Does Sydney need two large rectangular stadiums? Maybe as Melbourne has two large ovals they think they do? Have they offered any justification for doing both on this scale and expense?

Yes I did.

My question was......Was it EVER $3 Billion?
This sounds like more politics being played out in the media.
Just like Allianz is now a f**king safety hazard and dangerous to patrons.

This is what shits me.
There's no way this shit would be played out in Victoria. They would do anything to protect their native sport.
Meanwhile, here in NSW, we have political, media and sporting influences all begging for the $$$$$.
It's f**ked, and our politicians need to stand up for what's best for this state. It's OUR money they're spending on OUR sporting infrastructure.
f**k the AFL and f**k the SCG trust.

Politics are always played out in the media. I can't say if it was ever $3bn, but is clear the government was looking at spending a lot more than the $1.6bn. It's quite obvious that sometime in the last week something changed in this area for the government. The premier is quoted as saying last week that we will spend whatever we need to. To this week she has gone back to the original spend. That is why Greenburg was so surprised by the meeting last night.

How many Sydney crowds over 20k have there been this season? I can only think of Parra v Wests early on. Surely only one major stadium is needed? Choose one and make it awesome.

6 so far this year, 8 last year, 11 in 2015 and 15 in 2014.

Shows how much I'll feeling there has been in Sydney this year and has been been coming for the a few years.

The more I think about this the more I think the NRL is barking up the wrong tree by insisting the lions share goes to ANZ.

Rugby League needs 1 70k stadium in the city. Why are we fussed whether it is in Homebush or the CBD? If the NRL agreed with the government for the SFS to be upgraded, with a 70k capacity, and got Homebush refurbed or rebuilt smaller, it would likely be a done deal by now.

A lot of issue about why the NRL would be backing ANZ over any re-developed stadium under the SCG Trust's control stems to the number of seats they would have available to sell to the general public direct. Whilst the SFS has around 45,000 seat capacity, only a maximum of 28,000 seats are available to be sold by anyone who hires the ground. The remaining seats are for use by the trust members, with the trust paying $0 to the hirer for those seats. Any money paid by the trust members is kept by the trust themselves.

As such a 70k seat stadium in place of the SFS will more than likely leave you with a similar situation, if not worse.

Such things can be renegotiated. The Trust want it upgraded, they have to come to the party with better rental agreements.

Sorry for my naivety, but aside from the location and the fact that it is often empty, what is actually wrong with ANZ? My first game there will be this year's GF, so interested to see how it can be improved. Is it only soulless because there are so many empty seats? Does it work well for GF, SOO? Or is there something intrinsically wrong with it?

SFS cannot handle a massive stadium, not with the infrastructure as it stands. The only people who would want that are roosters fans.

Nonsense on both points.
They've just built a fancy new light rail line from Central that is meant to improve capacity, and the best part is it is walking distance from Central anyway and the CBD for the more energetic types, even if the public transport is full.

And how would a new stadium benefit Roosters? It wouldn't - it would put us out of a home for 2-3 years. We know we aren't going to fill a larger stadium week to week any more than we do now.

A large stadium at Moore Park would be a win for Sydney.

Seats are too far away from the field - here's what was proposed:

You are ignoring the real politik The money for the upgrade is not coming from the sports but the NSW Government. The members on the SCG Trust, which is a Government entity, are political heavy hitters in the corporate world and the Liberal Party - which is why the NSW Minister for Sport seems to be bending over backwards to accommodate them and been working against the ANZ Stadium upgrade since it was announced.

Hence the sports have little to force any "renegotiations" by the Trust on the matter, and the NSW Government will back them on that point. Why do you think Souths moved out to ANZ in the first place? Cause they thought they were getting crappy deal compared to the Roosters for hiring the SFS.

Ask Danish his opinion on the eastern suburbs light rail. He'll agree with me it will do little in "improving capacity" to the area at all.

If I had my way I'd make the SFS Sydney's premium big stadium. 70k capacity best Rugby stadium on Earth. NOT because of the Roosters, I know we wouldn't f**kin fill it, but because it would bring big events back to the CBD where they belong and save us and the poor sods who waste their time flying in from trekking out to Deadsville on a Wednesday night.

Rebuild Olympic as a nice 50k ground and for the love of god try and get some life into the wasteland that is Olympic Park.

Clover hates sport and she doesnt even fly RL banners during GF week anymore

Because two weeks ago at ANZ all preliminary games got canceled when they play 4 games on the venue in a weekend

NSW premier has already backflipped on last weeks statement that they would spend what was needed and has told Greenberg they won't spend more then $900m on ANZ, meaning that the upper tier won't move. Seriously, this is embarrassing and it's changed repeatedly over the last 3 years, who would invest in NSW with any degree of certainty on government policy. She's afraid to sack the trust's lapdog Ayres. Watch NSW screw this up. Pathetic.

If Thats all Greenbug can get he should resign or get the boot

This should voit any deal the ARLC made on the GFs/major events in sydney.

Not hard to manage. Even if four teams played all their home games at one stadium, there need only be two games per week. In Melbourne they cut the preliminary games 20 years ago. Play them elsewhere.
