They bought a load of pokies in a golf club lol, golf, clubs hardly return big profits.

Do they keep their pokie profits though? Panthers don't to fund their projects

Not on their own they don't, Flow on revenue is where it is

They had $27m from contracts with customers. Shows income coming in from somewhere

It wouldn’t surprise me that they split games between Allianz and Accor (half-half) in the long term. I reckon in 5-10 years you may also see the Saints, Manly and Cronulla playing a few games there (maybe 3-4 day games or big games). The latter might not seem possible but I think there will be a gap between certain Sydney clubs if they don’t.
Can definitely see Saints playing a few at Allianz, at least until the eventual full time (if & when) move to the Gong eventuates. They were a regular feature at Moore Park during the glory days when the match of the round was played there and of course they take their Anzac clash there. Not sure about the other two as Manly are getting some money spent on their ground and not sure about the Sharks. I find the reno going on down there a little confusing tbh.

and Vlandys told them not to bother and spend it on suburban tips instead. #tribalism

That's not quite right. What Brutus was highlighting, at the time, Greenberg was in charge. Then in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, the NSW gov. announced that Stadium Australia (ACCOR) would not receive funding for revelopment, hence saving $800 million.

But in 2018, the NRL had an agreement with the NSW state government that ACCOR would get a rebuild. Once ACCOR was canned in 2020, the NRL and PVL wanted most of that money to be shifted towards suburban grounds, therefore keeping that agreement alive from NRL's end.

And if the state government don't proceed with rebuilding suburban grounds,,then the NRL would put the GF to tender.

And at the end of the day wasn’t the roofline the clincher for justifying the knockdown and rebuild over renovating the old SFS? The new stadium might be pretty good, but the old one wasn’t actually bad- and given the rest of the improvements could’ve probably been achieved with a six month renovation of the old structure for a fraction of the cost, it really looks like we’ve spent hundreds of milllons of dollars for a slightly improved roofline. Just shows how easy it is to get your way when you’ve got influential mates, doesn’t it?
Let’s be honest, the SFS was built before corporate suites were a thing. As you can remember, the corporate suites were an afterthought and stuck on the ends of the ground and clearly couldn’t have been incorporated into the western and eastern stands otherwise they would’ve been long ago. The Trust didn’t want to miss out on the big corporate dollars. Sure, the disability areas have increased and women have more facilities now as the old ground didn’t cater for them but no way in hell we’re they a motivator for the trust to rebuild. The other one I heard was they feared they couldn’t clear people out fast enough in the event of a catastrophe. I was there at the Easts/Souths attendance record night and leaving wasn’t difficult at all.

Ah yeah I forgot about the corporate suites. Agree with you on the other points as well.

There’s a lot things pending on that scenario

a.) Roosters memberships and crowds going the same way as Parra has post Commbank. Here’s your chance Roosters fans to debunk the no supporters barbs - Possible

b.) Souths as a brand across Sydney seeing a way to target both their East - West supporters - Probable

c.) Manly and Cronulla not getting enough funding to make their facilities competitive with Commbank or Allianz. Their facilities don’t compare with those stadiums but if they can’t improve their capacities to say 25k economics might force their hand somewhat. That’s particularly if they see other clubs with better facilities and boom in memberships as a result.

I don’t see those clubs ever abandoning those grounds full stop but they may look at moving some big games against Sydney teams - Souths, Parra for example to accomodate greater ticket sales.

Although I’ll add the whole home of the Sydney Roosters and the press around it hasn’t been helpful. Part of the stadium problem is clubs self interest

The original deal was for Accor to be knocked down first and re-built as rectangular until the Fitzsimmons campaign and the SCG Trust (Ayres' mates) started pushing their weight around.

Excuse me. What I was talking about was when what is now Accor was under construction. That was well before what you are talking about. I'm not saying your point is irrelevant, but had thge Carr Government not had its head turned by the AFL we may have had a rectangual stadium straight after the 200 Olympic were held, as was originally intended, and hence less need for the revamp (or a much cheaper one) which people like Fitzy helped scuttle.

Besides the "rivalry shit posting", some have speculated that by the carry on about going to Allianz, Souths are trying to see if they can force the NSW Government to give them a better deal to stay put.

Yes but the signage of "Home of the Sydney Roosters" is just part of the Roosters lease agreement. In all honesty I doubt they pay to have exclusive access to its use (when you consider Sydney FC and the Waratahs also have "Home of.." signage on the stadium and are also trennants of the ground). That issue is just a load of b/s in reality.

I‘d like to see the draw organised so two of the above clubs are drawn against say Cowboy/Tits that traditionally produce small crowds here and host a double header at Allianz

Games against say the Cowboys or Titans tend to be the games those clubs take "away" to other venues (e.g. Gosford, Dubbo, Sunshine Coast).

Tbf these are the type of games that should be played at suburban grounds instead of going to a bigger ground. So for example Sharks or Manly could play out of town sides at Shark Park or Brookvale (, Thursday, Friday or Saturday night etc) and play Sydney sides at SFS (Saturday or Sunday day games)

Maybe that’s the way around the stadium problem - just better scheduling.
