the only thing you can do with Accor is bring the ends in 30m so they've got a far better view than currently.

The sides are unsalvageable. The upper tier is horrendous to watch a game from, there is zero you can do about this other than knocking it down and starting again.

A roof for it is purely lipstick on a pig.

Gill was at his farewell whilst vlandys and abdo decided last minute not to go
V'Landys & Abdo can't blame them.Too many ponces in attendance . And listening to the verbal crap coming out of Shepherd's mouth aimed directly at the NRL , V'Landys would probably made verbal mincemeat of him.
Gil would be at the opening of an envelope and any polo event.

Greenberg stuffed this up for the nrl and vlandys came in too late

spending 800 million on homebush is of little benefit to the nrl

origins and grand finals sell out regardless and the 800 million wasn’t going to make a massive difference to the fan experience for club games

allianz build should never have been more than 500 million

that would’ve left around 1.2 billion to do proper commbank type grounds for all the clubs that need it

as always politics means the outcome isn’t the best one for anybody

the nrl is being asked to give away the grand final and none of the builds so far were for the sole benefit of the nrl

commbank was more due to the wanderers, allianz was built way too big for nrl games and now Penrith is being done on the cheap

Eh? Greenberg was in charge when the decisions to build commbank and allianz hapoened. Two wins for the game.

Since Vlandys came in its been a debacle and we still don’t know if there’s going to be any further stadium improvements in NSW.

instead of boycotting the farewell event he should have been there with his hand puppet getting in the ears of the decision makers in the room.

It's been a debacle, 1 new stadium built, 1 other funded to be built. Of course V'landys should have predicted the outcome of the nsw election and the possible ramifications of a change in government like you did.

This

Vlandys seems to talk a lot about wanting to talk to governments, but when it comes to ACTUALLY talking to them, nothing

Not sure how Venues NSW are going to sell putting a roof on at Homebush. Hopefully a change of leadership causes the idea to go away. The longer it goes without having any money spent on it, the better the chances are of a knockdown and rebuild.

If they really want to help the AFL they can put a roof on the Showgrounds. Can be Sydney's version of Marvel.

This idea that a roof on Accor would cost a 100 or 150 mill is absurd , it would cost a lot more then that . Its not even needed , the venue is 80% rain proof anyway & it will add very little to this very average venue ( in its present configuration )
I suspect there will be a strong push for it to happen though with the RWC in 2027, but
the push for it not to happen needs to be just as strong & those funds used to " actually " improve facilities or build new ones
I’d be satisfied if the RWC at least got the last pre-Covid Plan over the line (lower tier moved in, better roof coverage). Not perfect, but would at least be decent.

Sydney doesn’t need a fully roofed stadium. Wet weather games are part of the fun, I don’t want to see them disappear, especially if most of the crowd can stay dry.

as long as its not included as money spent for venues frequently used by NRL clubs in Sydney
thats just for the RWC , mainly to host the final ahead of Melb & Perth

it finally sees fumbleball off too making the venue unsuitable for them , so a good thing.

not when they're the only tenant , thats why it will never happen nor should it

that 500 mill on all the clubs that need venue updates
not just one
Give them $100-$200M max and tell them that’s what you get, do the best rebuild you can with it. You could do a mostly covered no frills 25K stadium for that.

That would be an ideal outcome.

So because Penrith is in an area where RL is so dominant that there is no a-league, or rugby union to be a tenant they should never get a new stadium?
Good way to treat the biggest RL nursery/development area in the world, and one of the fastest growing regions in NSW.

The state government doesn’t care about this ‘fact’. If they are going to spend hundreds of millions dollars they want multiple tenants. It’s simple as that.

They have to factor in what the whole state wants rather than what a few Penrith supporters may want.

Just because you don’t want to see that or don’t understand that, doesn’t change the priorities of the state government.
