And both clubs know those stadiums arent EPL standard and have plans for them.

Considering Brisbane was the only bidder ( the IOC almost begged them to host actually )
, they could easily hold it at the 50K seat QEII stadium , with it tarted up for about 270 mill

there is no justification for spending the money they're talking about
none

Commonwealth Games is such an outmoded thing anyway, who really cares these days? Let developing countries who want to show off their big boy credentials host if the want to, or just hold it in the UK every 4 years and save the expense of trotting the Royals around the globe.

At least people still get excited about the olympics.
It helps as a trial for the Olympics (brisbane case in point)

plus it gives all of australia a chance to see our king live in person

Gabba could lose tests as it’s one of the few cricket stadia not getting done

assuming tasmania get theirs done surely gabba would be at risk

The gabba is a 36K capacity all seater that got an upgrade as recently as 2000 , its not losing tests to anyone

& it certainly doesn't need to be torn down & rebuilt for 2 billion plus $
thats utterly ridiculous

Theres an oval stadium arms race on since Perth was built and Adelaide and MCG were improved. Brisbane and Sydney have been left behind. This gives Brisbane the opportunity to catch up. SCG will end up being the worse oval in the country once Gabba is replaced and will no doubt be lobbying soon to be improved to catch up to the rest.

Comparing with the best cricket oval in Perth it does

I’m not a fan of it but once a few cricket grounds got done there’s more pressure on the rest

Presuming Hobart does happen then Id expect Canberra to be next for a new oval stadium. Thats then the whole countries oval stadium map set for the next 40-50 years.

Meanwhile we have Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Wollongong, Penrith, Manly, Cronulla, Campbelltown, Canberra and potentially Ipswich needing rectangular stadium replacements or upgrades before Australia's rectangular stadium footprint is completed.

Luton Town says they'll build a 19,500 capacity stadium with much of it being 'safe standing' mate.

Hardly the slam dunk you think it is lol.

Cherries a 20k stadium.

These are hardly mega venues brother.

Brisbane will ..never ..lose its annual test or shorter version matches either , the gabba the way it is not redone

talk that Perth will get 2 tests & Brisbane none is stupid

Canberra has had to wait 40 years to get a proper rectangle stadium & is still waiting

Cricket & the drops & giggles can wait that long too

think plenty are turning them down before bidding
bidding and then turning it down is a bit dodge
I agree that's probably not the way to do things, was talking more broadly. Money being funnelled into sports on the basis of tourism and creating jobs is for the most part a straight up rort.

Phase one with a predicted 4000 to follow giving a 23,500 new stadium, with 1/3rd of it safe standing lol

but hey if whats being suggested for Belmore is a 23500 stadium that looks like this with 16000 covered seats on 4 sides, then great, good luck to them on getting it funded! Itd be a great permenant home for the Bulldogs. But Id suggest that isnt what will ever happen at Belmore!

If they want to stay in the EPL they will have to build somewhere better, they know that.
Regardless you put up the 2 sht stadiums in the EPL as some sort of justification for Belmore when in reality they arent fit for purpose and the clubs know it. Just like Belmore isnt fit for purpose as an nrl stadium, and unless a massive rebuild is proposed never will be, and the Bulldogs know it.
