Went to A league on weekend. Wasn’t impressive. Toilet lines were awful. Lack of available food (literally waiting for chips, I mean common people are gonna order chips ffs) and mid bay sideline still got wet.

Might as well have been at shark park not a brand new stadium.
with an aleague crowd? Did they all decide to use the same toilet? dodgy burgers filling the loos?

Whats it say? Paywall. Very stupid of the SMC to put up signs as if the place belongs to one club thats just renting it. Its NSW tax payer owned.
Sydney’s latest stadium row has erupted in a bitter dispute between two of Sydney’s wealthiest and most powerful sporting officials - over a $150 Bunnings tarpaulin and a ‘cover-up’.

Long-time Roosters supremo Nick Politis is at war with Sydney FC’s A-League chairman Scott Barlow, whose clubs share the new $900 million Allianz Stadium at Moore Park.

Sydney FC hosted their first home game at the venue last Saturday night and demanded the sign at the northern end of the stadium ‘Home of the Sydney Roosters’ be covered over on game day.

Fans arrived at the ground to find the Roosters’ branding had disappeared behind a shabbily erected tarpaulin, similar to one which sells at Bunning for $152.

The Roosters are accustomed to territorial stadium battles with NRL rivals the South Sydney Rabbitohs but this one caught them by surprise.

On Tuesday the CEO’s of the two clubs – the Roosters’ Joe Kelly and Sydney FC’s Adam Santo – had a furious phone exchange over the issue.

The conversation was terminated when Santo hung up on Kelly.

“I told him what they’d done was the equivalent of vandalism,” Kelly said.

“I also told him we’d be looking at our legal options … then he hung up on me.”

A fuming Politis then contacted Venues NSW to express his disgust.

Meetings have been arranged for Wednesday to try to sort out the dispute.

Politis has left the country for the Rugby League World Cup in England but fired a shot at Sydney FC before he stepped onto the plane.

“It’s very, very petty,” Politis said, “They obviously don’t understand our history.

“We’ve been on this site with three stadiums for 86 years. How long have they been around?

“What they did with the tarpaulin looked so hideous on a beautiful new $900 million stadium.”

Politis insists the Roosters have an agreement in which their branding has to be permanently visible.

He revealed the club had paid $12.5 million to build their own centre of excellence and football offices at the venue as their home for the next 25 years.

“Sydney FC don’t understand,” Politis said.

“They just have a ground hire agreement.

“We paid for our own facilities and we pay rent for the space we use.

“It’s in our contract that the signage is part of that agreement.”

Barlow refused to return phone calls or text messages.

While Politis is worth $2.3 billion, Barlow is not short of quid himself.

He is married to the daughter of Russian billionaire David Traktovenko.

The couple sold their Point Piper home last year for almost $40 million.

Basically the roosters think that because they paid to build their admin and training facilities at the site that they have more 'claim' over the stadium.

Can just see it going the way of CommBank stadium and other clubs are discouraged from using the SFS.
Though it was petty to cover up the signage, I'm pretty sure FC and rugby both have signs on the stadium?

The wanderers did the same at the old parra stadium now their crowds have slumped that Sydney united get similar crowds as they do

it’s funny seeing soccers insecurity in Australia as it’s a minor sport to the two big football codes

Thanks for posting. You'd think they'd have juts put up signage for all three main tenants wouldn't you? Allowing Roosters to buy space in the new stadium was a stupid idea and that can now be seen in the way they are behaving like they feel an entitlement to own the place.

He's right. Should have been rebuilt to AAMI Park/Commbank size (30k).
Should have had a 20k intimate mode more to the point! Its a good size for a city size of Sydney, that its sports clubs cant get it even half full is a bit telling really. NSW govt now has the 3 stadiums levels 30k, 45k, 80k. Its done its job.

Nice bullshit. And I don't mean that in a bad or rude way. I just think you are being disingenuous.
Your comparison with Sydney United is laughable.

I'm a Wanderers fan and I hate Sydney FC. But they have not done anything wrong here.
It is NOT the Roosters stadium. It is owned and run by Venues NSW. Just like the SCG, Commbank, Wollongong and Newcastle, as well as Accor. All of which share tenants.
Of course, clubs like SFC would want their home ground to appear to be their home ground on game day, just like the Waratahs would, or, the Matilda's, Wallabies or even the Socceroos for example.
I was quite happy for the 3 long term tenants to have their symbols attached to the front of the stadium, sort of.
But to have a major sign like the Roosters have at the back of the stadium speaks of Politis Power. Why couldn't there have been two more like that for SFC and the Waratahs? It's their home too.
History has nothing to do with it.
Commbank has seen nothing of this. It is a stadium that is shared, and every team that appears there puts their own mark on the stadium on game day with lighting, flagpoles on match day, food and merchandise stalls, entertainment etc......

It is not insecurity from football. It is about looking after their fans and making their game day experience all about their own team, not the Roosters.
Your argument is really petty.

Technically speaking they own about 1.5% of it.

In reality they probably contributed $12.5m of furniture and fittings in a space within the stadium to house their centre of excellence. They would then pay rent to have their club offices there and have exclusive use of the space where the centre of excellence is for the duration of their contract.

IMO there should be no club specific branding on either the SCG and Allianz, rather having digital signage that can be switched on depending on which tenant is using the stadiums on game day. The sooner this Venues NSW board is changed the better.

The Bunnies have one home game at Allianz next year. I look forward to what we will do to it. Surely some sort of temporary sign could block it.

Lmao Sydney fc are Damaging government property

the roosters lease agreement specifically allows them to do this

and this was the roosters home ground back in the nsl days. Remember them lmao

and the wanderers did the same petty crap at parra stadium

If Sydney fc are unhappy with how the stadium looks then go play somewhere else. The stadium is too big for their average crowds these days anyway

socca fans needs to accept the reality that it’s a minor minor sport here

Yeh, its dumb. Optus stadium doesn't have any signage but you know exactly which club is playing there on a night as the whole stadium and surrounding area is lit up in that clubs colours. In this day and age you really dont need a permanent sign lol.

Why ? here we go again. Any normal Rugby League fan should be celebrating one of our clubs being able to buy space in a $900m stadium and if they want to throw their weight around because they are the biggest fish in the pond well good on them. We need clubs like that in every large city in Australasia.
