The Womens FIFA WC trophy shown off in Australia today. Interestingly they brought the mens trophy with it. They didn’t need to do that I would’ve thought. Maybe it’s a sign they’ll take our next bid a little more seriously? Yeh, yeh, dreamin’

What are we up to? 2026? Maybe the women’s World Cup is a test run

Suburbia = myth
Been a great year for Penrith. Still got the week one final to come which will sell out as well.

Crowd numbers will go gangbusters at the Paceway stadium.

Sharks is only low due to restrictions.

If 2016 is anything to go by and the fact the last few weeks have been sold out the average would be closer to 15k easily.

Genius. Afl crowds actually gone down in recent times. Ppl still wanting those modern stadiums?! Did better before hahaha
AFL crowds returned to normal by the end of the season. Melbourne just had a longer COVID hangover than the rest of Australia. Whenever as built, crowds went up 30% - 70% for each teams that played at the new stadium (Adelaide, Perth, Docklands & MCG) compared to the traditional venues. It is what people want. Especially females.

Exactly. You give him stats and you give him anecdotal evidence (from yourself) and he’ll still argue against it.

Doesn't have to be. Like I said with what we have now and penrith planned it literally only leaves Sharks and Manly with little option but to keep playing out of their dumps and try and find a way to get them improved. If the other clubs with options choose to stay stuck in the past that's on them. Hopefully other clubs will get so far ahead they have no option but to change in the future.

We're already seeing movement with Souths wanting to play at Allianz. With the dawning realization that these suburban grounds are not going to be improved other clubs may finally start to wake up to what the future needs to be.
Manly and Cronulla will struggle to attract the corporate sector at Brookvale and Endeavour. The answer is to take as many games to the SFS as they can on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

So Penrith average is higher than Commbank, but don’t deserve a redevelopment because they only have one tenant as they are an NRL city!

Correct. If Penrith want a new stadium that only they can use, don't expect taxpayers to pay for it. Build it yourselves.

Commbank hosted 19 NRL games this year and will host 13-14 A league games , not sure if other uses but will be close to 40 with finals @17k is 680k paying customers compared to Penrith 12 games @18k is 200k paying customers. Can see why the government would want a 2nd tenant to justify.

The business case for a single tenant stadium is poor, there’s absolutely no doubt about that.

But I believe there exists a cultural case for such a stadium, a few points

* The centralised stadium policy was always a poor one, it ignored the realities of Sydney being a city of villages

* If they were going to pursue a centralised stadium policy, they needed to be much smarter about it. We’ve seen how the bulldogs and tigers are reluctant to commit anymore than a few games to Comm Bank, because it’s in the heart of their enemy

* Penrith is quite removed from other parts of Sydney, and again they would never move full time to their enemies backyard

* There exists an opportunity on the Penrith paceway site to make the Penrith stadium a community hub. Something that can be used by more than just the panthers and can be about more than just the stadium. Festivals, markets, functions etc.

* Every new stadium is good for rugby league, the major sport in Sydney. For too long we’ve been on the back foot, not pushing the case for the game. It’s time to play catch-up.

I’m a realist though, it would be unlikely this stadium had any chance if it wasn’t in a marginal electorate. But the game needs to take advantage of any opportunities it can.

After this we need to push again for more stadium upgrades to secure the game in Sydney.

I think it’s the amount of money that is going to be spent which is the problem. Essentially when it comes down to it, you are spending $300 odd million on 5,000 extra seats.

Is there any engineering reason or otherwise which would prevent Penrith from just increasing their capacity at their current ground?
