The state government doesn’t care about this ‘fact’. If they are going to spend hundreds of millions dollars they want multiple tenants. It’s simple as that.

They have to factor in what the whole state wants rather than what a few Penrith supporters may want.

Just because you don’t want to see that or don’t understand that, doesn’t change the priorities of the state government.
Meanwhile in Tasmania an FOI release shows Gil dragged another $54 million dollars out of State Government coffers at a time when I have friends looking at tents across the street from their homes with families living in them. Parallel universe here by the looks of it.

Eh? Greenberg was in charge when the decisions to build commbank and allianz hapoened. Two wins for the game.

Since Vlandys came in its been a debacle and we still don’t know if there’s going to be any further stadium improvements in NSW.

instead of boycotting the farewell event he should have been there with his hand puppet getting in the ears of the decision makers in the room.
Fact: Commbank Stadium Parramattatatta: In Sept of 2015 the decision was made for a knockdown and rebuild of the entire stadium.Greenberg was not CEO of the NRL til March 2016 finishing April 2020.
Expressions of interest sent by the Govt were requested in June 2016.
Greenberg had little ATT influence on the build. Remember of course the Wanderers also would have had some input with their crowds then but not now.

As to Allianz stadium might I firstly remind you (whilst watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean), the old SFS designed by Phillip Cox (who was not into sport) but loved beautiful designs. The practical side for sport well ???
The old stadium had SFA cover, it had safety issues and access in case of major emergency eg terrorist incident was totally inadequate and the facilities particularly for women was ordinary. My daughter will testify to the fact and swore never to go back there.

Even the best seats in the middle of the playing area left you drenched when it p*ssed down .I can vouch for that with a top line seat at a SOO there and finishing up with a couple of mates drowned rats.
Ayres(the Sports' Minister ATT) stated it was borderline safe and was one who help push for replacement. Also the A League/soccer and Union wanted upgrades for their major events.
Also bear in mind Homebush was supposed to be redeveloped so the NRL would have the GF for 25 years there ,the Govt reneged.
To give Greenberg a pat on the back for this ,is to put it mildly ,what have you been smoking?
The farewell for Shepherd was basically an AFL get together ,and other sports invited as a matter of looking the part.
Shepherd had no issues bagging rugby league on stadium issues and V'landys and Abdo advised we have better things to do, possibly expand to Perth.

Jakarta's new stadium is pretty incredible. This is what Sydney needs, IMO. Roof, and good rake.

Brilliant stadium. We can only dream and it only cost them around $450m Aussie. It would cost us at least double or even triple for exactly the same thing.

The NRL is secretly planning a double-header spectacular to launch the 2024 season in Las Vegas alongside a boxing world title bout and a UFC event.

News Corp can reveal independent commission boss Peter V’landys and CEO Andrew Abdo will travel to America in two weeks to begin planning one of the biggest events in rugby league history.

They have already reached out to Channel 9, Fox Sports and Fox network in America to get the broadcasters on board for the ultimate sporting weekend.

The plan is for four Sydney clubs – still to be determined which ones – to travel to Las Vegas a week before the game to launch a publicity and marketing blitz like never before via American Fox.

In Australia it would be billed as the ultimate mates trip away for thousands of Aussie sporting fans.

The NRL would do a deal with travel companies to get a share of the profits.

The NRL is refusing to comment on the proposal until the clubs have been informed of the finer details. It is expected Manly, the Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm would be keen to be involved.

Manly owner Scott Penn loves the idea.

“That’s awesome – absolutely brilliant,” Penn said.

“We want to be part of it for sure.

“There’s 350 million Americans who love the gladiatorial nature of NFL.

“They’ll love the NRL as well. It’s going to be an entertainment showcase.”

Storm chair and majority owner Matt Tripp confirmed his club would put their hand

“We would be interested provided it worked for the club, the financial aspects of it stacked up and it didn’t affect the rest of our season,” Tripp said.

“Provided everything lined up, of course we would be interested. The game should be showcased on a big stage in the US and we would love to be part of it.

“I think it is a great idea, particularly if the NRL has a desire to drive revenue from American waging operators. You would be putting it front and centre over there, letting the country see it.

“If the American public sees it, they will bet on it.”

No doubt the South Sydney Rabbitohs would also be keen to be involved via their owner, Hollywood superstar Russell Crowe, who has previously spoken in regards to supporting such an event.

“We’re really keen to be part of it as part of a long-term strategy in the US,” said CEO Blake Solly last year.

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas is a 65,000-seat roofed venue and home to the Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL.

Officials will speak to No Limit Boxing chief Matt Rose and other promoters in America regarding a fight on the same weekend, that could possibly even involve Tim Tszyu.

Rose told The Daily Telegraph he loves the ideas.

“We are certainly open to having talks with the NRL,” he said.

“It sounds like a crazy weekend where Australia takes over Vegas. Who knows – maybe we can line up a Tim Tszyu fight at the same time.”

An approach will also be made to UFC boss Dana White about an event to coincide with the rugby league. No doubt it would include our own Alexander Volkanovski.

TV production and logistics costs won’t be a major issue because staff at Fox in America could be part of the broadcast team.

V’landys and Abdo will leave for America after Magic Round in Brisbane. V’landys has connections in America through Lachlan Murdoch and other Fox executives.

Recent attempts to play an NRL game in America have fallen over. This time the NRL is determined to make it happen.

Why only Sydney clubs? Wouldn’t it make more sense to include at least one QLD club, the Warriors and Melbourne or Canberra to project the image of a truly national competition akin to the NFL?

Nope.... (plus Melbourne already put their hand up)
Sydney teams can afford to take games away to the bush, and other random locations, where as other teams like cowboys wouldn't coz every Townsville game counts

Ideally the two games would be Sydney 'home' games considering there are over 100 games a year there.
Not quite sure americans would assume the game doesn't have teams all across Australia and teams with Sydney and Melbourne in the name would be more than enough.

So take two Sydney home games against interstate sides then- would make sense as those games generally draw a lower local attendance than Sydney derbies anyway.

I think Hawaii would be another place to look at taking a game too - it’s possibly the most likely place to be able to establish a foothold in the US due to its Polynesian connections.

Why would the yanks want to see Manly or Easts being they haven't been anywhere the best side of the past 3 years?

I don't think they would know the difference and it's not like the roosters have been bad.

Manly are being suggested because of their owners and their business connections in America if I remember correctly from the last time a game in the USA was planned.

Likewise the owner of the Storm Matt Tripp is big in the world of sports betting and one of the main drivers for a game in America is to capture the newly opened betting markets there and is being spearheaded by V'landys.

Plus now add in the Las Vegas junket and I'm sure there is a lot more will to get this game happening lol

100%. If you staged an NFL game in Sydney or Melbourne I doubt it’d really matter who was playing. NFL fans would turn up regardless just for the opportunity to see live NFL, and others would come out of curiosity.

Commbank was due to the wanderers pushing for a new ground

back then they were getting massive crowds

grenberg had nothing to do with it

grenberg should’ve argued against the rebuild of accor and also the excessive cost of allianz which doesn’t benefit the nrl one bit
