Would a one off SCG GF be a bad thing anyway?
The TV would still be good
If you go and your team wins I doubt you’ll be spewing about the view
If you go and your team loses you’ll be spewin no matter where it was played.
The NRL might rig it so it’s another Cinderella story.
2 famous old Sydney teams
Manly and parra
Bulldogs and dragons
Make it a retro round

That’s a good way of looking at it and when you really think about a lot of seats at ANZ have crap views, the only real problem with the Grand Final at the SCG is that it holds about 30,000 less than ANZ for the biggest game of the year.

You can buy a 75" stadium from Aldi for less than 2 grand, from 3 metres away in your own personal box you'll struggle to take it all in

Take a look around the globe.
Every city of note in the world except Sydney takes pride in its stadiums. What...we are smarter than all of them? We have been making dopey short sighted infrastructure decisions for 200 years.
They take pride in what happens in the stadiums. And for the most part they arent the ones paying for said stadiums.
Fact is, SFS doesnt need to be rebuilt. ANZ stadium should not have capacity reduced, infact the opposite should happen. The SCG has NO PLACE holding origin or a grand final.
But this plan was doing that. Its a shit plan.

Except its not a good deal.

No.
The TV is not good for the SCG games either.

Because Sydney siders for the most part have common sense unlike those other places and dont put stock in a stadium like its a dick measuring contest.
Plus Brookvale is a shithole and only manly fans like that place.
It's a great deal for the NRL, possibly too good a deal which is why it may not happen. I agree that the SFS doesn't need a rebuild but that was always going to be the outcome once they raised the terrorism angle. No government would say no to that and risk something happening and taken the fallout that would ensue.

Now the rubbish about this not being a good deal for the NRL, they will be receiving 3 new stadiums out of this deal, 2 of them state of the art, world class facilities and you expect them to say no to that offer because they will have to play 1 GF in a sub standard stadium. This is a great deal for the NRL, that is why there are so many people who are not football fans complaining about the spend. This is a deal that gives the NRL the opportunity to grow crowds for the next 15 years.

IMO on ANZ, as I mentioned yesterday, if you knocked down the ends and brought them in 30m to where they should have been placed AFTER the Olympics, this solution would probably pass the Pete Fitzsimmons ‘wont somebody think of the children’ brigade.

Make it a 2 tiered stand that meets up with the current eastern and western stands. Capacity might drop a few thou as a result but who cares, it will be a far cheaper result than a complete rebuild and you could possibly do one end at a time and still hold the GF’s in the venue and avoid the piece of shit SCG altogether.

This IMO is the only compromise the NRL should accept on ANZ. The Side stands are still somewhat serviceable witbout being outstanding and could still be utilized in their current state.

There are plenty of stadiums around the world built with public money, I'd think it would be the majority. A lot of NFL teams negotiate stadium deals with cities as part of their agreement to play in the city. I'd think this would be common place around the world.

The side stands are shit too, too shallow and too far away from the action.

Great spend a load of money and end up with a slightly less shit stadium that will give no benefit to anyone 90% of the time as those stands aren’t used.
ANZ is total shite it needs to be so much steeper in the sides than it currently is.

Back to this "its a good deal for NRL" bullshit once again.
Its not. Because of this deal, because of the SCG trust. The deal wont happen as the pushback is MASSIVE. Because shock horror, its a waste of money from a state government who has been throwing money at everything from the westcon to this.
This deal is only good for one organization, and thats the SCG trust. Which is why they tried the terrorism angle.
It wont be 1 Grand final. It will be 2. It will also be for multiple origins.
The rhetoric that you are spilling that its only from non football fans who care about the spend has been torn to shreds in multiple articles.
The deal was not too good to be true. It was a horrible deal for everyone. Especially with the undercurrent and rumour of the NSW government doing this so they wont have to upgrade suburban grounds and force NRL to move the Sydney clubs to ANZ/SFS. This is not a good deal and no matter how many times you say it to everyone. Having that many BIG games(cause lets not forget, Semis will have to be played there as well) played at the SCG is NOT a good deal, its an amateur hour deal. A better deal would even been that ANZ is rebuilt first, Finished. THEN SFS rebuilt. But no. That didnt happen. So its not a good deal at all for the NRL.

People who think its f**king stupid they are decreasing capacity which will make a need for a new stadium further down the line.

The majority of all rectangular stadiums were spent by private owners and teams with a percentage thrown in by local governments. The only ones that werent tended to be Olympic stadiums.
Unlike here where they expect the taxpayers to pay for it all.
But no, theyre just not football fans.

No shit, and I’ve said that it needs to be rebuilt but if its the ends re-done or nothing at all due to the Helen Lovejoys, then which of those 2 scenarios would you want?

Again, ANZ needs to be knocked down and re-built properly for rectangular sports but the way it’s going I can see the whole current plan going to utter shit.

I actually agree with you about the SFS, once the problems with the SFS were raised though they are impossible to deny that there is the potential for serious safety issues moving forward.

I would have loved to see ANZ done first but the government made the SFS being done a priority because of the safety issues, the NRL was never going to move them on this point.

There is no point just doing the ends, it will make no difference to the experience at the stadium.

The majority of people, especially those against the stadium rebuild think that the NRL got too good a deal, its really only you I see arguing that this is not a good deal for the NRL. If NSW back out of the deal that they signed with the NRL then they lose the GF, its that simple. The NRL then sells the GF to the the highest bidder and takes the GF on the road. This is a win for the NRL anyway, just not as big as 3 new stadiums but is a win for the NRL and NRL fans.

I actually thought the original plan (Allianz first then ANZ with th SCG GF/SOO utilisation ) was a pretty decent compromise for all parties involved. NSW keeps their #1sport and its main events for the entirety of the builds, the NRL finally gets top class modern facilities for its premiere Sydney venues and the immediate safety issues with Allianz get addressed first (wether you agree with them or not)

Enter Peter Fitzsimmons.

But whatevs at the end of the day for me, I live in Brisbane and enjoy going to a top class facility for the odd game and ditto on the GC when the Cowboys are in town. I will also thoroughly enjoy going home in 2 seasons to NQ for 3-4 home games a year in our awesome new digs in the city.

Sydneyites can wallow in their buckets of shit and lose the NRL GF. I might pay more for the GF game ticket but I wont have to pay for flights and accomodation when the QLD gov host it in Brisbane.

Because that is the stark reality the NSW gov are facing if they don’t pony up to their agreement with the NRL.

Sydney deserves the stadiums it's already got, if they were built properly in the first f**king place they wouldn't have to be changed regularly like dirty undies
