Not really, I don't think it will stop them upgrading when needed, moreso it'll just add more costs that could of been avoided when the time does come

End of the day it's atleast a good thing the government thought about and somewhat planned for Melbourne one day having a 50k rectangular ground

If it was a simpler roof design to begin with, then, if needed, would be far easier to upgrade and increase capacity.

I think at best Labor said they would look at the business case for the new Penrith Stadium. I think they after looking at the business case for a one team stadium will say it doesn’t stack up and it will be scrapped.

I highly doubt SCG gets any money either. I have a strong suspicion their will be no money for stadiums in the new government first term.

You honestly think govs wouldnt pay for it? Such a lack of faith in our game as a product..

Victoria has said they would, qld is basically a certainty to bid, and just like origin games why would WA ans SA not as well? A GF is just as big a draw card. Id be surprised if we didnt see bids from auckland , actually tbh im surprised Origin hasnt gone there

NSW probably gets the least financially out of hosting as pure odds are its a Sydney team/s playing, so less tourism $$$, but you'd hope would still bid to "bring the GF home" atleast every few years
Not sure that Victoria would ’bid’ a large amount, but we have pointed out that the NRL could make a lot more money from a one off GF here, due to the larger capacity of the MCG and our appetite for attending major sport events in mass numbers.

Doesnt sound good for Sydney stadiums. Does the NRl and its clubs have a plan B?

Speaking on the Today Show last week, Minns said the funds were set to be allocated to NSW schools and hospitals.
“I’d love to do that, but when you consider there’s $200 billion of debt in NSW and we’ve got urgent responsibilities for schools and hospitals, they’ve got to be our priority, that’s why we were elected on Saturday,” Minns said.
“My message to the people of NSW is that’s got to be the priority for the incoming government.”

Can we all agree that the SCG Trust f**ked everything?

Allianz was the last stadium that needed money spent, and it was the one that got done because the Eastern Suburbs wankers are the politically connected ones.

Now they have their hand out for cricket ground money.

Guess where is getting done next.

We could have had a national rectangular stadium in the middle of Sydney.

instead the Roosters got a gift they didn’t need or deserve.
yes - the SCG trust also got plenty of upgrades to the SCG before that (at least a couple of new stands)
we can also blame the AFL for the homebush f**k up keeping it an oval by paying about $2.50

Ah well, looks like the NRL need to put the GF out to tender. The goalposts have been shifted on numerous occasions by the NSW gov so they don't have a leg to stand on to stop them doing it now.

So what did PVL get in return for Sydney keeping last year’s GF? What was the deal?

They didn't have a leg to stand on the first time they backed out of the deal, but they have no fear of consequences because the NRL has proven that their threats are empty.

The NRL shouldn't have made the threat to move the GF if they never intended to follow through on it, but backing down on the threat after it was made is the worst thing they could possibly have done. It basically signalled to everybody that they're pushovers.

I hate to say it but as soon as ANZ redevelopment was pushed back to after the SFS I knew RL was going to get screwed. The original plan was for a brand new stadium at Homebush and the SFS should have been done to a capacity of 35K.

Oh well, as much as RL keeps growing it still has a ways to go in certain corridors of power.

If they had no fear of consequences they wouldn't have paid to host last years GF , they would have just called the NRL's bluff

they feared plenty............

How much tickets would be available to the Public?

TBF once the Gabba is rebuilt Sydney will have the worst cricket ground in the country. I can see why they'd want to push to upgrade it.

What happened to giving priority to hospitals and schools
'gender equal' wins every time lol. this funding was already given by last Govt.
Just tell Labor you need more female facilities and some gender neutral toilets and new stadiums will be supported lol
