I think Olympic Park should've been abandoned alltogether.

I would've sold Accor to developers, made the NewSFS 65,000 seats, built another Bankwest Stadium at Blackown International Sportspark and increased the capacity of the oval ground at Blacktown to 20,000 for the Giants and Thunder.

Blacktown ISP is on the junction of the M4 and M7 and has a heavy high-capacity rail line running right by it. It was the ideal spot to have an outer-western sports hub.

Firstly selling Olympic Park would have been suicidal. Billions spent on doing the precinct up for the Olympics and then selling it a year later? Not even the NSW Coalition had an appetite for that. You seem to forget money spent on the other areas there (e.g. Qudos Banmk Arena) let alone the money spent on building the railway station and the work on the tracks too. That station was specifically designed to handle mass people movement from events in that precinct.

As to ISP, it's not even in Blacktown. The nearest railway station to it is Rooty Hill, which is not a major station by any stretch of the imagination on the western suburbs line. Additionally is two stations past Blacktown on that rail line. It's only relative grace is the 18 minute walk to it from said station, but that station is not set up for nor capable of handling big crowds at it.

I know as I live out that way and also used to commute out to Mt Druitt and St Marys via train to visit an Aunt who used to live at Lethbridge Park. Once you get west of Blacktown, there is only 1 line rail line running westward from Blacktown and one line running eastward all the way from Emu Plains. Further some stations out west of Blacktown only have literally 2 platforms, 1 for each line (e.g. Leppington).

Certainly feels like that this year, but travelling around the country a lot gives you fresh perspective on what is working in different cities and what isn’t, as opposed to you sat in your mums spare bedroom trolling RL discussion sites.

It isn’t Penrith’s fault there is only one tenant! Penrith is the heartland of NRL in NSW, but is being penalised for it!
If it is built correctly it could be used for a lot of events such as concerts, festivals etc that the people in the area currently have to travel to Sydney for.
The current stadium is running at around 90% capacity (18.3k) which is higher than any other stadium in the NRL, and the prevailing view is that new, bigger stadiums attract bigger crowds. This would mean that a minimum 25 - 30k stadium is required (and warranted).

If it is built correctly it could be used for a lot of events such as concerts, festivals etc that the people in the area currently have to travel to Sydney for.

No concert promoter will ever play Penrith stadium over the SFS, Bankwest or Accor

Logistics are a huge cost for concerts and if they play one of those venues they're not paying to take the stage 20 to 50 km down the road.

They'll just play a second show at the original venue since the stage has already been set.

Wests Tigers do act more as an inner west club. And when you look at the history of Wests in particular, it is no surprise.

Before the Magpies moved to Campbelltown in '87, their old home grounds were St.Lukes Park at Concord, Pratten Park at Ashfield (where they played most of their games in their history) and Lidcombe Oval. Not far from Pratten Park is Ashfield Leagues, and just 4 kms away is Leichhardt Oval. While COE is at Concord Oval.

St. Lukes Park at Concord and Lidcombe Oval are practically next door to the Olympic precinct. Ashfield and Leichhardt are not far behind. In historic terms, a merger between Balmain and Wests was very logical because they are next door neighbours. But what has complicated the merger is Campbelltown in the south west corridor, which is 44 to 46 kms away from Ashfield and Leichhardt.

If Campbelltown wasn't in the equation, fair to say that Accor stadium might have been the Wests Tigers main home ground.

RA & SA / professional soccer leagues , need to chime in now too with their gripes about the potential missed opportunities

The " rectangle " sports in this city deserve better & our 1980's facilities for these sports are as redundant as they have ever been

Thats just tough then isn't it & its no more the heartland of the NRL in NSW then Newcastle , their crowds would go from 20K to 30K with stands replacing hills at either end , but thats not going to happen & they don't feel they're being penalised.

Yeah I saw that but they still have all the other usage.

Still is a fair drive from Camden across to there, removing that cap buys them some time but within 10 years they will be looking to move stuff out west

They won't be moving it to Penrith I very much doubt. Regardless of the new airport, it is hardly the geographical or population centre of Sydney. If they "go west" it'll be to Accor or BankWest.
