So much wrong with this.

point 1. Having a 2nd Centrally located Brisbane side makes zero sense.

Dolphins hit the North. The trade off is a game or 2 to keep fans and sponsors in that part happy.

Same would apply if an Ipswich/Western Corridor came in, You will get Brisbane people but also Toowoomba is closer.

That is why you expand. Only looking after central Brisbane is just a dots on the map exercise and makes zero sense
The team should play out of a centrally located stadium though, not some tinpot stadium in the boondocks, serviced by one train line.

You certainly don't create a team in Brisbane to appeal to the Toowoomba market FFS.

The inability of the out of touch geriatrics whom control this sport to take off their rose tinted glasses for a second and get over their nostalgia for the mid-late 20th century is what happened to the second Brisbane side playing full time out of Suncorp. The fact that the Dolphins refused to play all their games at Suncorp should have been enough to rule them out.

People aren't saying that the third Brisbane team should have to play out of Suncorp to compensate for the Dolphins.

What they're saying is that we know from our experiences in Sydney that having lots of little clubs playing out of single tenant venues spread across the disparate parts of the city is a really dumb way to organise a football league, and that it'd be insane to repeat those mistakes in Brisbane given that we now know that.

Besides, a third team in Brisbane shouldn't be based in Ipswich anyway. If it happens it should be centrally located on the south side of river because that's the region of the city closest to the pre-existing infrastructure and with the heaviest population density that isn't represented in the NRL. That's where the second side should have been located, and everybody with a functioning frontal lobe knows it.
9 clubs in Sydney is on no way comparable to 4 big clubs in SEQ spread far enough apart to have their own turf, fan base and if they choose stadium.

How dare the Dolphins want to play at their own stadium in front of some of the fans that have supported them for decades. Amd whilst I don't love the current capacity of Kayo, they have ever right to do it whilst Sydney clubs play in the bush in front of 10k fans.

Now is it a good idea commercially for any of them to do this? No, but it is something that makes our game unique and connects with clubs and players with their roots. Latrell at Tamworth last year is a great example.

The Dolphins playing at Kayo is further evidence that a new stadium is not needed.

It's also a shit idea, despite the spin

As well as being a miserable shit. You also can't read.

I said appeal to Brisbane AND the relevant area.

In Dolphins case. Brisbane and the North has resulted in 35k new members and an extra 200k through the Turnstile.

Brisbane and GC figures went up. So that is new fans, which is expansion done well

I'm talking about them playing at Dolphin stadium.

That's a poor decision. Which ever way you want to spin it

Unlike you Sydney jerkoffs, I supported the Dolphins inclusion from Day 1.

The Dolphins only play 8 games at Lang Park next year.

That's a f**k up

Well no they have technically 10 games at Suncorp.

You don't think them having a game in Perth grows the brand?

As for Kayo.

1 is a Thursday night - that same game drew 22k at Suncorp. Depending on what the costs are - That is better for them at a ground they own.

Sunday in Round 2. Suncorp has a concert on the Tuesday... That will be getting set up on Sunday

If we are only aiming for 20k for Bri2, then let's be honest, that's a fail.

3 games at a suburban shitbox is also a fail.

But more importantly Lang Park only has 9 extra games then 1988 to 2022, and Brisbane needs a new stadium??

It isn't the aim. It is a starting point though, Had they of made the finals that number would be higher

That is 200k extra fans that attended games that didn't in 2022.

As for the 'suburban shitbox' Comes back to the discussion about having no viable stadium for lesser games or when Suncorp is unavailable

No bigger suburban sht hole than the old dairy farmers

dolphins unlucky not to get 340 million for a stadium with one tenant

I just can't believe there is no rectangular upgrade from the Olympics.

Even making giving Sunshine coast another stand.

Kayo is hosting more QRL events. That would make Dolphins some cash on the side atleast

I don't know if it is possible but Suncorp needs to be refurbed and expanded capacity wise to at least 60K-62K. Factoring members and corporates would allow big games to get 55K "sell outs". Current capacity does not do justice to RL in QLD.
Completely agree. When it was re-built in the early 2000's it should have been 60k min. Broncos always average around 30-35k, Dolphins average at Suncorp is just over 30k. Those crowds look fine in a 60k stadium and still provide awesome atmosphere. Then you have the increased capacity for big derby games, State of Origins, big finals matches and any potential future GF's.
