It's a health hazard holding tennis tournaments in Melbourne in January. Temperatures reach 40 degrees with hot dry winds from the desert travelling into Melbourne. The only reason the event is held there is because the Victorian Government wastes tax payer money on it and other unwanted events like the F1. It's the price Melbourne has to pay to be relevant. Melbourne is so desperate for relevance it pays for Origin.

Victoria has produced really shit tennis players who've failed to win a grand slam over the last 30 plus years. Grand slam champions like Rafter, Stosur and Barty are from Queensland.
Whilst at the other end of the spectrum it produces dangerous, rambling methheads like yourself living in a caravan with a leaking roof.

why is suncorp run down? Looked good last time I was there 4 years ago. Has it deteriorated so much in that time? Its only 20 years old in its current guise.

The western stand was built in 1994, it's pretty ordinary in the concourse areas at the top and bottom. I'm not a fire expert but I'm surprised the lower area meets code as it is extremely tight and cramped when you're trying to get out after a game, I can only imagine the crush that would occur in an actual emergency on that side.

Suncorp doesn't need a knock down and i don't think you can expand it due to the roof support pillars and the way they're built, you could maybe rebuild the older western side and make it a bit bigger with modern design, the roof line would probably have to be changed on that side which would ruin the continuing line the whole way around.

Partial rebuilds are so expansive it’s better to wait and just build it from scratch

I shudder to think what a 60k-65k Suncorp would cost to build these days........
Yanks are building theirs for under a billion in the nfl dunno why ours are so expensive

Perth included a lot of other infrastructure

cowboys design wasn’t a cheap build

alllianz has loads of extras in there

you would think a billion would still do it

NFL under a billion?

The newest stadium on the horizon is the new Bills one and it's $1.4 billion and it will be one of the smallest in the league at 62k capacity with a modest design.

Rams was over $5 billion US....... not sure where you're getting your figures from mate.

Yeh I’d read an article about the bills getting 750 million off the ny govt so i assumed that was the total cost

Things are also more expensive in Australia to build - we have high labour costs.

Suncorp seems fine to me, in saying that I haven't been to the new Allianz, North QLD or Optus stadiums so I don't really know what a shiny new stadium should look like.

It is, certainly not bad enough by any stretch to justify a rebuild. Its still sits as the second best large rectangular stadium in the country. Allianz best large stadium, Commbank sits as best mid size.
