The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Parra is doing a lot of behind the scenes manoeuvring to expel the Tigers and Bulldogs from Commbank. As for Waratahs, only a matter of time before their 5k crowds see them playing all over the place again.

Exactly. The NRL need to show leadership here and get their heads out of the clouds. The government isn’t going to spend money on 9 grounds at the standard of Commbank (they might not spend any extra after Penrith at this stage) so it is time to deal with reality

Yeah I saw that article. It’s a bit of a joke and it’s the type of attitude that prevents us from solving the stadium issue. For instance if the Sharks, Sea Eagles or Saints came to them with the offer of games there are they going to say ‘no, it’s the home ground of the Roosters, that’s all’

Parra want the same at CommBank now

It's a huge shame that Homebush wasn't rebuilt instead of the SFS. Everyone said in 2016 that the new Parra stadium would be exactly that, a new home ground for Parra and no one else. Six years on, we have the exact same problems, but with two clubs getting state of the art grounds at taxpayer expense while the rest are in limbo.

Loudmouths like Politis need to be seriously schooled by the NRL.

Yep Parra will never have FT NRL tennants outside of the Eels

It's also partly the fault of the Tigers/Bulldogs fans who refuse to go there and dismiss it as New Pirtek. Anyway, as expected the $1.2 billion stadium spend in NSW achieved nothing.

The Tigers should just pick Campbelltown if they won't go to Commbank. The crowds there are bad but if they commit and build out there it might turn around.

That’s the problem. Clubs have way too much power in this game. If the ARLC had any cojones they would lead the debate for once and put the clubs back in their place.

They need to realise that if Parra or the Roosters are allowed to do this then where are the other clubs going to play, considering

1. a whole list of grounds aren’t suitable anymore and
2. the government isn’t realistically going to spend money on upgrading five or six grounds

They can’t keep going on this fantasy about all 9 clubs have Commbank grounds. It’s delusional.

It’s typical of the game mate. We are talking about the Sharks having a final in front of 10k fans and the ARLC seem to think that is ok. Penrith are going to pull down their stadium but it is good enough for a home final. Can you imagine any of these scenarios happening in any other popular sport?

The clubs just do what they want and the whole independence is just a mirage.

If it made sense comercially teams would be there

They pulled down a perfectly good Parramatta stadium to suit the WSW, then they should have renovated the SFS instead of pulling it down and building Allianz to suit the SCG Trust. Both of these were considered suitable to host finals, both home and neutral!
This would have left enough money to build Penrith and upgrade Brookie and some of the other grounds.

Mate the whole suburban tribalism thing is a myth. It just limits growth of all the Sydney clubs, not just in attendance but for corporates and other facilities.

Also, some of those stadiums are so far behind suitable that they need more than just some upgrades. They would need to be completely gutted and rebuilt (and that is if they have the amount of land to build a much bigger stadium)

I know you are mate. It’s a frustrating situation from afar. You have 2 to 3 good facilities in the city but the game (ARLC) seem happy for a majority of clubs to pay at s***hole stadiums
Yeh it’s frustrating. I’ve gone on record here as saying Sharks should play at Allianz and Souths as well. The issue with Souths is Stadiums NSW want Accor to retain a tenant to prevent it becoming a white elephant. I would actually like that to happen as that will highlight the need for the refurb. I’d like to see Fitzsimon argue against it while it sits empty for all but 4/5 nights a years. I still genuinely believe Souths would rather play at a refurbed Accor, however and the complaints we’ve heard this week is mainly aimed at getting a better deal on the existing lease.

This is the Tigers and Bulldogs fault. Apart from the venue being in the suburb of Parramatta, there's nothing about the venue that is exclusively Eels in the NRL. They're based in Kellyville, not at the stadium which is different to Easts at SFS.

The Tigers (and perhaps Bulldogs) could have made a fist of WSS as their home venue, but were easily run out of town by a Parra team that wins games and turned it into a fortress, while Tigers and Bulldogs were losing matches.

Grows some cajones, especially Tigers. Parra is practically on the door step of the Balmain rugby league district.

I think a good deal for Souths would be to split games evenly between Accor and Allianz. Going by you and other posters who would know more than me but if they have a fair few supporters out west as well as on the east that might be a way to service their supporters.

Interesting you think Cronulla is an option. I always thought that it would be too far for them to travel every game? Manly might be another option?

On the Parra thing though if the NRL allows them to do that (they shouldn’t but if it happens) then they should hope for a development at Allianz and have Souths, Dogs and Tigers playing there.
