You only have to see when the Storm took a couple of games to Marvel, they wouldn’t have got them crowds at that time at Aami.
Both of those crowds would have comfortably fit into AAMI Park.

Build it and they will come.
As evidenced by what? Plenty of spare seats at Commbank for all Eels home games this year, ditto for Roosters at Allianz.

Just because Sydney has a white elephant that only opens the top deck twice a year doesn't mean Melbourne needs one too.

What a positive attitude you bring to this forum. Do you do kids parties? Do they all walk out crying?

How many over 30K crowds do the Broncos get a season? But I bet if you stuck them in a 30K stadium their average would drop right down to well under 30K.

You need a large stadium to allow for the members that won't turn up and the many non members that will decide that week or a few days out or on the day to lob up. If you built a 50K stadium and only 31-35K turned up on most occasions just like the Broncos that is still a good outcome and better then then 20-25K that would if you played in a 30K stadium.

Build it and they will come.
well done, you've literally picked the only rectangular sports club in Australia that needs a 40k stadium. good cherry picking! Storms crowds are not 60% of of capacity due to capacity lol If that was a realistic theory we'd see massive club crowds at Allianz and Accor, but.....

is 50k some minimum requirement for FIFA men's world cup stadiums?
40k for FIFA, it may come in to consideration if they ever redevelop Newcastle or build a new stadium in Canberra but other than that it won’t mean much until Australia actually gets the World Cup.

Saying Melbourne should have a 50k rectangular stadium is low quality shit posting.

Meanwhile Sydney doesn’t even have a 50k rectangular stadium.

Let me introduce you to the Post Olympics configuration of Stadium Australia...
Haha yes that’s a fair point.

AAMI was built with growth of the Storm and A-League in mind. Let’s not forget the shite hole they played out of previously averaging 11k.

As far as priorities go for NRL “lobbying” a 40-50k stadium in Melbourne is a fair way down the list.

1. New Canberra.
2. Upgrade Mt Smart or New Auckland.
3. Upgrade Newcastle.
4. Upgrade Wollongong.
5. Rebuild Accor Rectangular (This one will take years of ground work and help from Union & Football).
6. Upgrade Campbelltown if Tigers decide to play more games there.
7. Upgrade Brookvale.

Not to mention Perth and PNG will need work if either or both get a team, Ipswich want a new stadium as well for their bid.

While a bunch of small minded twerps here argue we should be short changed for a stadium in Melbourne look what’s going on in Brisbane

Not nearly as ridiculous as suggesting Melbourne needs a 50k rectangular stadium. It would never, ever get used. Here is why:
- it would be way too big for Storm games that average 18k, or A League that averages 10k. Or Rebels games that average 8k. The atmosphere would be terrible, and it would be far les profitable for tenant clubs.
- for event games like SOO, Bledisloe, WC qualifiers, etc, they would still be played at the MCG, as 50k is too small. Do you really thing that the NRL would chose a 47k crowd over 87k For an Origin match? No, they will take the extra 40k and extra $4m+ every day of the week. Just like in Sydney the big events are at ACCOR, not SFS, which is only 40% bigger than AAMI.

More likely - if the MCC believe that Australia is a realistic chance to ever host a soccer WC, they will add moveable stands when they rebuild the MCG southern stand around 2030. Unlike every other stadium in Australia, the MCG generates enough revenue to pay for its own redevelopment. If there is an economic benefit from a rectangular mode (such as hosting the WC with 105k) they will do it. Southern Stand first, then the members in 2050.

In 2006 or 2007, then Victorian Premier Steve Bracks announced a $190 million, 20,000 seater stadium. However, at the time Victory were getting crowds in excess of 30,000 at Docklands.

So eventually Victory agreed to go to new rectangular ground with the capacity increase of 30,000, at a cost of $268 million, and it has the foundations in place to expand to 50,000.

But thanks to the bio frame roof, expanding the stadium is expensive. The thing is AAMI Park was supposed to be that 50k stadium in the future. Meanwhile the Storm is averaging over 18k. Just as well AAMI wasn't built at 20,000 initially, otherwise Storm's growth as a club would be fairly limited right now.

But what happens if down the track, the Storm's averaging close to 30k?

There was a whole lot of speculation at the end of the 2022 season that 2023 would be the last year Leichhardt Oval hosts NRL games, without a $50 million upgrade to the facilities.

It'll be interesting to see if this threat from the Tigers chairman + the Inner West mayor has any weight in 2024. And, in the event it does hold true, would the Tigers finally do God's work and clean up their stadia strategy and consolidate home games into less than the 3837474 venues they currently play out of?

Their plan was to ditch Commbank for 2024 and use Leichhardt & Campbelltown only for their Sydney games, whether that happens or not who knows. I somehow doubt Leichhardt will be condemned, but if it meant the Tigers finally landing on a majority home ground it could be a blessing in disguise.

Maybe they could, I dunno, lobby several governments at once and move Melbourne up your list by collaborating with the two other codes that would use the stadium?
