"Western Parkland City" is the biggest load of property developer PR I've ever heard.

Are they still building the metro from St Marys to the new airport or did the new government cancel it?

AFL fans make up numbers about what Queensland pays for Magic Round. They've made up the figure of $2 million per year.

Just the ticket: How deal to bring rugby league to Qld put Labor in box seat

The Palaszczuk Government will not disclose how much it paid to secure top rugby league games but has revealed the perks that came with it.

While there has been speculation of millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded incentives, for Queensland to host games that promised flow-on benefits for local economies, the government has refused to reveal how much it cost to bring more games to the state.

The Liberal National Party used a question on notice to ask how much it cost the government to get the first State of Origin game moved from Melbourne to Townsville this year.

The government, which had also rebuffed questions from journalists, answered that it was “commercial-in-confidence and amounts cannot be disclosed to protect the interests of the State and partners, and to ensure Queensland’s competitiveness with other state and international event and tourism destinations”.

in your opinion*

Optus has a higher capacity than Suncorp

lets see how the double header goes this year before making any crowd assumptions
whats the capacity got to do with it when it'll never be reached

150K tickets at an average of $100 each in Brisbane 15 mill
90K tickets at an average of $75 each in Perth about 7 mill , which the difference between what QLD & WA will pay

full stadiums V half empty

heartland v non heartland
its a no brainer

Media had it at $2.1mill for 2019/2020. Might have gone up a bit for 2022+ but I doubt its gone up to $10mill from $2.1mill!

Mister negative strikes again. No reliable sources? Then opts for the worst possible outcome for the game. Rugby league fan? I think not.

Labour gov has made it quite clear 800 mill isnt happening

couple mil maybe for some pigs lipstick and they'll still be shit venues

if the NRL could snag a part ownership or cheaper deal on rent for these stadiums then its a better deal but all it is now is convincing the state government to fix up its own assets then awarding them with the GF
they'll change their minds with the threat the states biggest annual sporting event might be held elsewhere

Its all about prestige & dick measuring with other cities & premiers

Whether its 10, 20 or 30 mil its new income for the NRL regardless, it'll sell out wherever it is, and cities with smaller capacities can be asked to compensate loss of ticket sales in their bids. Will help fix the image that the N in NRL stands for national not NSW.

Let the NSW gov fix its stadiums when it feels it needs to (with lobbying pressure of course) and not tie that in with the GF and the potential revenue raiser it could be if taken on the road super bowl style.

Best case scenario you'd try get the stadiums that need fixes fixed with good lobbying with the other rectangular codes and keep the GF rights completely separate and sold for actual cash, not half baked promises for stadiums in 1 city in a national competition
In addition to the extra money grand finals in afl states are a huge way to grow the code

imagine by fluke Melbourne got a grand final and the storm make it at the same time

that would be massive

a mix of Sydneysiders being lazy and the PT system and roads being shit

fix the latter with some decent urban planning and a central stadium in each of these 3 is more enticing

as for the former make it an event worth getting of a couch for and the mindset will slowly change
yea
that'll be done in 2070

til then
it is what it is

GF in Sydney for an extended period..
tidy little 20K seat suburban venues for those Sydney clubs whos fans won't travel an hour each way to a game

Hasn't Vlandy's made this threat before? they'll not pay up and call his bluff, best thing to do would be to sell it off this year and make NSW come back to the table from next

you make multiple 20k stadiums sound like no big deal
what do you suggest happens if the NSW gov sticks with its no more than 300mil?

end of the day it doesn't change the fact we should be able to lobby for stadium upgrades without offering up the GF for free

in the highly unlikely scenario they stick to their guns , they won't for long

one year of Sydneysiders watching their team playing a GF elsewhere will see the govt come to the party quick smart

& its not for free
the NRL saw the benefit to the game back in 2015 in better stadia in Sydney & nothing has changed

lol AFL fans speculating about things they simply do not know.

Don't make things up though.

Anyhow, I wonder how much money the SA Government is stumping for Origin? It was $8 million in 2020 for just one game.

Makes the $24 million to AFL for nine games in 2023 look shit.

It is never leaving Sydney. The corporates won't let it

The NSW government will beat any bid and that is the best outcome
