On a side note how good is the new stadium. Shit overflowing the toilets, people getting rained on, lines for food and drinks at $10each and seats breaking. What a world class facility. Only 30 years to go before it gets rebuilt.

See this is where you let yourself down. The plan was to incorporate the CofE with the ground upgrades after the development was finished as that was the priority to complete the shopping and hotel precinct along with the club to create patronage. Smarter minds than you from the other side of the country have done the work on it. Your constant pokies talk shows your arrogance.

What is the current plan? Do the club own a stake in any of the shopping/hotel/apartments? A

The capacity will go back, I hear, to 18k but is there any intention to expand beyond that?

How does rugby league benefit from this new Allianz Stadium if it's just going to be a new home ground for the Roosters.

I think it benefits union more than rugby league.

We have been rorted by the NSW government yet again.

A rectangular 75k Accor Stadium would have been fantastic.

The SFS was fine the way it was and more than adequate for the Roosters.

The PR machine for the SCG Trust and Stadiums NSW (Rothfield and the Telecrap) are sickening.

Often the most vocal on here, live no where near the areas. Yet are experts

Penrith covers the council Areas of Penrith, Blacktown, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains, parts of Liverpool and Wollondilly. I don’t think that is an insignificant area or population. They also have support from areas west of the Blue Mountains. They are as much a region as The Hunter is.
Are you saying that Newcastle stadium is 38k? If so what do you want, an Allianz type stadium?
You almost sound like the Sydneysiders who don’t believe that anyone lives west of Parramatta and thus don’t deserve anything!
Where are you getting that coverage from?

so what’s the stadium upgrade plans and when are they starting, and whose paying for them?

Surely whilst the stadium was out of action for 2 years would have been the sensible time to rebuild if it was ever going to happen? Maybe instead of buying more pokies the money could have developed the stadium so you could earn from increased fans and corporates?
The money has now gone, the Stadium is still below standard and you’re banking on more people using the pokies to stay afloat. Best hope people don’t wake up one day to how sht pssing away their money is.

Blame the nrl and the clubs who decide not to use it.

Blame the AFL and the NSW Government under Bob Carr for the problems with Accor Stadium not being rectangular. The original plan was, post the 2000 Olympic for the Stadium to be permanently reconfigured to being rectangular. The AFL persuaded Car and his Ministers (a couple of whom, like Ian Macdonald, were very big AFL supporters) to keep it as "multi-configurable" so AFL Matches could be played there. In fact the AFL kicked in a few million dollars to help pay for that.

Heck if you go back to things, the Roosters were originally happy for the SFS to get a refurb whilst Accor got a major rennovation to becoming rectangular and what nots. The then SCG Trust and Stuart Ayres were the ones who got that over turned once Mike Baird resigned as NSW Premier.

In the medium term I doubt Allianz will only be home to the Roosters in the NRL.

Won't the rent from the Commercial side dwarf pokie money?

Souths want to use it as their home ground. The government won't allow them. The govt only wants the Roosters to share it with soccer and union.
No the govt doesn’t want Accor as a white elephant, I doubt it has anything at all to do with what roosters want. tigers and dogs are taking games away from it and if souths move then it becomes a very expensive empty stadium.

The original deal was for Accor to be knocked down first and re-built as rectangular until the Fitzsimmons campaign and the SCG Trust (Ayres' mates) started pushing their weight around.

Souths signed a long term deal with Accor because their fans, at least the ones that pay to go to games in decent numbers, live out that way. The club even had surveys that suggested fans voted to stay at Accor. They’re not going to abandon those fans who’ve bought memberships nor were they genuinely serious about wanting to go to Allianz. It was all just rivalry shit posting. I think some clubs including Souths, will eventually take a few games there at some point.

Well they should have re-developed it like originally planned. I don't blame Souths for not wanting to play there in its current state.

It wouldn’t surprise me that they split games between Allianz and Accor (half-half) in the long term. I reckon in 5-10 years you may also see the Saints, Manly and Cronulla playing a few games there (maybe 3-4 day games or big games). The latter might not seem possible but I think there will be a gap between certain Sydney clubs if they don’t.

It's not to say the new stadium doesn't have some very good new features. There is plenty to like.

However one of the problems was the lack of protection for seats in the bowl area of the old stadium from the rain and, based on what I experienced last night, it is sad to see that it has not really changed. It is especially galling as the PR statements about the new Allianz stadium were that all seats were undercover which is obviously erroneous.
And at the end of the day wasn’t the roofline the clincher for justifying the knockdown and rebuild over renovating the old SFS? The new stadium might be pretty good, but the old one wasn’t actually bad- and given the rest of the improvements could’ve probably been achieved with a six month renovation of the old structure for a fraction of the cost, it really looks like we’ve spent hundreds of milllons of dollars for a slightly improved roofline. Just shows how easy it is to get your way when you’ve got influential mates, doesn’t it?
