Eels have taken a hit to include free kids memberships. But they want to get the most out of their great new opportunity. Dolphins must be taking a hit in how they've priced their Suncorp memberships unless they got a much better deal than Broncos.
Sometimes businesses will have loss leaders in one area in order to build customer base or benefit in other areas. More committed fans = more merch sales for example. Full stadiums make corporate box sales easier. Sponsors want to jump on board clubs with big fanbases.
There's many positives to building a bigger active fanbase. With 75% of NRL clubs now playing out of decent stadiums we need to see more initiatives to utilise their facilities to grow the game.

Maybe NRL could help Souths move with a promise of more use of accor for other things? Mind you I doubt the NSW govt is keen to do NRL any favours after the very public slagging off Vlandys just gave them. I would imagine theres a 'big f**k you' when ever NRL comes up in parliament house discussions at the moment!
