The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

This little snippet was published by the Western Weekender yesterday (source: https://westernweekender.com.au/202...ew-karen-mckeown-pledges-to-listen-to-locals/) -

There’s no question one of the most challenging projects for McKeown moving forward will be the planned Penrith Stadium overhaul.

“I have to be briefed on the business case for the stadium as there was a heap of community consultation done, and the figures. I just worry that the cost of construction will blow out, but I will get all the information and sit down to have a very robust discussion with the Treasurer around such things,” she said.

“Others believe that Penrith has had an overabundance of infrastructure and buildings going on but it is because we are a growing city and I always argue back that it is because we need that in order to keep up, so I am going to be out there loud and proud as a voice for Penrith.”

I see the fumblers are still pushing the Feds to assist with the Stadium in Hobart

Mr Albanese... If they're getting 240 mill to go towards a stadium , then the ACT should get the same amount to
" assist "
in the building of a venue in Canberra , ya know ......The Capital of the Country !!

Not to forget that Canberra also has about double the population of Hobart and is growing much faster.

They'll say its a stadium for all Tasmanians ,
But regardless

Tasmanian population 2021 545,000
Hobart population 2021 220,000

Canberra population 2022 472,000
Canberra region population 2022 575,000

Maybe if the ACT Govt had a plan, was prepared to chip in $375m and actually asked for funding. Reckon that might help.

The Feds have requested the ACT govt submit a business plan for assistance to build the stadium , so I'd think they're certainly open to putting that sort of money into the project .
Its up to that fumbleball loving twat who runs the territory to find the rest. I'd love for the fed govt to make it public & confirm they will assist the ACT financially to build the stadium with that sort of funding available. That would put pressure on Barr to get off his ass & get serious about it.

you would hope that it would be a priority given that the region supports full time NRL, Super Rugby and W-Leagues teams and potentially an A-League team

Plus the option to host more representative matches in the rectangular codes

Plus a large indoor venue for concerts etc is sorely needed in Canberra ,
the number of artists avoiding Canberra because of no suitable venue out of the weather is a list as long as your arm.

The ACT is much more densely populated. That Tasmanian population is spread out over an area half the size of Victoria. If you applied the same standard to Canberra, you'd also be taking in Bateman's Bay, Bega, Yass, Wagga Wagga et al.

It would act the same as Penrith Stadium would to get big events to that area, For Southern NSW included.

That's not exactly what has happened.

Labour has said that the ACT government would need to submit a business plan when David Pocock has proposed federal funding for a stadium in Civic in exchange for his support in the senate, knowing full well that no such plan exists, that Pocock has no real power to influence the creation of such a business plan, and that the ACT government has no intentions of creating any concreate plans because they couldn't afford it without delaying the light rail, which they'll never do willingly.

In other words it's just a convenient way to get him to shut up about the subject, and not a genuine expression of interest in supporting such an infrastructure project in the ACT.

An upgraded stadium as part of a renewal of the AIS is the most realistic chance of Federal funding for a stadium in Canberra as things stand, but it'd be in the ACT electorate's, local sports team's, and other stakeholder's interest to avoid that outcome if at all possible.
