The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Given one side is totally compromised by buildings and one end by power lines, the other end with a small but relatively new stand, how much could you actually do to Shark Park? Replace the ET stand with a decent sized big stand but that's probably about it?

interesting isnt it

ideally you would knock down everything bar the newer stand, and level the family hill.
then you have more space to build.

if its a complete upgrade you build say... a big grandstand like what they have at newcastle, 2 tiered with corporate boxes in the mid level. double change rooms etc. under a roof

and then wrap that lower level all the way around the field to the north end, around the east side other side. so you have a big horse shoe bowl, a big stand above the western side. the burns stand is as it is, or is changed however personally i would just leave it as it is.

Who is going to pay for the away members to attend?

The clubs involved and the NRL could work out a way to make it beneficial for all clubs involved I’m sure, even if it’s the NRL subsidising some of it. Trying to build an attendance culture for the Sunday game and getting kids in free should pay off in the long run if they can make it work. Clubs already offer away game memberships so I’m sure there’s systems already in place that could be tweaked.

The problem though with that is you are in effect cutting the revenue the game brings in if you have the NRL pay for it, as they would be paying for it out of their current revenue sources.

Also away game memberships? Please enlighten me as to which NRL clubs currently offer them?

I dont think it needs to be subsidized, other than for kids, there is a lot of ROI for NRL in getting as many kids to games as possible.
Adding reciprocal away games to memberships does allow clubs to sell memberships for a bit more and recoup it there. So lets say all the NSW venues clubs agreed to reciprocal agreements. A club like Roosters, Souths, Dogs, Eels etc could sell a 16 game membership instead of a 12 game one. The home club only loses out on a few thousand ticket sales which they should be able to make a bit up on in increased membership sales to their own members. The venues get more revenue from food and drink and can reduce rent, the NRL gets full stadiums, the TV gets much better atmosphere and look. Everyone's a winner!

You'd have thought it would have been logical to put the corporate stand on that side so that the LC could supply the food and drink services to the boxes?
well they have corporate facilities in the ET, the Porter and then the club side etc
as to why things were built where in the 60's..that would be harder to find

A look around the grounds and you see members and corporates placed on the western side so they’re not facing the sun. Sharks owned land on both side of the field yet back in the day, chose to build the leagues club with grandstand built into it, on the eastern side, meaning members and guests now faced the sun. Would love to know why they made that choice. Watching games there as a kid, I always imagined that the members stand would eventually branch out north and south before eventually wrapping around the entire field. None of that is possible now. Not from the look of it now anyway. It just seems confusing. Would love to know if any Sharks fans on here have more details.
i am firmly of the opinion that no football was considered when the development was being drawn up. as a result we have the build as we have it.

From a kids point of view. It really wouldnt cost a lot. say the goal is 3000 kids in for free every game. NRL cover the cost at a reasonable amount ie $10 a kid. That's $360k a club or total investment of $6mill. Again this is the sht you can do if you land a $600mill TV deal instead of a $400mill one!

Which is why teams play in their smaller grounds, It is better to the bottom line

Some teams, and only the ones with small fanbases and no ambition or ability to grow.

Lets use Sharks as an example

Allianz is 30km away

In that way you pass through

Dragons
Souths
Roosters Territory - Their fanbases aren't going to change to Sharks

Directly around that area businesses are linked to either one of them,

Inner City is one area of Sydney where AFL is strong and RU is supported, Neither of their supporters will likely change.

Not to mention they are charged to play at Allianz and not at Shark Park, Then there is the business the club makes off fans eating before or after a game in the club

So again tell me how Sharks fan base will grow?

Like I said, small teams with no ambition or ability to grow. You give Sharks as the perfect example. They know this, hence why they are using their money to buy pokie machines instead of investing it in their facilities and business to attract more fans.

improving the facilities was deemed too expensive for the return on investment to do it themselves.
they also received conflicting and flimsy advice from the nrl in the past re suburban grounds and their futures etc.
they have money to spend on the place but are waiting and ideally wanted the govt money.

im not sure that the thing of it being their venue was actually a hindrance. they were told they had the money and then it was all backflipped, as per in rl with handshake agreements

Golf club is more than just poker machines

You never answered how Sharks will convert those other fanbases across?

Or inner City snobs that hate RL?
