It's a great deal for the NRL, possibly too good a deal which is why it may not happen. I agree that the SFS doesn't need a rebuild but that was always going to be the outcome once they raised the terrorism angle. No government would say no to that and risk something happening and taken the fallout that would ensue.
Now the rubbish about this not being a good deal for the NRL, they will be receiving 3 new stadiums out of this deal, 2 of them state of the art, world class facilities and you expect them to say no to that offer because they will have to play 1 GF in a sub standard stadium. This is a great deal for the NRL, that is why there are so many people who are not football fans complaining about the spend. This is a deal that gives the NRL the opportunity to grow crowds for the next 15 years.
Back to this "its a good deal for
NRL" bullshit once again.
Its not. Because of this deal, because of the SCG trust. The deal wont happen as the pushback is
MASSIVE. Because shock horror, its a waste of money from a state government who has been throwing money at everything from the westcon to this.
This deal is only good for one organization, and thats the SCG trust. Which is why they tried the terrorism angle.
It wont be 1 Grand final. It will be 2. It will also be for multiple origins.
The rhetoric that you are spilling that its only from non football fans who care about the spend has been torn to shreds in multiple articles.
The deal was not too good to be true. It was a horrible deal for everyone. Especially with the undercurrent and rumour of the NSW government doing this so they wont have to upgrade suburban grounds and force NRL to move the Sydney clubs to ANZ/SFS. This is not a good deal and no matter how many times you say it to everyone. Having that many BIG games(cause lets not forget, Semis will have to be played there as well) played at the SCG is NOT a good deal, its an amateur hour deal. A better deal would even been that ANZ is rebuilt first, Finished. THEN SFS rebuilt. But no. That didnt happen. So its not a good deal at all for the NRL.
IMO on ANZ, as I mentioned yesterday, if you knocked down the ends and brought them in 30m to where they should have been placed AFTER the Olympics, this solution would probably pass the Pete Fitzsimmons ‘wont somebody think of the children’ brigade.
Make it a 2 tiered stand that meets up with the current eastern and western stands. Capacity might drop a few thou as a result but who cares, it will be a far cheaper result than a complete rebuild and you could possibly do one end at a time and still hold the GF’s in the venue and avoid the piece of shit SCG altogether.
This IMO is the only compromise the NRL should accept on ANZ. The Side stands are still somewhat serviceable witbout being outstanding and could still be utilized in their current state.
People who think its f**king stupid they are decreasing capacity which will make a need for a new stadium further down the line.
ANZ needs to be knocked down.
There are plenty of stadiums around the world built with public money, I'd think it would be the majority. A lot of NFL teams negotiate stadium deals with cities as part of their agreement to play in the city. I'd think this would be common place around the world.
The majority of all rectangular stadiums were spent by private owners and teams with a percentage thrown in by local governments. The only ones that werent tended to be Olympic stadiums.
Unlike here where they expect the taxpayers to pay for it all.
But no,
theyre just not football fans.
