I worked at the metro back in 97

I didn't start working there till 2014. Used it as my regular shopping centre from when it opened. Moved permanently in to the area in 1997 although lived close by earlier than than that over the years in a few rental properties. I miss the old pie shop that used to be in the corner area roughly where the St George bank is now, that seems like a 1,000 years ago now.

I miss the old Chinese dude who would carve for you freshly roasted duck or char sui where Aldi now is.

Lets use Sharks as an example

Allianz is 30km away

In that way you pass through

Dragons
Souths
Roosters Territory - Their fanbases aren't going to change to Sharks

Directly around that area businesses are linked to either one of them,

Inner City is one area of Sydney where AFL is strong and RU is supported, Neither of their supporters will likely change.

Not to mention they are charged to play at Allianz and not at Shark Park, Then there is the business the club makes off fans eating before or after a game in the club

So again tell me how Sharks fan base will grow?
So you're saying the Sharks have no prospect of being anything other than a small club based out of a dilapidated park?

Thanks for proving the point @Perth Red and I have been arguing for months.

Golf club is more than just poker machines

You never answered how Sharks will convert those other fanbases across?

Or inner City snobs that hate RL?
Building a fanbase is a generational project. It doesn't happen overnight. The club will need to target juniors across Southern Sydney. It would help if they changed their brand to Southern Sydney Sharks and used some of the $1.5m they're getting over 12 years to get their brand noticed north of the Georges River.

Wow that is ages ago now, i have seen that place change so much over the years, i remember when the basic Franklin's supermarket went in where the medical centre is now and the centre went from being a ghost town to being a viable centre, it now has a new 2 story section across the road.

What they could do with Shark Park is sell it to developers, get into a partnership with the NRL and build a new stadium elsewhere.

With the initial stadium design, the Sharks could replicate old Pirtek stadium, where behind the goal posts on each end, there is one tier of seating with no roof. Build it at 20k-22k.

As the club grows, it could expand the ground in the future to around 30k by adding a second tier of seating and a roof on each end of the ground behind the goal posts.

The roosters and Eels need to shoulder some of the blame
Facts, CommBank was built for more than one tenant. The wester Sydney soccer team, the Eels, also used for the Bulldogs and Tigpies . There are multiple tenants and the facility is used 12 months per year , another Tigers fan wanting to blame everyone when their issue is that they need to build around Campbelltown not some inner city COE that is 90minutes away from their real junior base.

So glad i bought a home unit before the prices went crazy everywhere, bought into St Peters in 1997 , quick walk or bus ride to Newtown, Enmore and Marrickville, really love the south end of King St as it is closest to where i live, some great eating places along there, sometimes it is hard to work out where you want to go out for dinner with so many great options close by, i wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

We just have to weight up what is in the best interest of the code long term. A bit less money coming in the players getting a little bit less money but the crowds potentially growing. Previous generations of players played for not much money. They can say they were proper custodians of the game. This generation of player makes a lot of money and don’t give a shit about the game.

Ok, so the code just ignores industrial agreements as to what it pays its players huh? Yeah that will work well 🙄

So was Allianz. I mean Sydney FC and the NSW Waratahs also play out of it.

The Sharks should raze Toyota Stadium and start again. Build a cheap flat pack 22-25k seat stadium and watch them grow.

But leaving that dump the way it is now is just an embarrassment to the NRL. It's almost as bad as Leichhardt
They don't have the money. They got $39m for selling their stake in the Woolooware Retail Development. They've already spent $12m of it on redeveloping their Leagues Club. $9m went towards paying off debts. The other $18m is tied up in a fund and is being drip fed to them at a rate of $1.5m per annum over 12 years. After that they'll be back to being asset rich and financially poor, with a bit of revenue generated by Sharks at Kareela Golf Club, the Leagues Club in Woolooware and possibly the licenced Club in Coffs Harbour that they're trying to amalgamate.

Maybe NRL could help Souths move with a promise of more use of accor for other things? Mind you I doubt the NSW govt is keen to do NRL any favours after the very public slagging off Vlandys just gave them. I would imagine theres a 'big f**k you' when ever NRL comes up in parliament house discussions at the moment!
The Gladiator should dip his hands into his pockets and get some of his mates from Hollywood to refurbish the joint. 😂
