Belmore Oval is in similar circumstances to Anfield in terms of being landlocked by housing preventing any outward expansion. It also though has the added complication of having the railway line on its northern fence too.
What actually do they use the end at the railway line for now ? there used to be seating behind the in goal but that looks like it was taken out quite a few years ago, it just looks like sheds behind there now. I had sat behind the in goal there for a few games at Belmore over the years.

yes - I remember it used to have covered seating there back in the 80s when it was used for Parra home games
Think it had a bulldog statue on top

looks like it might have been demolished for improved pedestrian access in the area

This came up in another thread the other day, they might have to reconsider/adapt their CoE plans at Belmore if they plan on it getting upgraded.

https://www.bulldogs.com.au/news/2023/04/06/field-of-dreams-for-everybody/

Basically they’re building their CoE on the Eastern side which most likely stops a decent stand ever being built there and would reduce hill capacity.
Hopefully they speak to Manly & find out how they managed to use their COE to get a new stand.

The other consideration would be if the Council doesn't want investment in it as a Stadium and want it to be a park/training ground.

Meh would love to see more sporting events get turned down like that. Sick of seeing billions get spend to supposedly produce a few thousand temporary jobs (like no shit spending 7+ billion dollars should create a few jobs).

I understand that some of these events can be important to have but far too often cities/countries/states pay top dollar for sporting events on the promise it will create jobs and tourism when often times the numbers are SUPER exagerated.

Its very iffy ROI accounting lol. Most of the people spending the money are local and would have spent it anyway on something else. There's not many sports events that get large numbers of tourists travelling in the numbers needed to justify spending lots of money. Why the C'wealth games would cost $7bill to host is a good question to be asking!

If Optus can be used for athletics I wouldnt be surprised if WA has a crack at it. Might get us a new rectabgular stadium!

Rectangle venues weren't getting anything anyway

will be interested to see if there is any concerns for the Brisb Olympics which is a far bigger spend of tax payers $
I think QLD is going full steam ahead with it. The amount of large building and infrastructure projects going on in Brisbane at the moment is insane. The CBD is going to be something else in 10 years... the state could be buried in debt though

Commonwealth Games is such an outmoded thing anyway, who really cares these days? Let developing countries who want to show off their big boy credentials host if the want to, or just hold it in the UK every 4 years and save the expense of trotting the Royals around the globe.

At least people still get excited about the olympics.

think plenty are turning them down before bidding
bidding and then turning it down is a bit dodge

If only QLD had the decency to do the same with the olympics, the gabba has already balooned from 1 billion to 2.7B, Ludicrous!
