17k mate.

Look at that. A tiny ground! In the most popular sporting leaguenon the planet!
If Belmore looked like that then 17k wouldn't be so bad, as is its 17k and looks shthouse, and if it rains good luck getting 10k into it. They'd need to spend $250mill+ to get Belmore to Brentford standard, good luck with that!

These suburban Sydney grounds are not fit for NRL and should be consigned to the semi pro leagues where they belong.

If they want to stay in the EPL they will have to build somewhere better, they know that.
Regardless you put up the 2 sht stadiums in the EPL as some sort of justification for Belmore when in reality they arent fit for purpose and the clubs know it. Just like Belmore isnt fit for purpose as an nrl stadium, and unless a massive rebuild is proposed never will be, and the Bulldogs know it.
Luckily for Luton, they will be relegated by Christmas, and in League 1 by 2025, so they won't need to worry about an upgraded stadium.

Old Trafford comes to mind.

In dire need of modernisation.

But that's neither here nor there. What old mate here focuses on is capacity.

Horses for courses.

I think realistically the Dogs should probably play bigger games at larger venue (and I'm even warming to Manly playing games at the SFS if the Northern Beaches Tunnel gets built) but traditional venues are a wonderful selling point for this game and playing lower drawing fixtures at these venues makes for a superb TV product. Belmore was awesome on the TV this weekend for instance. Seeing Redcliffe play at their spiritual home a few times a year is wonderful. Leichardt is iconic, and we should have a few games there a year, but not all of them, especially for a club as big as the Tigers.

Yep you put 17k in Accor and it has no atmosphere.

I’ve always thought Wentworth Park to the west of Pyrmont would have been a great location for an 80k rectangular stadium. Trams in and out from the North, South, East and West.

Canterbury is looking towards a new 45,000 seat stadium in Liverpool as part of a big project. Article was written earlier this year.

Going for a rezonig through state govt

this would be massive if it gets approved as it would be. A privately owned facility

see Cronulla this is how it’s done

Sydney could still easily host the Commonwealth games

I think the athletes village is the only thing missing, and building one would be worthwhile for the housing crisis

Be interested to know what is causing the cost blow outs from 1-2 bil to 6-7 bil

Looks like something similar to what is happenning everywhere post covid

If the Comm games budget blew out to double the original cost ,
then theres nothing stopping the same thing happening to the Olympic games in Brisbane

while they certainly won't be cancelled, stripping back the plan is a real possibility with things like 2 billion plus for the rebuild of the gabba under huge scrutiny

And WA

Premier Roger Cook has ruled out WA swooping to the rescue of the Commonwealth Games, labelling the sporting event a “sugar hit” that was “ruinously expensive”.

You said qld could pull out of the Olympic Games and the Gabba not get done

did you forget ?
I said nothing of the sort

I said the gabba project could be altered &
nothing has changed with that possibility ...... we see a doubling or more of the budget for the olympics like the comm games has seen

watch for alterations starting with the gabba

What is now the tram lines and freight rail lines nearby would preclude such a big build on the site.
looking at the available space, if you knocked down the dog track you might be able to squeeze in a 30 - 40k stadium (around Parramatta or SFS size) - but would lose a lot of the open space

Maybe, but who would be going to build it? Sydney City Council have neither the finances nor the political inclination to (and they don't own the land), whilst the NSW Government would be unwilling to stump up the money for a new stadium which, relatively speaking, is not that far from the SCG and the SFS.
