I think the difference with AFL is that they seem to have attracted some interest from the recent African arrivals, particularly the Sudanese community. Being East Africans (tall, thin and fast) they’re particularly suited to AFL though no doubt they’d make great outside backs in the rugby codes.
Thats the point, different body types/athelte types suit different sports. Maoris and PI's are particularly suited to a strength and size game like RL, and thinner aerobic European and some African nations types are better suited to a running game like AFL or soccer. Its not surprising odes end up with different nations represented in their top tier

Ive got pitches near me and often see really big kids playing Jnr AFL and really struggling, I just want to walk up to their parents and tell them to take their kids to North Beach or Joondalup RL clubs!

Yeah it’s no coincidence that the few PIs you find in AFL are mostly Fijians who as we know are often tall and quick.

Not really according to the wiki on Sudanese Australians which has stats sourced from 2021 ABS data:

Regions with significant populations of Sudanese Australians:

South Sudanese:

Victoria2,750 (by birth, 2016 census)
Queensland1,430 (by birth, 2016 census)
Western Australia1,201 (by birth, 2016 census)
New South Wales977 (by birth, 2016 census)

There are more South Sudanese in Vic than NSW, but when you add the two groups together the difference definitely doesn’t reflect the difference in football representation

So there are bugger all Sudanese Australians in Australia? I’m glad we’ve sorted that out.

So flicked on the Matildas friendly last night that was played at Marvel and despite there being a sell out crowd they didn't configure it in rectangular mode. Is there a count of how many times they have reconfigured it since they took it over?

Seriously we need to push the federal government for funding to turn the Accor site into the national rectangular stadium and tell AFL and cricket where to go.

Pretty sure even when the Storm played home games there they had to put up with oval config because the fumblers moaned about it messing up the turf.
we 100% should get Accor redone as a rectangle.

There isn't many of African descent in the NRL but off the top of my head I can think of 3. Okunbur(Dogs), Mbye(Dragons),and Saab(Manly) all in the top 30 of their respective clubs. There could be more in the lower grades, I dont know.
There isn't "none" though.

This years leading try scorer.

The Victorian Government would no doubt give funding to the AFL. As part of any future deal we do with the Victorian Government on State of Origin there should be a condition in the contract that allows us to use Marvel in rectangular mode if we book the ground - force the Victorian Government to go and negotiate with the AFL for us.
