Are you from Newy? You see they are having a Real NRL magic round at No 2. I am keen to see that. I would love RL to take over No2.
Nah

been to the ground twice the knights fans ripped our flag when we won on full time lol

did go to the opening of Suncorp when Joey put on a Masterclass to shut up 50k Brisbane fans

obviously had the knights gone to super league they would’ve been better for them financially even had that meant the arl lost the war

there was no reward for loyalty

that ground is in a top location real shame marathon was picked as it’s in Broadmeadow

Yet ever sell out today is only 18-19k
They say its a sell out, but often there are folk who dont turn up, weather permitting or late or switch plans, the grounds had the capacity, but for whatever reason recently some aren't filling it, aka shark park construction, brookvale new stands, kogarah and liechardt needing newer amenities, Belmore and Penrith seems to be the only ones that seem to get a good consistant crowd, although belmore only gets 1 or 2 games a season

I used to share this opinion but have decided Broadmeadow is the better location simply because of the train line and also the city is sort of moving west.
The no2 ground is near the interchange but it is a dead-end interchange and it takes 10 minutes or so for each train to unload and get back out of there so the next one can come in.
I think Broadmeadow itself will become a big restaurant/pub district over the next 15 years.

That rules out country games.

The Coffs and Sharks partnership is great for the game part time.

Bathurst too.

It all grows the game
Teams like the Sharks need to do that to grow a supporter base outside their traditional area too because they’re limited by geography in the shire. Makes perfect sense for them.

Most Sydney clubs aside from Penrith and Tigers are limited as far as space goes but most have footprints in other areas which grows the game. Helps them with player numbers

Tigers need to stop clinging onto the inner west, they’re hopelessly limited there and hemmed in by other clubs. If you look at the history of the comp it’s been a gradual consolidation of the teams in that area as Newtown, Western suburbs and plenty of teams in earlier years folded allowing the existing clubs to grow. They’ve got all the growth potential they need in Campbelltown and the Southern Highlands.

Hills lost capacity due to health and safety requirements
Yes the wide isles on hills with barriers are something new

But no ground improvements ever addressed these 2-3k reductions in capacity

Eg expand or reconfigure hills with a pathway

Though Ch9 comentary boxes on the hill also impacting capacity

That is the biggest waste particularly as the new people move around the Airport

I was of the belief when the Broncos and Giants joined in 1988, the original QRL proposal was for 2 Brisbane sides, one north and one South of the river.

Then the NSWRL overruled them and insisted a gold coast side... based in NSW in Tweed Heads.

I'd imagine if this was true and we went with two Brisbane sides, there'd be no SL war and GC would have expanded when they did ina natural timeline (i.e the same time as Titans)

The only way to get that capacity back is to build bigger stands where the hills were and that costs a lot of money.
Back in the day it really didn’t cost a lot to build a fairly high capacity ground, just put sizeable hills around it you were sorted. The record footy crowd for Henson Park is over 30,000 and the ground configuration would have been little different to now - just no way you’d allow anywhere near that number in there these days.

The QRL lost out to the Broncos in the team selection. Remember most Sydney people thought that Brisbane players weren't up to Sydney week to week footy.

I don't believe 2 teams were ever talked about, or that the NSWRL dictated anything.

The Gold Coast Tweed Heads Giants came about because of the Pokie Dens that were legal on the NSW side of the border.

We now say the same thing about Perth, (standards of week to week) and they aren't allowed pokie dens
