The only reason it's costing so much now is because they've been allowed to wither on the vine for years instead of being proactive and fixing them. The longer they wait the more it's going to cost. Or in ten years time when the new stadiums would have been 5 years old we will be having the same whingers complaining about stadiums that are 30 years old needing to be modernised. It's such an infuriatingly simple argument, "it's a waste of money, schools and hospitals need the money, not sports stadiums", like it's a trade off between the two? During the same period it takes to build these stadiums for 2bn, ten times that will be spent on schools & hospitals.

Its actually 100 times more spent on school and hospitals. It is literally 1% of the expected spend in health and education.

When was the last time Fitzsimmons actually attended a sporting event where he wasn't seated in the corporate box, alongside his wife and her multimillion annual salary? The argument that it's a waste of money that should instead be spent on "hospitals & schools" and "schools & hospitals" is an argument for not spending money on any infrastructure that isn't hospitals or schools. What happens in 10 years time, only 5 years give or take after the completion of the proposed stadiums, when instead of ANZ having had a rebuild is now nearly 30 years old and worse than ever?
