The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

This is the Tigers and Bulldogs fault. Apart from the venue being in the suburb of Parramatta, there's nothing about the venue that is exclusively Eels in the NRL. They're based in Kellyville, not at the stadium which is different to Easts at SFS.

The Tigers (and perhaps Bulldogs) could have made a fist of WSS as their home venue, but were easily run out of town by a Parra team that wins games and turned it into a fortress, while Tigers and Bulldogs were losing matches.

Grows some cajones, especially Tigers. Parra is practically on the door step of the Balmain rugby league district.

Parra Leagues right next door?
Who you pay $30 for should you park there

Why would either side want to give the opposition money? No doubt flow on business they get as a result

The Sharks are a marketable brand but limit their growth at Shark Park. The Southern Sydney A League bid had a plan for a stadium at Loftus. The Sharks should look to build something similar.View attachment 65850

They are an interesting one. They don’t have the pushback/revulsion that another similar outer suburban club Manly has (love/loath them etc) so I have never understood why they have never seemingly attempted to broaden their support across southern sydney

Fair enough. Play exclusively at Allianz then.

Mate the whole suburban tribalism thing is a myth. It just limits growth of all the Sydney clubs, not just in attendance but for corporates and other facilities.

Also, some of those stadiums are so far behind suitable that they need more than just some upgrades. They would need to be completely gutted and rebuilt (and that is if they have the amount of land to build a much bigger stadium)
Loada shit

If the Roosters want to block other clubs from using the ground, they can pay the government back the cost to build it. If the government pays for your stadium, no you do not get any right to exclusive use.

Sorry, like the Newcastle Knights did during the 1990s with (then named) Marathon? Yeah, ok 🤣

Especially as a good part of Parramatta Leagues Club (iirc, tjhe car park) is on crown land which they pay a nominal rent to the NSW Government for.

I think a good deal for Souths would be to split games evenly between Accor and Allianz. Going by you and other posters who would know more than me but if they have a fair few supporters out west as well as on the east that might be a way to service their supporters.

Interesting you think Cronulla is an option. I always thought that it would be too far for them to travel every game? Manly might be another option?

On the Parra thing though if the NRL allows them to do that (they shouldn’t but if it happens) then they should hope for a development at Allianz and have Souths, Dogs and Tigers playing there.
With Cronulla, I meant their final. Lazy post, apologies

I’m not suggesting that Souths aren’t partly to blame. Also I think eventually there will be a compromise and they will split the games between Allianz and Accor

It’s the parochialism and the club self interest that worries me. In that same paper there was also a short story about Parra and how they are trying to get a similar deal at Commbank etc.

So are we going to have clubs selfishly hoarding grounds because we are not going to have all 9 clubs getting their own exclusive Commbank type facilities - it is not feasible.
They would rather see the clubs without a fancy stadium go broke.

They pulled down a perfectly good Parramatta stadium to suit the WSW, then they should have renovated the SFS instead of pulling it down and building Allianz to suit the SCG Trust. Both of these were considered suitable to host finals, both home and neutral!
This would have left enough money to build Penrith and upgrade Brookie and some of the other grounds.

This is what I don't get.
Parra stadium wasn't "perfectly good", as you claim.
You bang on and on about this (even sooking about it continually), but Sydney now has two great new stadiums that have been bought into the 22nd Century. Both Allianz and Parra were actually shitholes for this day and age.
You can't see that because your home ground was, and still is, a bigger shithole than what they were.
The Wanderers were pulling big crowds and will do so again in the future if they can get back to winning again. That was enough justification to re-build what was a really shit major stadium in Sydney's 2nd biggest (and growing) 2nd CBD which the Wanderers ensured was being used 12 months of the year.
Your jealousy and immature whining is embarrassing.
Just shut up.

Having grown up there, it’s a very insular culture but they missed a trick when Saints took over the Illawarra who had better synergy with the Shire.

Parra is doing a lot of behind the scenes manoeuvring to expel the Tigers and Bulldogs from Commbank.

I call bull-shite on that.
Do you have proof of that or a link?
It's actually in Parra's best interests to have as many events at CommBank as possible.
The Leagues Club is next door.

There was an article in Sunday’s terrorgraph stating that they were upset at the treatment that Roosters have received with the new SFS (the whole home of the Sydney Roosters sign and them trying to stop Souths from playing there - although the latter is over egged) and are arguing for the same at Commbank.

It’s 101 as to why the clubs shouldn’t be leading or organising themselves - they are petty and vindictive. The NRL should just tell clubs in Sydney that these are the venues and you are playing either here or there.

The old ones only lasted 30 years each. These new ones will be decrepit long before the 22nd century.

It’s a bit stupid really. I know Manly is the same. Their locations are probably the difficulty with the whole stadium thing.

They won’t consider broadening their own support, they claim it is too far to travel to good facilities but the government isn’t likely to keep funding upgrades long term so what do you do?
