If they want to stay in the EPL they will have to build somewhere better, they know that.
Regardless you put up the 2 sht stadiums in the EPL as some sort of justification for Belmore when in reality they arent fit for purpose and the clubs know it. Just like Belmore isnt fit for purpose as an nrl stadium, and unless a massive rebuild is proposed never will be, and the Bulldogs know it.

The Cherries been in the PL more often than not recently with that dogshit stadium.

There go hopes of any of that funding leading to stadium improvements in Victoria -

Really poor form from from Dan Andrews. Regional games was a rubbish idea and presented too many challenges with new venues and accomodation.

The Ballarat stadium upgrade is proceeding anyway. Melbourne is sorted for stadia with AAMI good for the next 30 years, and the Marvel and Geelong upgrades both nearly finished, The MCG can afford to fund its own redevelopment like it did last time with minor contributions from the AFL and state government. They will borrow $1B.

They've also lurched from financial crisis to financial crisis and not sustained EPL survival. They cant be a sustainable EPL (arguably championship) club with that stadium and they know it. To use it as an example of why why Belmore is ok for NRL is laughable.

They're a regular fixture in the premier league mate lol. Talk about crisis all you like they're hardly Pompey.

Clubs with far larger fanbases and modern stadiums aren't in the PL and haven't been for ages.

Oh and look at Brentford. 17k seats!

That's three clubs in a country of 55 million in the world's most popular sporting league with shitty grounds!

Phase one with a predicted 4000 to follow giving a 23,500 new stadium, with 1/3rd of it safe standing lol

but hey if whats being suggested for Belmore is a 23500 stadium that looks like this with 16000 covered seats on 4 sides, then great, good luck to them on getting it funded! Itd be a great permenant home for the Bulldogs. But Id suggest that isnt what will ever happen at Belmore!

who seriously suggested bulldogs play full time from Belmore?
A few games a year there with most at Homebush would be fine - Homebush being a proper rectangular field would be even better

Even elland rd is a dump

anfueld is a dump with a large capacity

Old Trafford comes to mind.

In dire need of modernisation.

But that's neither here nor there. What old mate here focuses on is capacity.

Horses for courses.

I think realistically the Dogs should probably play bigger games at larger venue (and I'm even warming to Manly playing games at the SFS if the Northern Beaches Tunnel gets built) but traditional venues are a wonderful selling point for this game and playing lower drawing fixtures at these venues makes for a superb TV product. Belmore was awesome on the TV this weekend for instance. Seeing Redcliffe play at their spiritual home a few times a year is wonderful. Leichardt is iconic, and we should have a few games there a year, but not all of them, especially for a club as big as the Tigers.

Its very iffy ROI accounting lol. Most of the people spending the money are local and would have spent it anyway on something else. There's not many sports events that get large numbers of tourists travelling in the numbers needed to justify spending lots of money. Why the C'wealth games would cost $7bill to host is a good question to be asking!

If Optus can be used for athletics I wouldnt be surprised if WA has a crack at it. Might get us a new rectabgular stadium!

Wouldn’t be surprised to see WA have a crack, if so hopefully finishing HBF or a new 30k stadium next to Optus is pushed through as part of the deal.

It helps as a trial for the Olympics (brisbane case in point)

plus it gives all of australia a chance to see our king live in person
You can hold trials for a fraction of the cost
I assume the second part is sarcasm cause it sure ain’t a reason to spend billions

Apparently Optus is designed to do athletics so the main stadium and indoor stadium (Perth Arena) are sorted. HBF upgrade would sort rectangular sports and it would only need to spend on swimming and cycling venues.
The biggest issue would be the housing. Not sure where they could build an athletes village anywhere near the main venues unless they built an apartment tower at Burswood? Last premier wasn't keen but after years of big surpluses and a new premier looking to make a splash you never know. Be great if we did.
