$50mill might fix up LO as an amateur sports venue, it won’t bring it anywhere close to nrl standard, or what should be nrl standard in 2023.
That's the thing , as it is its fine as an amateur sports field. If they want NRL standard they should go across town.

That’s old news. Since the the Swans have moved on and their team won’t actually be playing there - Old Showgrounds is getting redeveloped for them (and Easts women)
The club retain a cult following in Sydney’s inner-west, despite the rapid gentrification of the area into Sydney’s Australian rules heartland – their historic Henson Park home ground is shared with local Australian rules teams and set to become the full-time home of the Sydney Swans AFLW team after a $9.3 million upgrade funded by state, federal and local governments.

Plastic grass pitch? I'm pretty certain it's going to be natural grass, they want to play cricket there.

And the individual seat screens with each seat being heated seems like a stretch - maybe in the members or for corporates?
Nothing would surprise me.

I think theres a fair bit of hyperbole in that letter.

The Raiders, and Brumbies for that matter, should aggressively reject any proposal to rebuild in Bruce or build a new stadium at EPIC. Both of them, the NRL, ARU, and the FFA/APL/new A-league side should all work together to propose viable alternatives in better locations then start advocating for them publicly.

Bruce sucks, EPIC would be even worse in most regards, and any proposal to build an entertainment precinct around the new stadium will never come to fruition. The stadium still won't actually be built for a long time unless the Federal government comes to the party, but now is the last chance to start playing hard ball. We need to force the government to make compromises for us, not acquiesce to all their demands just to get a new stadium as quickly as possible.

Mark my words, once the new rectangular stadium is built talk will move to an oval, and suddenly building in a better location won't be an issue anymore. That's if the new stadium isn't a oval in the first place, they were talking about the benefits of a "multipurpose" at the senate inquiry after all. . .

EPIC .... F me dead , would be horrendous , if you think Bruce is in the middle of nowhere
Bruce ... Certainly not perfect , but a new venue here would be way more preferable to the above
It needs to be an indoor venue out of the weather or we will continue to have many of the same issues as we do now , & as Ive said before regarding a " multipurpose " wank
We didn't have enough money to build any venue , let alone enclose a rectangle ..... to .. magically .. find enough funds ( probably close to double) to enclose an oval
would expose this drop kick chief minister for the utter clown he is ...

Permanently roofed rectangle at Bruce is probably the most realistic option. Should aim for something like Forsyth Barr stadium in Dunedin. 30k capacity, permanent roof and cost NZ $200M a decade ago.

TBF, they didn't discuss whether or not the oval would have a roof and Barr wasn't the one that brought it up.

EPIC has much better public transport links than Bruce, and they're both about as in the middle of nowhere as each other if we're being honest. At least there'd be a McDonald's within walking distance of the stadium if you built it at EPIC lol. The truth is that neither should be considered at all.

Yea agreed,
Canberrans have been attending sport in the precinct for 33 years ...
now we need to make sure this new venue is not built on the present stadium site which would mean a relocation of the Raiders to Manuka for 2 years , which would be disastrous

Theres plenty of vacant area not far from the existing stadium where the carpark is on the eastern side behind the Gregan Larkham Stand.

There're plenty of other realistic options, it's just that the government doesn't want those explored for political reasons and the people advocating for the stadium are incompetent. They've wasted the better part of a decade flogging the dead horse that is Civic instead of coming up with, and advocating for, alternatives.

Woden would have been perfect, but they left it so long that all the space there has being developed over as well, and now they're doing the same in the other town centres. You could build the stadium in any of Belco (probably no room there now either TBF), Gungahlin, or Tuggeranong, and it'd be a significantly better outcome than either Bruce or EPIC, and that's without even considering other parts of the city where you could fit a stadium.

BTW, one of the major reasons you'd build a roof is too attract arena shows and larger concerts, and both of those need to be able to control the light in the venue, building a clear roof completely defeats the purpose of that. Canberra can also get up to and over 40°C during summer, which would make using a stadium with a clear roof very uncomfortable to say the least.
