at 50k venues.

So Accor either needs to be modernised or lose the events to the other states given new SFS is only 45k

Here is the thing. Didn't Parramatta stadium (Bankwest, Commbank) cost $300 million for 30,000 seat capacity?

While the new SFS (Allianz) cost is $828 million for a 42,500 seat capacity. So why is there a huge discrepancy of stadium cost between Allianz and Commbank?

There'd be a couple of things:
- The actually ground that the stadiums are built on can dramatically change any kind of foundation works and costs.
- Allianz has significantly more 'body' around the outside/concession area of the stadium than Commbank. In the below images you can see Commbank is more open on the periphery.

- Allianz has multiple levels that Bankwest does not have. This means more materials in terms of foundation work.
- The roof of allianz is more detailed and as well as being hire means construction costs are more.

It's not a simple "seats cost x amount" equation.

Hes simply preparing for the codes day in court , can't really lecture the defendant about breach of contract when you're doing the same yourself

He would have received legal advice that this is the best path forward at this stage. Its all a game now.

Have they actually broken a contract?

Haven't they said they are still going to do it in the future but they need the cash for flood victims? I don't see the NRL winning the PR battle here.

The NSW government in its various forms has also delivered commbank and a new Allianz in the last few years

Every thing I have seen has said the funding would be there, Just staged approach to it.

Secondly, The NRL is responsible for the low crowds. There are 2 ( Hopefully 3 ) Brand new Stadiums to use. They allow the schedule to be as such that we have the low crowds

PVL is just having a sook

The wording I heard was 'Staged' Approach to the upgraded grounds.

Doing them 1 at a time, Is a good outcome still

He met them five times and had a handshake then they reneged for political reasons

poor timeslots are just a reality of the game. Essentially the game is a TV game crowds are largely irrelevant if we are being honest

sure big crowds are nice and look great on tv but clubs can get by on 10k it’s not the end of the world

he will give them the grand final this year as a show of good faith then next year it goes up for auction

if the nsw government are strapped for cash then they can just sign a new agreement paying the nrl 15 million pa to keep it here

they can afford that

Or they could've build a similar larger version of Commbank stadium. I understand the reasoning with regards to the SFS having more "body" around the outside/ concession area.

But I'd love to see a cost breakdown of how $828 million was spent.

Whilst the government did renege on the deal and it is probably for political reasons as you say, it’s difficult to imagine how the NRL would win a PR battle over this.

Think of it this way: would people prefer the government spend money on stadiums or for flood relief. Now you and I know that is not the case of either/or but any debate will be framed along those lines

People can't catch a train to work today, Rightly or wrongly PR side of things needs that sorted before Stadiums

That is what is was before. NSW should have to pay hosting rights

Exactly. As I said it is not really a case of either/or but there are plenty of issues that need to be resolved in this state and V’Landys whinging about stadiums, notwithstanding promises being broken and the reasons thereto, is unlikely (and rightly so) to cut through

As of now Penrith is on the cards, So it was always likely to be 2024 before a decision is made for the next one.

Who knows maybe the Government is in a position to keep it's promise when the time comes, Sooking now is not the way forwarf
